Different Looks For A Child With Multiple Diagnoses: Stability Or Possibility Of Change? [diferentes Olhares Em Relação A Uma Criança Com Múltiplos Diagnósticos: Estabilidade Ou Possibilidade De Mudança?]
Professional practice directed to children with organic problems and unfavorable prognosis deserves attention since it is directly related to the psychological development of the child. It is presented the case study of a child with diagnoses of organic problems and behavioral complaints characterized as aggressive and competitive. It was analyzed the participation of the child, during three years, in a project of intervention in groups, with focus on modes of participation and peer interaction. The analysis allowed the identification of competencies and cooperative modalities of participation, which became more diversified and complex during the period of observation. With this study, it was possible to take a wider perspective of the possibilities and difficulties of the child, suggesting the need of broader analyses of the development of children with multiple developmental complaints.244720729Amaral, L.A., Deficiência: Questões conceituais e alguns de seus desdobramentos (1996) Cadernos de Psicologia, 1, pp. 3-12Amiralian, M.L.T.M., Deficiências: Um novo olhar Contribuições a partir da psicanálise winnicottiniana (2003) Estudos em Clínica, 15 (8), pp. 94-111Batista, C.G., Crianças com problemas orgânicos: Contribuições e riscos de prognósticos psicológicos (2004) Educar em Revista, 23, pp. 45-63Batista, C.G., Laplane, A.L.F., Modalidades de atendimento especializado: O grupo de convivência de crianças com deficiência visual (2007) A pessoa com deficiência visual: Um livro para educadores, pp. 85-111. , E. The lived experience of parents of children admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit in Lebanon
Background: Family caregivers have a significant responsibility in the care of their child in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Parents staying with their child in the PICU have particular needs that should be acknowledged and responded to by clinicians. Several studies have been conducted in the USA and Europe to try to understand the experience of family caregivers of children admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. There are no such studies in Lebanon or the Middle East where the culture and support systems differ from other countries. Objective: To understand the lived experience of Lebanese parents of children admitted to the PICU in a tertiary hospital in Beirut. Design: Phenomenological study. Methods: The study followed purposeful sampling in which 10 parents (mother or father) of children admitted to PICU were interviewed. Data were analyzed following the hermeneutical process as described by Diekelmann and Ironside (1998). Results: A constitutive pattern . Journey into the unknown which constitutes an overarching theme and four major themes with subthemes emerged from the data. These were: We are human beings with dignity ; . looking for a healthier environment; Dependence on God and . The need to be in the loop reveal the parents' journey into the unknown. Conclusion: This qualitative study adds to the knowledge that would help health care workers understand the experience of Lebanese parents with a child in PICU and to highlight the significance of this experience to them. The findings could be used to inform the development of a PICU parental satisfaction instrument for the sample group. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd.Agarwal S, 2008, J CRIT CARE, V23, P227, DOI 10.1016-j.jcrc.2007.07.001; Aimes K., 2011, INTENSIVE CRITICAL C, V27, P143; Nelson RM, 2000, PEDIATRICS, V106, P351; Balluffi Andrew, 2004, Pediatr Crit Care Med, V5, P547, DOI 10.1097-01.PCC.0000137354.19807.44; Board R., 2003, J PEDIAT NURSING, V18; Board R, 2002, HEART LUNG, V31, P53, DOI 10.1067-mhl.2002.121246; BRISLIN RW, 1970, J CROSS CULT PSYCHOL, V1, P185, DOI 10.1177-135910457000100301; Bronner MB, 2008, ACTA PAEDIATR, V97, P181, DOI [10.1111-j.1651-2227.2007.00600.x, 10.1111-1.1651-2227.200700600.x]; Carnevale FA, 2007, PEDIATR CRIT CARE ME, V8, P337, DOI 10.1097-01.PCC.0000269399.47060.6D; Cohen M. Friction Modulation for Endoscopes: A Proof of Concept
Endoscopic instruments are integral components of minimally invasive procedures, widely used for diagnoses and treatment of diseases. When navigating the endoscope, it should experience a minimum of friction, while an increase in friction is beneficial for performing the medical procedure. Friction can be reduced by squeeze film levitation, where air is trapped and pressurized between two surfaces by vibrating one of these surfaces. The squeeze film levitates the two surfaces away from each other, hereby reducing friction. Squeeze film levitation between a rigid curved surface and a soft surface is still poorly understood. Also, a proof of concept of a friction modulation mechanism for endoscopes is not yet available in the research literature. Therefore, this paper describes the design and experimental validation of an ultrasonic vibrating ring that can actively modulate friction by generating a squeeze film. On a steel surface, the friction is reduced considerably. However, on the two soft surfaces described in this paper, the reduction of friction is absent.Mechanical Engineering | BioMechanical Desig
