No full textIba’t iba ang gamit ng pook - pang-ekonomiya, lipunan, pulitika o ideolohiya, na maaari rin namang kumbinasyon ng dalawa o lahat na. Ang mga gamit ng pook, dapat namang mabatid, ay hindi nangyayari sa kawalan. Bahagi sila ng mahabang prosesong historikal. Ang kanilang gamit ay manipestasyon ng diskursibong pakikipagtalabtaban ng tao sa nag-iiba-ibang agos ng kasaysayan at mga materyal na pwersang panlipunan. Kasalikop din sila ng pagmamarka ng tao ng kanilang kairalang ‘panghabang panahon’ sa mundo ng di masupil na pag-inog at pagkilos, ng nakagugulantang na mga kapanandalian. Kaya naman,ang mga kapookan ay pagsuysoy din sa mga lunan na magkakasalikop at umiibabaw sa bawat isa - heterotopia. Sa madaling salita, proyekto ng artikulong ito na basahin ang Calvario, isang popular na pook-pasyalan sa Mauban, Quezon, sa katulad na pagpapalagay sa kairalan ng pook at lunan upang itampok ang kaniyang kakanyahang pangheterotopia at ugnayan sa mga prosesong historikal. Ang artikulong ito ay tungkol din sa kasasayan ng Mauban, na pinalutang mula sa pag-iral ng iba-ibang lunan sa iisang pook. Papaksain ng artikulong ito, kung magkagayon, ang pagsasalunan ng lokal na kasaysayan, pagsasapook ng samu’t saring naratibo sa iisang istrukturang pampubliko at kung magkagayon ay pakikibahagi sa pagigiit ng kritikal na perspektibong panlipunan sa kontemporaneong panlipunang teorya at pagsusuri. Mga susing salita: alamat, heterotopia, kasaysayang lokal, lunan, modernidad, pasyalang pangturismo, pook Places are used for various reasons whether they be economic, social, political or ideological or a combination of two or all of them. Such uses of place, however, do not happen in a vacuum. They are a part of long historical processes. Their uses are a manifestation of the people’s discursive engagement with differing currents of history and material forces and their ways of stamping their ‘permanence’ in an otherwise world of unmitigated flux, of unsettling impermanences. Thus, places are also about spaces that overlap each other or present some alternate ordering called heterotopias. This paper reads Calvario, a popular town landmark in Mauban, Quezon, along that vein to highlight its heterotopic qualities and engagement with historical processes. In a number of ways, this article is about the town’s history, evoked through the presences of multifarious spaces in one place made by the town’s inhabitants through the years. No full textABSTRAKNakatuon ang pag-aaral na ito sa pagsusuri sa pampanitikang representasyon ng babae sa pook pagawaan at ang espasyo ng pag-aangkin sa piling mga nobela ni Valeriano Hernandez-Peña. Kung sinasabing ang panitikan ay representasyon ng isinahirayang ugnayan ng mga indibidwal sa kanilang kondisyon ng pag-iral sa lipunan, paano nabibigyan ng pampanitikang representasyon ang babaeng manggagawa sa mga nobela ni Valeriano Hernandez-Peña? Paanong muling nalikha sa mga akda ang mga karanasan ng kababaihang manggagawa – ang pagsasamantala sa tauhan bilang babae at bilang manggagawa? At sa gitna ng mga ito, paano nabibigyan ng ahensiya ang tauhan para baguhin ang kaniyang kalagayan sa nobela? Naging puwersa ang kababaihang manggagawa na kongkretong nagiging materyal ng manunulat sa pagsasahiraya sa unang mga dekada ng siglo 20. Gamit ang alegorikal na pagbasang sumasaklaw sa hanggahang politikal, panlipunan, at historikal, sinikap na bakatin ang ugnayan ng teksto sa konteksto ng ekonomiya, paggawa, at turing sa kababaihan sa unang dekada ng pananakop ng Amerikano, kung kailan umusbong ang mga nobela. Sa pangkalahatan, bagaman karamihan sa mga nobela ni Hernandez-Peña ay tumatalakay sa pag-ibig at nakakahon sa ideolohiya ng patriyarka, may mga guwang sa teksto na nagsilbing daluyan ng mga resistant na imahen/espasyo ng/para sa babaeng manggagawa. Tinatayang