Research output on terrorism by India and Pakistan: a bibliometric study
PurposeThis study aims to explore the scholarly literature published on “Terrorism” by India and Pakistan and has an in-depth bibliometric analysis of its various facets.Design/methodology/approachData for the study were harvested from the “Web of Science” one of the widely used and trusted indexing and abstracting source used by research scholars all over the world. The search was confined to the literature published on “Terrorism” by India and Pakistan. A total of 125 results were retrieved and out of them 105 were found relevant. The data were later analyzed on different parameters.FindingsIndia and Pakistan have started to conduct and publish research on “Terrorism” since 1990. However, only five articles were published till 2000. Presently, out of total 105 publications, India contributed 57 (54 per cent) and Pakistan contributed 48 (46 per cent) articles on Terrorism. Majority of the articles (93 per cent) were contributed by the individual researchers without any financial support from the funding agencies. The authorship pattern of the articles revealed that 40.95 per cent (43) articles were contributed by single author, whereas 59.05 per cent (62) were authored in collaboration. In terms of research collaboration, Pakistani authors collaborated with authors of six nations of the world, whereas Indian authors collaborated only with researchers of three countries. Most of the research articles were published from the authors affiliated with universities and other higher educational institutions (64.76 per cent), followed by colleges (12.38 per cent) and other government departments. Most of the articles were published during last five years from 2011-2015 (52.38 per cent), followed by 2006-2010 (28.57 per cent). These articles were published in more than 80 journals and the majority were published from England (36, 34.29 per cent) followed by United States of America (26, 24.76 per cent) and Netherlands (13, 12.38 per cent) simultaneously.Research limitations/implicationsThe findings of the study need to be cautioned as the data were harvested from “Web of Science” only.Practical implicationsThe paper is useful for politicians, defense ministries, academicians, researchers and many other interested agencies such as human rights organizations or activists.Originality/valueThis is the first paper providing information on research output of India and Pakistan on Terrorism and will serve as bed rock for future research in the field.</jats:sec
Survey of the literature reading habits and preferences of adolescents : a study of a public school in India
Background. In the modern competitive age, reading is the cornerstone for success in all academic disciplines. Objective. The study sought to find out the literature reading habits and preferences of adolescent students, and the promotional tactics of authors to attract these students towards reading. Method. The data was collected in the Delhi Public School, Srinagar in India, from students of 11th and 12th classes (grades), aged between 14-16 years. A questionnaire survey was administered to 150 students who were systematically sampled. Results. The study found that adolescents of both genders like reading (69% of girls; 65% of boys) on electronic media. Adolescents have varied tastes in reading. Fiction is the most preferred genre of literature read by respondents, followed by non-fiction. However, girls have a greater preference for fiction compared to boys. Similarly boys have a greater preference for non-fiction compared to girls. Among the various genres of fiction, crime/detective is the most read genre, followed by realistic teen fiction. Romance and poetry are more popular among girls, whereas crime/detective, horror, and realistic teen fiction are more popular among boys. For non-fiction, the respondents generally read self-help/personality development books, followed by personalities and historical literature. Boys prefer to read about personalities whereas self-help/personality development is the first preference of girls. To attract adolescents, authors include aggression and violence, romantic language, explicit content (sexuality), and slang/crude language amongst other tactics in their writings (literature).Published versio
Open Access Religious Journals- An Analytical Study of the DOAJ
The main purpose of the paper is to study the publishing trends of the open access religious
journals available in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). The data were collected
online from the Directory of Open Access Journals and quantitative method was applied for data
analysis. The data were collected in December 2017 and later presented in tabular forms to reveal
the findings. The findings show that 119 religious journals are registered in the DOAJ, published
from the 27 countries by 114 publishing agencies in 14 languages. The maximum number of
journals (21, 17.65%) is published from Indonesia in the English language (79, 66.39%) during the
2nd decade (2010-2017) of the 21st century
A quantitative analysis of the open access business and economics journals
The main purpose of the paper is to study the publishing trends of the open access business and economics journals available in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). The online survey was conducted for collection of data and quantitative method was applied for data analysis. The data were collected from the December 10-20, 2013 about more than six hundred business and economic journals and later presented in tabular forms to reveal the findings in accordance with desired objectives. The findings show that 607 business and economics journals are listed in the DOAJ and are published fromthe 67 countries of the world. The maximum number of journals (88, 14.50%) is published from Brazil, and during the first decade (2001-2010) of the 21st century (382, 62.93%). The linguistic assessment shows that the open access business and economics journals are mostly monolingual (405, 66.72%) and the majority of these are published in English language (498, 82.04%). The results also reveal that the majority of the business and economics journals (415, 68.37%) doesn’t charge publication fees to authors whereas almost one-fourth (147, 24.22%) of the journals demand article processing charges. The study does not explore the whole World Wide Web, but only the DOAJ and therefore, figures do not represent the actual number of the open access business and economics journals available online. The study is very beneficial for the business and economics scientists, academicians, researchers, information experts and open access advocates across the globe
Attitudes towards Copyright infringement-A Psychological case study of Faculty of Science, University of Kashmir
Purpose: The attitudes that we hold in our minds continuously guide and modify our behavior and guide our plan of action. In the present era research in every field of human endeavor is elevating with every passing second. This unparalleled growth in research has however paved the way for copyright infringement and to a greater extent plagiarism in one way or the other. The study is makes a psychological assessment of the attitudes that function as mental framework or social schemas of faculty on affective, behavioral, and cognitive dimensions towards intellectual property infringement and related issues.Design/Methodology/Approach: The data for the study was assembled by self-administered questionnaire, which was distributed among the teaching faculty of Sciences, University of Kashmir. A total of 25 responses were received out of 38. Data was analyzed on 7-point lickert scale.Results: The results achieved give a clear indication to the fact that plagiarism is an issue that is much talked about but less understood. The results suggest that the main factors that contribute to plagiarism include lack of awareness, lack of understanding, lack of competence to hold technology and other personal attitudes. All the three fronts of affective, cognitive and behavioral components, the results achieved in behavioral aspect lacked to a certain degree. On the other two fronts the results achieved were quite satisfactory.Originality/Value: The study intends to enlighten the attitudes about copyright issues and rate of plagiarism on the basis of psychological assessments taking place in the research works carried out by the teaching staff from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Kashmir.Key words: Psychology; Attitudes, Plagiarism, IPR, Lickert scale, Psychology, Human behavior, CognitionPaper type: Researc
