(Texto tomado de la fuente)It is especially important to optimize the integral management of the colonization of A. decurrens in the Floodable Operational Area (AOI) of the Tominé reservoir, since the extensive knowledge of the ecology and dynamics of the invasion of this species, allows to clearly determine the factors that affect its expansion, which, in turn, determine the spatial distribution of the event and provide the ability to model the natural phenomenon. in order to simulate it. Given this need for knowledge, the objective is to have an algorithm in Model Builder - ArcGIS that allows defining the areas that require priority intervention for the comprehensive management of A. decurrens within the AOI of the Tominé reservoir, according to the theoretical time of sexual maturity of the species after the random interventions carried out by the Environmental Management Plan between the years 2015 and 2022.EspecializaciónEspecialista en Análisis Espacia

Gravity Measurements in Panama with the IMGC-02 Transportable Absolute Gravimeter

    No full text
The work hereafter described was designed to determine the gravity datum at the Centro Nacional de Metrologìa de Panamà CENAMEP AIP through absolute measurement of the gravity acceleration, and settle a gravity network in Panama. Twelve gravity station points were settled. Gravity data were collected with the transportable absolute ballistic gravimeter IMGC-02, operated by a team of the Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica INRIM, in cooperation with the CENAMEP AIP and the Instituto Geográfico Nacional “Tommy Guardia” IGNTG. Establishment of the gravity net in Panama, with the highest accuracy currently obtainable, will help in the realization of primary standards and in the definition of the geodetic reference level. Moreover the gravity net may serve as reference for further detailed surveys and detection of long-term, time-dependent gravity variations

Bioethical tensions and feelings in the decision making of adequacy of therapeutic effort by surrogate resulting in a do-not-resuscitate order for hospitalized patients

Doctor en BioéticaDoctoradoThis is an original study in which a qualitative ethnographic design research was developed, which explores bioethical tensions and feelings in surrogates who make the decision to adequate the therapeutic effort that leads to the order of non-resuscitation for hospitalized patients, using as research tools focus groups, in-depth interviews, participant observation and documentary review. Bioethical conflicts and feelings were analyzed in a group of participants (family members, doctors, and nurses) who have acted as surrogates in this type of decision, and the findings were analyzed in the light of Ricardo Maliandi's convergent ethics (with emphasis on the logos-pathos conflict), Antonio Damásio's psychological perspective, and Freud's classical psychoanalytic theory. Results demonstrate the presence of important bioethical and emotional conflicts in surrogates, as well as the use of individual psychological defense mechanisms, when facing this type of decision

Systematic Review and Clinical Insights: The Role of the Ketogenic Diet in Managing Glioblastoma in Cancer Neuroscience

    No full text
Recent scientific research has shown that the ketogenic diet may have potential benefits in a variety of medical fields, which has led to the diet receiving a substantial amount of attention. Clinical and experimental research on brain tumors has shown that the ketogenic diet has a satisfactory safety profile. This safety profile has been established in a variety of applications, including the management of obesity and the treatment of drug-resistant epileptic cases. However, in human studies, the impact of ketogenic therapy on the growth of tumors and the life expectancy of patients has not provided results that are well characterized. Consequently, our purpose is to improve the comprehension of these features by succinctly presenting the developments and conclusions that have been gained from the most recent study that pertains to this non-pharmacological technique. According to the findings of our study, patients with brain tumors who stick to a ketogenic diet are more likely to experience improved survival rates. However, it is required to conduct additional research on humans in order to more accurately define the anti-tumor efficiency of this diet as well as the underlying processes that support the therapeutic effects of this dieting regimen

Topology-Independent Robust Stability Conditions for Uncertain MIMO Networks

    No full text
We give a sufficient and a necessary condition for the topology-independent robust stability of networked systems formed by uncertain MIMO systems. Both conditions involve constants associated with the nominal node dynamics and arc interconnection matrices, the uncertainty bounds, and the maximum connectivity degree of the network; they are scalable (they can be checked locally), independent of the network topology and even of the number of nodes and arcs, and hold for networks of heterogeneous MIMO systems and interconnection matrices, with heterogeneous uncertainties. The dual cases of 1-norm and ∞-norm bounds are considered. In both cases, if the systems at the nodes are diagonal, we get a necessary and sufficient condition. We apply our results to the topology-independent robust stability analysis of a case-study from cancer biology.Accepted Author ManuscriptTeam Tamas Keviczk

Optimal duration and planning of switching treatments taking drug toxicity into account: a convex optimisation approach

    No full text
We consider a multi-compartment evolutionary model representing growth, mutation and migration of cancer cells, as well as the effect of drugs, and we design optimal switching targeted cancer therapies where a single drug, or suitable drug combination, is given at each time so as to minimise not only the overall tumor size over a finite horizon, but also drug-provoked side effects. The strong diagonally- dominant structure of the model allows to solve the problem via convex optimisation. We provide an algorithm that yields optimality throughout the whole treatment duration by solving the convex optimisation problem with different horizons, and show how dwell time can be enforced via heuristics. Also the optimal treatment duration can be computed via convex optimisation. The proposed approaches are applied to a model of ALK-rearranged lung carcinoma.Accepted Author ManuscriptTeam Tamas Keviczk
