No full textThis document is deliverable “D8.6 – Legacy Exploitation Plan” of the European Union project “EMERGE: Evaluation, control and Mitigation of the EnviRonmental impacts of shippinG Emissions” (hereinafter also referred to as “EMERGE”, project reference: 874990). The aim of this deliverable is to describe a strategy for the exploitation and further development of the results produced by the EMERGE project. It addresses potential commercialization of the project’s models and tools (such as the decision support tool) after the end of the project.This deliverable mainly targets the consortium partners and should be read alongside “D9.1 – Project Management Plan”. It serves as a reference document for the whole EMERGE consortium including potentially any individuals joining in the project at a later stage. Since the project has brought together a set of diverse experts from different fields and backgrounds, a core principle guiding internal processes is based on open participation and flexibility. Additional principles are transparency about the project status as well as risk prediction and mitigation. D9.1 defines procedures of how to best communicate and structure the collaboration. It sets out that regular meetings are to be held via videoconferences as well as face-to-face. Communication has been also taking place via e-mails using the project mailing lists. The main tool for sharing and collaborating on documents is a dedicated Microsoft EMERGE Google Drive platform. D8.6 sets out how the results arising from the EMERGE project can be exploited and further developed.In terms of ethics, the consortium follows the general rules defined by the EC and commits strongly to respect individual and ethical research conduct. The exchange of primary research data amongst partners may in some specific cases contain personal data from study participants and the participants will be made aware of this. The EMERGE consortium uses open strategies with regards to the research outcomes. This relates to software that is published under specific open licenses, following, and where possible contributing to, open standards as well as research publications, which should be made openly accessible as far as possible. The Legacy Exploitation Plan of the EMERGE project is understood as a living document and will be updated if the need for improvement of the internal processes arises

No full textThis report, prepared by MarInEM in the framework of WP8 – ‘Dissemination, communication and exploitation’ of the EMERGE project, addresses Deliverable 8.2 (D8.2) – ‘Organization and minutes of the two stakeholder workshops.’ It encompasses the proceedings of the two stakeholder workshops organized to engage stakeholders in the project activities and to promote constructive dialogue with them.D8.2 provides an overview of the two workshops that took place online during the project’s lifetime. The first workshop, ‘Abatement of the emissions and discharges of shipping’, held at the beginning of the 2nd year of the project’s duration, aimed to introduce stakeholders to the project’s scope and goals, and requested their inputs, insights and recommendations. During the second workshop, which occurred towards the completion of the project, project partners presented significant findings and policy recommendations to the stakeholders. Additionally, both workshops were attended by members of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) and the general public. Furthermore, D8.2 describes the aim, target groups and the channels through which the workshops were disseminated.US is the Lead Beneficiary for WP8, but MarInEM and US managed WP8 together and closely cooperated on the implementation of its tasks and its deliverables

Technologies for controlling pollution from
shipping are relatively new. Developing
a robust scientific understanding of the
environmental impacts of emission reduction
technologies within the shipping sector is a
major scientific and societal challenge.
The EMERGE project has successfully met
its goals by:
• Quantifying and evaluating the effects of
potential emission reduction solutions for
shipping in Europe for several scenarios;
and
• Developing effective strategies and
measures to reduce the environmental
impacts of shipping
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