mapupunan ng pag-aaral ang mga puwang na naiwan ng ibang manunulat na pumaksa sa kasarian at gayundin, makapagdaragdag sa mga pananaliksik tungkol sa babaeng manggagawa sa ilalim ng kolonyalismong Amerikano. Mga susing salita: nobelang Tagalog, panunuring pampanitikan, babae, manggagawa, panahon ng Amerikano ABSTRACTThe study analyzes how representations in literature relate the imagined and real lives of individuals in society. Because women workers provided a tangible material for Valeriano Hernandez-Peña in re-imagining American colonialism, the article examines how they were recreated in the novels of the author. How did Hernandez-Peña articulate the experiences of the female character and her oppression as a woman and a worker? In the process, how is the character given agency to transform her condition in the novel? Using an allegorical reading that encompasses the political, social, and historical, the researcher outlined connections and correspondences in the context of economics, labor, and prevailing concepts on women during the period. As a whole, even if Hernandez-Peña produced mostly romantic novels confined to the patriarchal ideology, there are crevices in the text where resistant images/spaces of/for women workers flow. The study contributes to the existing research on women workers during American colonialism as well as to the continuing discourses on gender. K-U-L-T-U-R-A sa Gitna ng Suliranin ng Lupang Tirahan ng Pamayanang Ayta ng Putingkahoy, Rosario, Batangas
No full textSuliranin sa lupa ang isa sa pinakamabigat na hamon ng mga pamayanang Ayta sa bansa, ngunit nanatiling limitado ang mga pag-aaral hinggil sa kanilang paninirahan sa labas ng lupang ninuno. Tinugunan ng papel ang puwang na ito sa pamamagitan ng pagsusuri sa karanasan ng pamayanang Ayta sa Putingkahoy, Rosario, Batangas bilang indigenous peoples outside ancestral domain. Ginamit sa pag-aaral ang modelong mnemonic na K-U-L-T-U-R-A at disenyong etnograpiya na nakabatay sa partisipasyon ng pamayanan upang masuri ang kamalayan, saloobin, pag-uugali, reaksyon, at pagkilos ng mga Ayta sa kanilang suliranin sa lupang tirahan. Natuklasan na ang paninirahan sa labas ng lupang ninuno ay lalo pang nagpalala sa kakulangan sa edukasyon, kawalan ng permanenteng kabuhayan, malnutrisyon, kakulangan ng representasyon sa barangay, at mas mataas na bulnerabilidad sa kalamidad. Lumitaw rin ang kultura ng tahimik na paghihintay at mahinahong pakikipag-ugnayan, kung saan ipinauubaya sa chieftain ang pakikipag-usap sa mga opisyal ng barangay. Sa kabila nito, natukoy ang kontra-diskursong nagpakitang may pangarap ang mga Ayta na makapagtapos ng pag-aaral at may bukas silang pagtanggap sa mga mananaliksik at community partners. Gayunman, nanatiling hamon ang usapin ng free, prior, and informed consent at etika sa mga programang isinagawa kasama ang mga katutubo. Ipinakita rin ng papel ang aktibong partisipasyon ng kabataang Ayta sa pagpapasigla ng katutubong kaalaman at ang panawagang mas malinaw na maipaliwanag ang Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act (IPRA) upang maprotektahan at mapalakas ang tinig ng mga Ayta sa labas ng lupang ninuno
Near-capacity code design for entanglement-assisted classical communication over quantum depolarizing channels
