Vijaya Marie Church
Located in Khayriyatabad, originally, a small chapel, it was built by Fr. Malberti in 1905. The overall cost of construction of the chapel was Rs. 3,500. The present church was built under the then St. Joseph's Cathedral's Assistant Parish Priest, Fr. Xavier Roch, much later in 1954, when the seventh Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan laid the foundation. Said to be the first octagonal church in India, its main altar is in the center. Eighty feet in diameter, the church is crested by a 47 foot high octagonal dome that rises along the central altar. On either side in the front are two 40 foot high towers, also octagonal investing the church with an imposing look. Aza Khana-E-Zohra
It is an ashur khanah, literally “House of the tenth Muharram,” Shia shrine containing alam, copies of the flag carried by Imam Husain, maternal grandson of Prophet Muhammad. Named after the Nizam Osman Ali Khan’s mother Zahra Begum, (d. 1941) located in Darusshifa area on the south bank of Musi, Aazah Khana-i Zahra was designed and built under the direction of engineer-architect Zain Yar Jang (d. 1961). The Aazah Khanah is a large hall, for male mourners with a high, 45 feet ceiling without pillars. Women mourners are accommodated in the surrounding gallery, with carved, perforated screens in arches. Tomb of Osman Ali Khan & His Family
The last reigning Nizam, Osman Ali Khan died in February 1967. He lies buried in a small tomb built after his death in the cemetery of the Masjid-i Judi, built in 1937, very close to his King Kothi. It is not clear why he was not buried in the funerary vault of the Nizams in Mecca Masjid, nor is it clear if he willed so. The Nizam’s mother Zahra Begum (d. 1941), and his wife Azamunnisa, entitled Dulhan Pasha (d. 1955) are among others buried here. Toxicity studies of 1'-S-1'-acetoxychavicol acetate in rat model / Yasir Osman Ali Abdalla
Natural compounds are the main source of therapeutic molecules for various diseases in this era, and most of the current medicines are derived from plants, microorganisms or animals. Nevertheless, the safety profile of these natural compounds has to be confirmed prior to their medicinal use. 1'-S-1'-acetoxychavicol acetate (ACA), a type of phenylpropanoid extracted from Alpinia conchigera Griff., is one of the natural compounds being investigated for its potential therapeutic purposes. ACA was previously reported to reduce tumour volume in athymic mice at the effective dose of 1.56 mg/kg body weight intraperitoneally and induce apoptotic death of tumour cells through the activation of caspase 3, 9, and 8 in the mitochondrial and Fas-dependent pathways and inactivation of the NF-κB pathway. However, a detailed toxicological profile for ACA has not yet been investigated. Therefore, a toxicity analysis involving intravenous ACA treatments in Sprague-Dawley male/female rats for an acute study of 2, 4 and 6.66 mg/kg doses of body weight for 14 days was conducted. In addition, a sub-acute study with weekly injections of 0.66, 1.33 and 2.22 mg/kg was also performed for 28 days. In these toxicity studies, ACA treatment did not affect behaviour, food/water intake or body weight, and showed insignificant changes in haematology and biochemical parameters or rat mortality. Thus, the LD50 value for ACA is higher than 6.66 mg/kg regardless of the sex of rats. Though there were mild inflammation of the kidneys and lobular hepatitis in sub-acute studies, these were not associated with significant functional adverse effects when compared with control rats. The no-observed-adverse-effect level (NOAEL) for intravenous ACA treatment in 28-day sub-acute studies was 2.22 mg/kg body weight for both male and female rats. The findings show that intravenous ACA treatment at doses tested between 0.66 and 6.66 mg/kg body weight in both acute and sub-acute studies does not result in significant toxicity or death in rats. Public Gardens Mosque
Constructed began in 1924. Officially called Masjid-i Osmania, it is located just past the crenellated gate of the Bagh-i Aam or the Public Gardens. It is a reinforced cement concrete (RCC) construction, an innovation of the time. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Contrary to the traditional perception, the Indian princely states underwent tremendous change in the twentieth century. The end of their 'splendid isolation' since the end of the First World War, but also the bureaucratisation of the state administration and the rise of popular movements claiming to share the rulers' power brought about the transformation both of the political system as well as the political culture. The article traces this development as it is reflected in the Yadgar-e Silver Jubilee of Mir Osman Ali Khan, Nizam of Hyderabad in 1936. The volume draws on classical political legitimation, centred on the ontological status of the ruler, depicting him as the embodiment of reason, the spiritual guide of the world and the Khalif of Islam. But at the same time it transforms these traditional images to encompass the praise of his administrative achievements, thus opening the way for a bureaucratic legitimation of government
