Socio-Economic Implication of Ajabuere Rites in Owoland
The world as a whole is dynamic, society and people cannot remain static, changes occur from time to time. For the ancient philosopher Heraclitus, change is the only constant variable in the entire world. Thus he proposed that “you cannot step twice into the same river, for fresh waters are ever flowing in upon you” (Copleston, 1962). In accord with the above assertion, great changes have taken place in the world, especially in Africa, which have affected the African people socially, morally, politically, spiritually and educationally. For instance, the incursion of Christianity on the shores of Nigeria has forced some changes in our societies and people, such that some cultural practices have been thrown away because they were wrongly perceived as fetish, barbaric and uncivilised (Awolalu & Dopamu, 1979). These changes notwithstanding, some of our traditional practices have subsisted; they were able to surmount the threat posed by these foreign religions and practices, one of such practice is the Ajabuere dance which precedes burial ceremony in the ancient town of Owo. The Owo people, like other Yoruba people believe that death does not annihilate, that there is life after death, the Ajabuere dance is therefore perceived as an instrument that lure one into the bliss of after-life
AN ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPACT OF UK ARMS EXPORT IN ISRAEL-HAMAS CONFLICT AND THE COMPLICIT IN WAR CRIMES
This paper examines the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas that took place in Gaza and the conflict emerged from unprecedented destruction from the Hamas militant group in Palestine. Although the Hamas group portray themselves as freedom fighters, but western and developed countries have tagged it a terrorist group responsible for initiating the recent dispute in the Middle East, especially in the State of Israel. However, this paper analyses the United Kingdom’s possible involvement in the Israel-Hamas conflict and assesses how the country’s weaponry exports have affected the Israel-Hamas conflict. The paper therefore provided insights on arms exports by the British government and how this equipment has enabled acts that contravene international humanitarian law and how weapons such as drones, tanks and ammunitions have been utilized in military operations in Gaza. Furthermore, the paper shows the UK’s compliance with its duties to control arms exports and stop their use in war crimes and human right abuse. Using the military-industrial complex theory, the paper provides how the military and defense contractors benefit mutually from arms exportation and the aim is not to aid the nations in need of war tools to win the war rather what they stand to gain when arms are exported. In this study, secondary data was employed using textbook, published articles, newspapers and media outlet report. Drawing findings from the in-depth interview conducted, this paper revealed that the UK are not the major exporters or arms to Israel in its recent conflict with Palestine due to several factors which includes condemnation from the public and economic decline. This paper recommended that the UK should conduct a thorough risk assessment to ensure that arms exports to Israel will not be used to violate international humanitarian law and Israel and Palestine conflict could be addressed by border controls and international peacekeeping forces. This paper therefore concluded that the conflict is fueled by external factors including arms exportation and the UK must re-examine their arms export policies

Despite different response by the government to address the unrest in the oil rich Niger Delta, yet the insurgency persist. This has been attributed to a commandist and lack of proper consultation with people of the region. This study sought psychometric evidence to prove this assertion. Consequently, the leadership attributes of Lee Kuan Yew, the first and longest-serving Prime Minister of Singapore, and the impacts he made on Singapore’s development were explored. Some of the research questions addressed are: What are the valid indicators of development in Singapore at inception and thirty years after? What are the leadership factors that facilitated Singapore’s development? What are the cultural factors that facilitated Yew’s achievement? The concept of Development encompasses various theories in different disciplines and contexts - the Economic Development theory of development, the Human Development and Human Development Index (HDI), the Gross National Happiness (GNH) model, the Dependency theory, the Sustainable Development, and the Participatory Development theory. Likewise, the concept of Leadership encompasses various theories – The Contingency and Situational Leadership theory, and the Ethical leadership theory. The systematic review design was adopted by selecting and analyzing 10 relevant studies gotten from electronic databases, including EBSCO, Scopus, Web of Science, and Sage. Singapore indeed experienced remarkable development within a short space of 30 years, literally leapfrogging from squalor to attainment of GDP which surpassed that of United Kingdom; There were indeed many notable leadership qualities in Lee Yew that instigated the crafting of wise policies and strategies cum dogged implementation drives that led to the remarkable development of Singapore; Some cultural factors that facilitated Yew’s leadership efforts in achieving Singapore’s development were identified. The study provided ample evidences that, given the right conditions, which can always be created by a make-things-happen leader like Lee Yew, everything indeed rises and falls on leadership acumen. This study contributes to existing literature by conducting a systematic review on Lee Yaw’s leadership role in the development of Singapore
