Electromagnetic heating for adhesive melting in CFRTP joining: study, analysis, and testing
Induction heating of thermoplastic composites is a suitable and promising technique, due to the very short heating time and the possibility of generating the heat at the interface between the adherends compared with other heating technologies, i.e. owen heating or hot melt gun manual deposition. The aim of this work is to study the electromagnetic induction heating in adhesive bonding of thermoplastic matrix composite materials, when a hot-melt thermoplastic adhesive, Prodas, is used. A numerical model for studying the effect of the process parameters, such as current intensity, maximum temperature and holding time at maximum temperature, has been developed. Experimental tests validated the results of the numerical model; also, the mechanical properties of the adhesive joints were evaluated by short beam shear test and single lap shear tests to define the values of technological parameters allowing for the better joint strength. Moreover, ANOVA analysis was employed to evaluate the most significant parameter which affected the mechanical properties, highlighting the optimum process parameters
A Time-Frequency Domain Feature Extraction Approach Enhanced by Computer Vision for Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing Monitoring Using Fourier and Wavelet Transform
Wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) is a rapidly growing technology that offers several advantages over traditional manufacturing methods, such as high deposition rates and the ability to build large components in a cost-effective manner. However, WAAM is also prone to the generation of defects, so the timely identification of anomalies is important to reduce the waste and get components of high quality. To develop anomaly detection application, the feature extraction process represents a key ingredient which allows machine learning systems to analyze big data. Waveform GMAW welding processes are typically used in WAAM to reduce the heat input supplied to the material and avoid defects such as excessive bending of parts and residual stress. These processes are based on the controlled dip transfer principle, so the waveforms should repeat themselves during deposition. This suggests that the frequency content of the voltage and current welding signals acquired during the process can provide important information about the process state. In this research, an experimental campaign was conducted to collect data for pulsed welding and surface tension transfer (STT) processes during the deposition of mild steel ER70S6, stainless steel 316L, Aluminum 4043, and Inconel 718 alloys. Welding voltage and current signals were acquired during the building processes, and a frequency domain analysis was conducted using the Fast Fourier transform (FFT) and discrete wavelet transform (DWT) with the aim to extract features from signals aiming to better separate the feature space, which means improve anomaly detection performance in detecting defects like arc instability, porosity, geometrical defect due to arc blow and humping. Furthermore, a methodology based on time-frequency analysis enhanced by Gabor filter for texture anomaly detection of scalograms obtained by Morlet Continuous Wavelet Transform is proposed, which showed an improvement of performance in separation between normal and anomalous deposition of several materials under different welding technologies
Monitoring and control the Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing process using artificial intelligence techniques: a review
Numerical modeling and experimental validation of thermoplastic composites induction welding
In this work, a numerical simulation and experimental test of the induction welding of continuous fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composites (CFRTPCs) was provided. The thermoplastic Polyamide 66 (PA66) with carbon fiber fabric was used. Using a dedicated software (JMag Designer), the influence of the fundamental process parameters such as temperature, current and holding time was investigated. In order to validate the results of the simulations, and therefore the numerical model used, experimental tests were carried out, and the temperature values measured during the tests were compared with the aid of an optical pyrometer, with those provided by the numerical simulation. The mechanical properties of the welded joints were evaluated by single lap shear tests
Technological characterisation of thermoshrinking cross-linked polyethylene by destructive and non-destructive techniques
The attention of the present work is focused on the characterisation of thermoshrinking cross-linked polyethylene, which is produced at the Megarad s.r.l. firm and which is mostly used as insulation for electrical cables of low and medium voltage, protection for communication cables, anti-corrosion protection for gas pipes. Two cross-linking processes: chemical (silane grafting) and electron beam irradiation are employed. The performance of the end product is verified by means of both destructive and non-destructive tests. Some parameters such as: gel fraction, modulus of elasticity at 150 °C and elongation percent are measured. Non-destructive tests are carried out by means of lock-in thermography; the variation of the phase angle with increasing the cross-linking degree is related to the variation of the modulus of elasticity. It is found that the thermographie technique is capable of giving information about material modifications arising under cross-linking and is also able to detect defects which may form during manufacturing. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
