Annual report (Arizona. Risk Management Section)
The Risk Management Division was established in 1976, and is tasked with the management and mitigation of liability, property, and workers’ compensation claims. The parameters of the program, includes coverage for agencies, employees, boards and commissions. The Risk Management Division provides consultations with state agency personnel to recommend programs and procedures aimed at reducing or eliminating risk. On an annual basis, Risk Management performs a comprehensive evaluation of its insurance program to determine the proper mix of

Factors Influencing Physical Risk Taking in Rock Climbing
This study was designed to investigate factors influencing physical risk taking in the sport of rock climbing. Specifically, the relationships between physical risk taking, sensation seeking, spheres of control, and desirability of control were examined. One hundred five rock climbers from the United States completed a series of surveys measuring each of the above-mentioned psychological variables. As predicted, physical risk taking demonstrated significant positive relationships to both total sensation seeking and thrill/adventure seeking (TAS). The expected relationships between physical risk taking, personal control and desirability of control were not supported. As hypothesized, no substantive patterns were revealed between physical risk taking and interpersonal control or sociopolitical control. Finally, comparisons between high and low physical risk taking rock climbers revealed significant group differences for total sensation seeking, TAS, and disinhibition. The identification of predictors of physical risk taking is a key step toward identifying individuals likely to engage in high physical risk behavior, and under what circumstances they are likely to do so
Assessing economic risk, safety standards, and decision-making
Risk-informed decision-making needs methods for assessing flood risk, and often the flooding probability and the consequences of floods (such as economic damage and fatalities) play an important role in the risk assessment. Also, measures to reduce the flood risk need to be formulated, in order to make a risk-informed decision, whether to accept the risk or to implement measures to reduce or to transfer the risk. These measures can be technical (for example, storm surge barriers) but can also be in the area of spatial planning or crises management. The outcome of such a process might be formalized in a “safety standards,” which can be used for the design of measures. These standards show remarkable differences between the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Hydraulic Structures and Flood Ris

Method of information and analytical support for information security risk management of information systems
It has been tried to combine expert and statistics methods in analyzing information security risk. Author has brought general statements of information security risk management based on international and internal practices as well as proposed own risk analyzing process. The proposed method includes topologies of information resources, vulnarabilities, threats, impact, bulding events’ tree. It has been proposed to build agrigated risk over the certain information resource. Author has tried to convert experts’ metrixes into fuzzy mathematical model. Conclusion of the experiments is that self-learning model gives better results but in the environment of uncertaince, both experts’ and statistics data can be used.Problems in programming 2018; 4: 82-9
Personality traits-based terrorism risk assessment: Determining reliability using open-source data
The chapter, "Personality traits-based terrorism risk assessment: Determining reliability using open-source data" was written by the listed authors including Logan Macnair (Douglas College Faculty). It is part of the "NATO Science for Peace and Security Series - E: Human and Societal Dynamics" series. Prominent terrorism case studies of individuals such as Omar Mateen, Dylann Roof, and Mohammed Merah indicate the need for personality trait-based terrorism risk assessment/threat assessment (TR/TA). This chapter provides an overview of Corrado’s, personality-based TR/TA instrument (see Chapter 14) by explaining the origin of each domain and the purpose of inclusion. Furthermore, this chapter displays results from a preliminary instrument validation study conducted on an open-source sample of 158 terrorists. Results of this study suggest strong statistical significance for many of the domains. This suggests the need for future inclusion of personality-based indicators in terrorism risk assessment. --From publisher description.Published
Flood risk reduction for Galveston Bay: Preliminary design of a coastal barrier system
Many coastal areas around the world are densely populated and at risk from flooding, but utilize different strategies to deal with coastal hazard. This chapter summarizes how Dutch concepts for coastal flood risk reduction have been explored for Galveston Bay. Firstly, it is shown how risk-based screening methods can help to evaluate various alternative strategies based on metrics such as costs, risk reduction and (societal and environmental) impacts. Application of this approach for Galveston Bay that a coastal spine alternative would entail a large investment, but it would provide the greatest risk reduction by maximizing the protected area. Secondly, a preliminary design for the coastal spine (also known as the Ike Dike) has been elaborated for protection of the region against storm surges, with involvement of Dutch and international students and experts. It includes storm surge barriers at Bolivar Roads and San Luis Pass, and several alternatives for the land barrier—including a fortified dune. Important aspects for future work are discussed, such as the cost estimation, in-bay measures, and the need for integral and proactive planning.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Hydraulic Structures and Flood Ris
