AbstractIn the present paper we prove some representation theorems for t-Wright convex functions, as a consequence of a support theorem, which was proved by the author in earlier paper

    New monetarist economics: methods

    No full text
This essay articulates the principles and practices of New Monetarism, the authors' label for a recent body of work on money, banking, payments, and asset markets. They first discuss methodological issues distinguishing their approach from others: New Monetarism has something in common with Old Monetarism, but there are also important differences; it has little in common with Keynesianism. They describe the principles of these schools and contrast them with their approach. To show how it works in practice, they build a benchmark New Monetarist model and use it to study several issues, including the cost of inflation, liquidity, and asset trading. They also develop a new model of banking.Monetary policy

Epicurismo Deísmo providencial: N. T. Wright e Charles Taylor sobre a Teologia Natural

    No full text
While the practice of Natural Theology (NT) is widespread among Christians, Charles Taylor argues that the practice is simply a remake of what he defines as Providential Deism. On a similar, yet more nuanced view, N. T. Wright believes NT has become trapped within the frame of Epicureanism. After analyzing the major claims of each author, I have concluded that their concerns can benefit the practice of NT, and in my article I suggest how that could be done. &nbsp

    Continuance theory and teacher education

    No full text
Continuance theory is usually related to the regular use of technology in the business/industry area. It attempts to explain why people either continue to use specific technologies in their work, or not. Essentially, it links to the perceived value to individuals‟ ability to work effectively, however that is understood in their workplace. In the profession of education, particularly schools and teacher education, the perceived value of continued use is not about individuals and their work, but about individuals‟ work with groups of students and what happens to learning when these digital technologies are used. Continued use is contingent on their students‟ positive responses to these technologies supporting learning. I examine, in the light of continuance theory, what happens when student teachers in an initial secondary teacher education programme report on including digital technologies on practicum. This includes reporting on the effect students‟ responses have on their subsequent attitudes and practices regarding digital technologies in learning contexts

El concepto de clases sociales según Olin Wright

    No full text
This article seeks to study the legacy of Olin Wright regarding the concept of social classes. To do this, the sociological link made by the author at a theoretical and methodological level is investigated. In this context, Wright begins by going through theoretical concepts of different authors, categorizing their positions, and then building his conception of social classes through elements such as class structure, welfare and economic power, interests and exploitation that interact in the capitalist system. After this theoretical review, the methodology used to analyze social class is explored, seeking to operationalize what is understood by class consciousness and other work indicators. Finally, he alludes that the position within the structure of class relations determines certain forms of consciousness, in a capitalist structure founded on exploitation and oppression, being a contribution to Marxism and social sciences.   Keywords: social class, social structure, marxism, class consciousness, power relations.

Development of a consistent and reproducible porcine scald burn model

    No full text
There are very few porcine burn models that replicate scald injuries similar to those encountered by children. We have developed a robust porcine burn model capable of creating reproducible scald burns for a wide range of burn conditions. The study was conducted with juvenile Large White pigs, creating replicates of burn combinations; 50°C for 1, 2, 5 and 10 minutes and 60°C, 70°C, 80°C and 90°C for 5 seconds. Visual wound examination, biopsies and Laser Doppler Imaging were performed at 1, 24 hours and at 3 and 7 days post-burn. A consistent water temperaturewas maintained within the scald device for long durations (49.8 ± 0.1°C when set at 50°C). The macroscopic and histologic appearance was consistent between replicates of burn conditions. For 50°C water, 10 minute duration burns showed significantly deeper tissue injury than all shorter durations at 24 hours post-burn (p ≤ 0.0001), with damage seen to increase until day 3 post-burn. For 5 second duration burns, by day 7 post-burn the 80°C and 90°C scalds had damage detected significantly deeper in the tissue than the 70°C scalds (p ≤ 0.001). A reliable and safe model of porcine scald burn injury has been successfully developed. The novel apparatus with continually refreshedwater improves consistency of scald creation for long exposure times. This model allows the pathophysiology of scald burn wound creation and progression to be examined
