Entrevista a Olegario González de Cardedal
This interview of Pedro Baya Casal concerns on Olegario Gonzalez de Cardedal¿s christological approaches in Cuatro Poetas desde la otra Ladera, where the author provides new aspects related to the dialogue between Theology and Poetry. The theologian recalls how Literature molded his life and how it also became a key to newer insights in Chistology. As a result, the interdisciplinar dialogue is recognized both as a method already in use, and also as a stimulation to follow through, in the lines of those who already had theologized from poetry and those poets who became inspired in Christ¿s visible stature and destiny meaningfully developedLa presente entrevista, realizada por Pedro Baya Casal, desarrolla el encuentro entre literatura y teología en el pensamiento cristológico de Olegario Gonzalez de Cardedal en Cuatro poetas desde la otra ladera.
Crossing frames of art and identity: Baya, Cixous, and Beji
Born in North African countries and brought up in transcultural environments, Algerian painter Baya Mahiddine, Francophone author Helene Cixous, and Tunisian writer Hele Beji produce works that challenge national, cultural, and social frames of category. This study demonstrates how the three women explore their complex sociocultural backgrounds and produce original works and ideas that undermine preset conventions.
The paper examines Baya, Cixous, and Beji in separate chapters in order to identify the commonalities and distinctions of their personal histories and works. They develop innovative techniques or ideas from a transcultural perspective that illustrates, addresses, and transcends issues concerning a complicated past: a disconnected heritage, an inaccessible homeland, and fading cultural traditions. Despite their divergent origins and motivations, they converge in the project of recreating identity through the creative activities of painting and writing. From a unique "transpective" viewpoint that crosses the boundaries of time, gender, and culture, they re-present and rewrite femininity, memory, and sociocultural realities in a way that surpasses classifications and expectations. Whether due to their sociocultural circumstance or personal conviction, they exercise a liberated creativity in order to contribute important works to the fields of visual arts and Francophone literature.
In the process of investigating the significant and original accomplishments of Baya, Cixous, and Beji, this study reveals the location of "truth" of each woman's transcultural identity. Their plural subjectivity lies beyond the confines of a frame and resides in an undesignated "passe-partout," or interstitial, region. Within the spaces of art and literature, the three women discover a place of illusion, a "Ka'aba," where they can enjoy a liberated creativity and express their singularity. As the twenty-first century heads towards an increasingly transnational future, individuals globally must similarly embrace a transpective vision in order to maintain cross-cultural understanding and solidarity

The impact of rare variation on extreme and unexpected phenotypes in the UK Biobank
Human disease can be characterised by deviation from a ``normal'' or healthy state. Using exome sequencing data from the UK Biobank (UKB), I examined the effect of rare coding variants on deviations from normality to better understand disease. Biomarker deviations from reference ranges are commonly used to indicate disease. For the first time, I quantified the proportion of individuals in UKB with abnormal biomarker values across 32 blood and urine biomarkers. Disease risk increased with the number of abnormal biomarkers, highlighting their clinical relevance. By contrasting traditional linear association between continuous biomarker level with dichotomised (extreme vs. non-extreme value) biomarkers, I identified associations which would not otherwise have been found, including a PNPLA3 missense variant associated with extreme serum triglyceride levels. Polygenic scores (PGS) predict complex traits and stratify disease risk but fail to fully capture individual-level variation. Misaligned individuals, whose phenotypes deviate from expectation based on PGS, allow us to identify risk factors beyond common-variant effects. I tested whether rare damaging variation in rare disorder genes can explain this deviation for ten traits: type 2 diabetes (T2D) cases carrying pathogenic variants have significantly lower PGS than non-carriers, and both coronary artery disease and T2D controls carrying protective variants have significantly higher PGS than non-carriers. Using this framework, I searched for novel protective or pathogenic genes, identifying KANK1 as a therapeutic target for primary ovarian insufficiency. Finally, I led the largest-ever systematic functional characterisation of genes associated with fat accumulation, a disease mechanism in which abnormal deviations cause obesity and lipodystrophy. I identified SLTM as a novel therapeutic target for obesity, due to its effect on earlier onset of obesity, its replication in an independent dataset (All of Us), and the significant effect of SLTM knockdown on lipid accumulation in human fat cells. Taken together, this thesis advances understanding of the impact of rare variants on extreme and unexpected phenotypic deviations, and contributes meaningful insights into the genetic aetiology of human disease
En el centenario de la publicación de “La Sierra Baya, Estudio geológico y económico” por Juan José Nágera
The Monograph “La Sierra Baya” by Juan José Nágera, was published in 1919 by the Dirección General de Minas, Geología e Hidrología. Several aspects of the Monograph are analysed, underlying that the author recognizes among its objectives the usefulness for teaching, quarry industries and local people. The Monograph presents the first geological map of the area and describes the stratigraphic sequence, some structural and paleontological features and makes emphasis on the quality of the stone for the lime and cement industry as for the paving of streets and paths, backing its asseverations with physical and chemical data and analysis. In this contribution, only the first part of the Monograph is analysed, which refers to the “Geological Constitution” as the author calls it, and includes the basement and sedimentary cover. The stratigraphic sequence presented by Nágera appropriately modified and completed those of preceding authors and, in general, its proposals are still correct although the advancement of knowledge and the increase in geological observations have produced important advances. The presence of stromatolytic structures, which Nágera observes and describes, but does not identify as fossil structures, would be an example of such a situation.

