The influence of masonry infill on the seismic behaviour of RC frame buildings
Although in literature many studies show that infills modify the behaviour of framed structures under
lateral loads, the contribution of panels is generally neglected in common structural analyses. The aim
of this paper is to provide a simple tool able to reproduce the effect of infills in the global (stiffness)
and local response (effects on the frame) of a building under earthquake loads. Finite Element analyses
are performed, comparing the results to experimental data, in order to evaluate the local effects on the
frame and underline the influence of the coefficient of friction at the infill–frame interface. Successively
a suitable macro-model to simulate the infill behaviour is proposed, at the aim to reach acceptable results
both in global and local analyses: two non-parallel struts are set in each frame according to the most significant
parameters affecting the behaviour of an infilled structure. The obtained results are applied to a
partially infilled building, in order to underline the peculiarities of the proposed approach and to compare
it to other methods available in literature and in codes
Impact of environmental, social, and governance information on economic performance: Evidence of a corporate 'sustainability advantage' from Europe
Both UN Agenda 2030 and the Directive n. 2014/95/EU have recently promoted a marked improvement in sustainability disclosure, especially for larger companies or groups. Starting from this premise, we carried out an original study on the financial materiality of the E-S-G (environmental, social and governance) information of primary companies listed on major European indices in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and Spain (BEL, CAC, DAX, FTSE-MIB, IBEX). Within the Stakeholder Theory and the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)-Corporate Social Perfomance (CSP) framework, our empirical analysis examined the impact of non-financial results (assessed through sustainability indicators) on economic (financial and market) performance in the timespan 2014-2017. We propose a different approach from previous studies, based on a PLS (Partial least squares)/SEM (Structural equation modeling) methodology together with the unprecedented consideration of "ESG" measures (Environmental, Social and Governance), either absolute (scores) or relative (extra-performance over industry sector). We find that, despite the absolute level of the individual ESG scores not being impactful, the "distance" from the industry average-normal figures (excess or abnormal ESG performance) is positively relevant, collaterally revisiting the notion of competitive advantage in sustainability terms. Corporate size is shown to be a significant background factor (as slack resources proxy). Social, environmental and governance responsibility (to all stakeholders) appear to be important as a competitive factor of the modern firm
As it is well known in literature, infills modify the behaviour of framed structures under lateral loads. Nevertheless, infills are generally neglected in structural analysis, and this, in many cases, may lead to unreliable evaluations of structural response. Although several theoretical and experimental researches express the necessity to take into account the infills, today reliable models of infilled structures do not exist, due to the difficult interpretation of experimental results. The aim of the proposed approach is to evaluate the effect of infills in the global and local response of a building under earthquake loads, identifying the most significant parameters that influence its behaviour. In this paper a convenient tool for the evaluation of the effects of the infills is suggested, in order to reach acceptable results in global and local analyses. The attention is focused on the most used typology in Italy: reinforced concrete structures infilled with masonry panels, realized in contact with the frame after its hardening and without connectors nor joints
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
