Writer Identification Using Microblogging Texts for Social Media Forensics

Establishing authorship of online texts is fundamental to combat cybercrimes. Unfortunately, text length is limited on some platforms, making the challenge harder. We aim at identifying the authorship of Twitter messages limited to 140 characters. We evaluate popular stylometric features, widely used in literary analysis, and specific Twitter features like URLs, hashtags, replies or quotes. We use two databases with 93 and 3957 authors, respectively. We test varying sized author sets and varying amounts of training/test texts per author. Performance is further improved by feature combination via automatic selection. With a large amount of training Tweets (>500), a good accuracy (Rank-5>80%) is achievable with only a few dozens of test Tweets, even with several thousands of authors. With smaller sample sizes (10-20 training Tweets), the search space can be diminished by 9-15% while keeping a high chance that the correct author is retrieved among the candidates. In such cases, automatic attribution can provide significant time savings to experts in suspect search. For completeness, we report verification results. With few training/test Tweets, the EER is above 20-25%, which is reduced to < 15% if hundreds of training Tweets are available. We also quantify the computational complexity and time permanence of the employed features. © 2019 IEEE.Funding: This work was supported in part by the project 2016-03497 of the Swedish Research Council. Homeless youth of Pakistan: Survival sex and HIV risk

No full text
While homeless young people (HYP) are typically perceived as irresponsible and morally suspect individuals who lack essential social skills to navigate their lives, this book offers an alternative and more positive perspective. It demonstrates that HYP improvise with resources available on the streets to improve their social and financial status, although they experience significant social structural constraints. This ground-breaking text provides an analysis of social processes that contribute to young people\u27s homelessness, their engagement in sex work, their establishment of intimate partnerships, and sexual practices which may increase their risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The book demonstrates how the ongoing social and financial instability and insecurity neutralises HYP\u27s knowledge of HIV/STIs, and how financial considerations, fear of violence by clients, and social obligations in intimate partnerships contribute to their sexual risk-taking. The author argues that the conventional approach of promoting health through raising awareness regarding HIV/STI prevention may continue to bring less than promising outcomes unless we focus on how structural and contextual conditions operate in the backdrop and produce conditions less conducive for young people. Included in the coverage: factors that contribute to youth homelessness factors that shape sexual practice a Bourdieusian analysis of youth homelessness and sexual risk-taking a health promotion approach that can potentially reduce youth homelessness and their risk of HIV/STIs Homeless Youth of Pakistan: Survival Sex and HIV Risk will attract undergraduate and postgraduate students, and researchers interested in exploring issues such as youth homelessness, sexual risk-taking, and HIV/STIs.https://ecommons.aku.edu/books/1123/thumbnail.jp

Method of moments solution to ethylene glycol based Al2O3 nanofluid flow through expanding/contracting rectangular channel

No full text
In this study, we present a comprehensive analysis of the laminar time-dependent magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of ethylene glycol-based aluminum oxide nanofluid through a rectangular channel with contracting/expanding porous walls. We investigate the influence of aggregation/non-aggregation of nanoparticles, as well as the presence of thermal radiation. By imposing self-similarities in space and time, we obtain a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations governing the flow. To solve these equations, we employ a well-known semi-analytical technique known as the Method of Moments (MoM). Additionally, we compare our results with the outcomes achieved through an application of another commonly utilized numerical approach (shooting technique with the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg scheme). The comparison shows an excellent agreement that endorses the accuracy of the calculated solutions. The velocity and temperature profiles obtained from our analysis exhibit variations due to the changes in involved dimensionless parameters. We present these variations through graphical representations along with their explanations. Interestingly, our study reveals that the aggregation of nanoparticles influences the fluctuations caused by other parameters, and to some extent, suppresses them. Consequently, we observe less deviation among the velocity and temperature curves for the aggregation case compared to the non-aggregation case. These findings have significant implications in real-world engineering and industry. The understanding of the flow behavior of nanofluids through expanding/contracting rectangular channels can aid in the design and optimization of various engineering systems, such as heat exchangers and microfluidic devices. Additionally, our study provides valuable insights into the effects of nanoparticle aggregation and thermal radiation in such systems, offering opportunities for enhancing their efficiency and performance

The social logic of sexual risk-taking among homeless young people in Pakistan

Internationally, the relationship between homelessness and the increased risk of sexual transmission of HIV is well established. However, little is known about the social processes that shape homeless young people’s sexual choices, decisions, and practices in the context of Pakistan. To address this gap, semistructured interviews were conducted with twenty-nine homeless young people (aged 16-25 years old) from Rawalpindi, Pakistan, including nine cisgender heterosexual men, six cisgender heterosexual women, seven cisgender gay men, and seven transgender heterosexual women. Bourdieu's concepts of capital and social practice guided the analysis of interview data. The analysis revealed that participants’ pathways to homelessness were shaped by the decline of their families as a source of social capital including the poverty of the family, the stigma of being transgender or gay, and through experiences of domestic violence and illicit drug use. Once on the streets, participants improvised with the limited resources available to them by drawing on and reciprocating peer support, pursuing casual work and engaging in dance and/or sex work to accumulate needed resources. While sex helped some participants secure physical protection, social and emotional support and money, it carried risks of HIV/STI, violence, degradation, and social marginalisation. Participants were aware of their sexual health risks, but the social obligations of intimate partnerships, financial considerations, and fear of violence from clients collectively produced a context of competing risks, where protection from HIV/STI became secondary to maintaining relationships, income generation, and physical safety. Also, in relation to sex, participants adopted alternative strategies to protect themselves from HIV, including practices like only performing oral sex, post-sex anal douching, using the withdrawal method and adopting specific sexual positions when not using condoms. Nevertheless, these strategies were not always protective and sometimes inadvertently increased their risk of HIV/STI. The study’s identification of structural and contextual forces that shaped young people’s trajectories into street life, as well as their sexual risk-taking, have implications for policy and programs. An integrated health promotion approach that goes beyond the health sector may help to reduce young people's risk of homelessness and HIV/STI in Pakistan. Building healthy public policies, creating supportive environments, strengthening community actions, developing personal skills, and reorienting health services could help to improve young people’s socioeconomic status, which affects their capacity to practise safe sex and relationships
