Le due vite del Colosso. Storia, arte, conservazione e restauro del bronzo di Barletta
No full textDal 2014 al 2016 è stato eseguito un intervento di manutenzione straordinaria sul colosso bronzeo di Barletta, unico bronzo tardoantico ancora ad essere esposto all’aperto. L’occasione del restauro e i risultati ottenuti hanno consentito di ritornare a discutere su vecchi e nuovi problemi che da sempre hanno caratterizzato l’esistenza dell’opera: la sua identità in relazione al contesto della statuaria antica e tardoantica, il leggendario trasferimento da Bisanzio a Venezia e le vicende relative alla sua risemantizzazione nel contesto della cittadina pugliese a partire dall’età medievale fino all’abbattimento del Sedile del popolo che faceva da sfondo alla statua. ‘Due vite’, appunto, le cui vicende non scorrono parallele ma si sovrappongono condizionandosi a vicenda, trasformando di fatto il Colosso in un ‘problema artistico insoluto’. Il volume affronta queste problematiche partendo dall’età tardoantica e discutendo sulla possibile identità del manufatto ( Bente Kiilerich, The Barletta Colossus and the problem of its identity), sul suo arrivo nella cittadina pugliese (Victor Rivera Magos, Il Colosso e la città angioina alle origini del legame tra la statua di Eraclio e la platea Sancti Sepulcri); del suo significato quale elemento dell’arredo urbano tra XIV e XV secolo (Sylvie Pollastri, Le Colosse de Barletta. L’image et sa construction civique des Angevins aux Aragona; Angelo Ambrosi, Una statua colossale nella città). Viene inoltre analizzata la storia del Colosso da un punto di vista storico-artistico (Luisa Derosa, La 'seconda vita' del Colosso: un percorso a ritroso. XIX-V secolo). La seconda parte del volume è relativa ai dati emersi nel recente restauro , mirato alla verifica dell’ innovativo sistema di messa in sicurezza della statua ottenuto realizzando un’armatura interna in acciaio (Doriana De Tommasi e Giambattista De Tommasi, I restauri del Colosso; Giambattista De Tommasi e Fabio Mastrofilippo, Scheda tecnica dei lavori di manutenzione e restauro eseguiti); alle indagini diagnostiche per la datazione del manufatto (Emanuela Sibilia e Francesco Maspero, Le analisi di termoluminescenza delle terre di fusione del Colosso); all’individuazione delle eventuali cause di alterazione e/o deterioramento del metallo (Maurizio Marabelli, Una campagna di indagini non distruttive finalizzata allo studio e alla conservazione del Colosso di Barletta) Il volume, grazie alla collaborazione con il Polo Museale della Puglia (Mibact), presenta una nuova campagna fotografica dell’opera dopo il restauro (Beppe Gernone). In appendice sono pubblicati una serie di documenti inediti (Archivio Centrale dello Stato di Roma) che intrecciati a fonti a stampa e resoconti giornalistici ricostruiscono la vicenda dell'abbattimento del Sedile del Popolo
Iohannis Scotti Eriugenae, De Imagine, Introduzione
No full textDe Imagine represents the Latin translation of Gregory of Nyssa's treatise on the creation of man (De opificio hominis), a text that had already attracted the attention of Dionysius Exiguus in the sixth century. Probably a juvenile work, it witnesses to Eriugena's interests for translating Greek texts and in this respect can be paralleled to major texts like the translation of Maximus the Confessor and of Dionysius the Areopagite. Moreover, large portions of the text were paraphrased or directly employed in the Periphyseon and, later on, were used by William of St Thierry in his De natura corporis et animae. This new critical edition is based on the collation of the two extant manuscripts, compared against the Greek text, and is accompanied by a source apparatus that also highlights the reprises in Periphyseon and the parallel passages in De natura corporis. The introduction outlines the contents of the work, situating De imagine in Eriugena's speculation, and offers a thorough reconstruction of the manuscript tradition, which also includes the thorny question of the Greek exemplar employed by Eriugena

The intentionality of matter: the personal character of nature in Edith Stein's "Potency and act"
No full textIn the closing chapter, Francesco Valerio Tommasi elaborates upon the analogy between person and nature in Stein. As he emphasizes, Stein attributes to nature an objectively spiritual dimension, a hidden form of intentionality. As the author suggests, for Stein nature turns out to be a living sign of the spirit—thus, a sign expressing spiritual values, such as emotions. This perspective is present in both the lectures on The Constitution of the Human Person and Potency and Act: the phenomenological reflection on personhood is combined, Tommasi argues, with a Thomist view that brings Stein to conceiving the life of the entire cosmos as a spirit (or act) informing it and shaping it into a living sign of the creation