No full textWe have conceived a near-capacity code design for entanglement-assisted classical communication over the quantum depolarizing channel. The proposed system relies on efficient near-capacity classical code designs for approaching the entanglement-assisted classical capacity of a quantum depolarizing channel. It incorporates an Irregular Convolutional Code (IRCC), a Unity Rate Code (URC) and a soft-decision aided Superdense Code (SD), which is hence referred to as an IRCC-URC-SD arrangement. Furthermore, the entanglement-assisted classical capacity of an N-qubit superdense code transmitted over a depolarizing channel is invoked for benchmarking. It is demonstrated that the proposed system operates within 0.4 dB of the achievable noise limit for both 2-qubit as well as 3-qubit SD schemes. More specifically, our design exhibits a deviation of only 0.062 and 0.031 classical bits per channel use from the corresponding 2-qubit and 3-qubit capacity limits, respectively. The proposed system is also benchmarked against the classical convolutional and turbo codes

Front narrow, deflexed medially, triangular in frontal view. Orbit oblique, mesial part of supraorbital margin placed more posteriorly than external orbital end; orbital margins entire, outer part granulated, infraorbital margin mesially terminating in sharp tooth; supraorbital margin demarcated from antennular fossa by obtuse angle; supraorbital margin demarcated from antennular fossa by acute tooth; infraorbital and supraorbital margins not continuing laterally beyond orbit proper. Eyes short, mobile, fully occupying orbit. Epistome short, medially sunken. Maxilliped 3 covering about 4 / 5 of buccal cavern. Thoracic sternites 1 and 2 completely fused, sternite 1 tooth-like, directed dorsally at proximal end of buccal cavern; sternites 2 and 3 demarcated by deep groove; sternites 3 and 4 fused, lateral parts marked by very shallow depressions and pits; sternites 4–8 demarcated by narrow lateral grooves at outside of sternal cavity, grooves ending at lateral parts of sternal cavity; sternal cavity depressed medially, no clear longitudinal groove. Cheliped merus with large transverse and triangular lobe on subdistal part of dorsal margin. P 2–4 similar in shape, P 3 longest; meri about 3 times as long as high, about 1.5 times length of propodus and carpus length combined; carpus longer than propodus. P 5 merus slightly longer than carpus and propodus combined, about twice as long as high, just reaching proximal half of P 4 merus; distal end of ischium and proximal end of merus each with single sharp tooth on flexor margin. P 2–5 all with single pair of short, sharp claw on distoflexor angle of propodi; dactyli very short, claw-like. Male abdomen with all somites freely articulating, first somite widest. Thoracic sternite 8 exposed when abdomen closed, somite 3 to telson forming triangular outline. G 1 straight, slender, distally tapering incurved. G 2 small, about ¼ length of G 1. Included species. Sa bisa ng ideolohiya, ginagawang sabjek ang indibidwal--sabjek na kumikilos, nagpapasiya, nananagot. Kapwa awtor at guro/estudyante ay nagiging sabjek sa praktika’t institusyon ng ideolohiya. Sa kontekstong historikal, binibigyan ng imahinaryong kalutasan ang mga kontradiksiyon sa lipunan sa balangkas at istruktura ng tula, dula o anumang akda. Sinubukan ang tesis na ito sa analisis ng nobela ni Bautista. Iniugnay dito ang produksyong pampanitikan sa proseso ng tunggalian ng mga uri’t sektor sa neokolonya sa kasalukuyang yugto ng kasaysayang global.Mga susing salita: ideolohiya, kontradiksiyon, sabjek, desaparesidos, komoditi, indibidwalismo.Ideology functions as a key concept in appraising and judging any work of art. Ideology transforms individuals into subjects--subjects that decide, act and accept responsibility. Authors, teachers, students all become subjects through the apparatus of ideological practices and institutions. In a historical context, social contradictions are resolved illusorily through the forms/structures of poems, plays, or any literary artifice. This thesis is demonstrated in the analysis of Bautista’s novel, linking literary production to the historical process of class struggle in the neocolony at this specific global conjuncture.Keywords: ideology, contradiction, subject, desaparecidos, commodity, individualism
