LONG TERM EFFECT OF TRICHODERMA AND SILICON ON METHYL JASMONATE PRODUCTION IN LEAF OF POTTED GAPEVINES INOCULATED WITH PLASMOPARA VITICOLA
Downy mildew is a serious disease in organic viticulture as only copper is allowed for its control. Despite this already great difficulty the European Community, and is probably soon going to decrease the allowed quantity to 3 kg ha−1 year−1. Thus, an improvement in copper efficiency, for example enhancing plant response to the disease, is urgently needed. Two days after infection by Plasmopara viticola, resistants produce a peak of methyl-jasmonate higher than the sensitive grapevines. Jasmonate production could be triggered in plants applying Trichoderma or silicon. In this frame Trichoderma, silicon or their combination were tested on potted vines to evaluate the ability of treatments to induce, far from the time of application, plant response such as production of methyl-jasmonate and reduction of the leaf symptoms. The study was carried out analyzing the expression of 13-lipooxygenases LOXA and LOXO, the 9-LOX
and the coronatine insensitive protein 1 (COI1) as genes involved in the synthesis of the jasmonic acid and in the plant response to this hormone. The LOXO activation precede or is contemporary to methyl-jasmonate peak and is probably involved in its synthesis, while the activation of LOXA follows the peak, as a responsive gene. Trichoderma activate 9-LOX response while silicon activates the COI1. Since the two compounds activate different pathways, they may integrate each to other. The higher effect observed for the combination against artificial infection seems to confirm this
hypothesis
Real Time Shadow Mapping for Augmented Reality Photorealistic Rendering
In this paper, we present a solution for the photorealistic ambient light render of holograms into dynamic real scenes, in augmented reality applications. Based on Microsoft HoloLens, we achieved this result with an Image Base Lighting (IBL) approach. The real-time image capturing that has been designed is able to automatically locate and position directional lights providing the right illumination to the holograms. We also implemented a negative "shadow drawing" shader that contributes to the final photorealistic and immersive effect of holograms in real life. The main focus of this research was to achieve a superior photorealism through the combination of real-time lights placement and negative "shadow drawing" shader. The solution was evaluated in various Augmented Reality case studies, from classical ones (using Vuforia Toolkit) to innovative applications (using HoloLens)

Human leukemic K562 cells treated with cytosine arabinoside: enhancement of erythroid differentiation by retinoic acid and retinol
Human leukemia K562 cells can be induced to erythroid differentiation when treated with a variety of compounds, including hemin, cytosine arabinoside and 5-azacytidine. Following erythroid induction, K562 cells express at high level γ-globin and accumulate both Hb Portland and Hb Gower 1. In this paper we determined whether a combination treatment of K562 cells with suboptimal concentrations of cytosine arabinoside and retinoids lead to full expression of differentiated functions. Cell growth kinetics studies, intracellular detection of hemoglobin by benzidine staining and hemoglobin analysis by cellulose acetate were performed. The results obtained shows that (a) retinoic acid and retinol are not able to induce differentiaton of K562 cells and (b) cytosine arabinoside induces differentiation only when used at 100-300 nM concentrations. In addition, our data demonstrate that erythroid differentiation of K562 occurs when 40 μM of retinoic acid or retinol are added together with 75 nM cytosine arabinoside
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