Animals and stupidity in the work of Sartre
Studying the animal in Sartre's work is meeting the author where we were not expecting. It was also discovered his philosophy out of itself, that is to say, in subjects long considered a minority, such as those relating to the animal. Indeed, Sartre does not arise in clear terms the problem of the animal, either in philosophy or literature. This question rather accompanies the fundamental discourse that the philosopher is about rights and freedom. Endeavoring to define man in his relationship to the other, Sartre continues to touch, directly or indirectly, in the place that occupies the pet to his master. The animal then it is a symbolic strength, so a question that is asked only obliquely, or can it be seen as a serious philosophical theme? We can actually put the animal to the test of Sartre's thought. To put it more clearly, this research is to demonstrate that the animal is to be intricately linked to man and raises existential questions

On the genes, genealogies, and geographies of Quebec
Population genetic models only provide coarse representations of real-world ancestry. We used a pedigree compiled from 4 million parish records and genotype data from 2276 French and 20,451 French Canadian individuals to finely model and trace French Canadian ancestry through space and time. The loss of ancestral French population structure and the appearance of spatial and regional structure highlights a wide range of population expansion models. Geographic features shaped migrations, and we find enrichments for migration, genetic, and genealogical relatedness patterns within river networks across regions of Quebec. Finally, we provide a freely accessible simulated whole-genome sequence dataset with spatiotemporal metadata for 1,426,749 individuals reflecting intricate French Canadian population structure. Such realistic population-scale simulations provide opportunities to investigate population genetics at an unprecedented resolution
Whole Genome Sequencing of Mycobacterium africanum Strains from Mali Provides Insights into the Mechanisms of Geographic Restriction
Background Mycobacterium africanum, made up of lineages 5 and 6 within the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTC), causes up to half of all tuberculosis cases in West Africa, but is rarely found outside of this region. The reasons for this geographical restriction remain unknown. Possible reasons include a geographically restricted animal reservoir, a unique preference for hosts of West African ethnicity, and an inability to compete with other lineages outside of West Africa. These latter two hypotheses could be caused by loss of fitness or altered interactions with the host immune system. Methodology/Principal Findings We sequenced 92 MTC clinical isolates from Mali, including two lineage 5 and 24 lineage 6 strains. Our genome sequencing assembly, alignment, phylogeny and average nucleotide identity analyses enabled us to identify features that typify lineages 5 and 6 and made clear that these lineages do not constitute a distinct species within the MTC. We found that in Mali, lineage 6 and lineage 4 strains have similar levels of diversity and evolve drug resistance through similar mechanisms. In the process, we identified a putative novel streptomycin resistance mutation. In addition, we found evidence of person-to-person transmission of lineage 6 isolates and showed that lineage 6 is not enriched for mutations in virulence-associated genes. Conclusions This is the largest collection of lineage 5 and 6 whole genome sequences to date, and our assembly and alignment data provide valuable insights into what distinguishes these lineages from other MTC lineages. Lineages 5 and 6 do not appear to be geographically restricted due to an inability to transmit between West African hosts or to an elevated number of mutations in virulence-associated genes. However, lineage-specific mutations, such as mutations in cell wall structure, secretion systems and cofactor biosynthesis, provide alternative mechanisms that may lead to host specificity.Intelligent SystemsElectrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Scienc
