We have previously examined the antiviral activity of resveratrol on the replication of Epstein Barr Virus (EBV), the etiologic agent of infectious mononucleosis and associated with several types of malignancies of epithelial and lymphoid origin.
In a cellular context that allows in vitro EBV activation and lytic cycle progression through mechanisms closely resembling those that in vivo initiate and enable productive infection, we found that RV inhibited EBV lytic genes expression and the production of viral particles in a dose-dependent manner
Towards a Sound Construction of EVM Bytecode Control-Flow Graphs
No full textEthereum enables the creation and execution of decentralized applications through smart contracts, that are compiled to Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) bytecode. Once deployed in the blockchain, the bytecode is immutable; hence, ensuring that smart contracts are bug-free before their deployment is of utmost importance. A crucial preliminary step for any effective static analysis of EVM bytecode is the extraction of the control-flow graph (CFG): this presents significant challenges due to potentially statically unknown jump destinations. In this paper we present a novel approach, based on abstract interpretation, aiming at building a sound CFG from EVM bytecode smart contracts. Our analysis, which is implemented in our static analyzer EVMLiSA, is based on a parametric abstract domain that approximates concrete execution stacks at each program point as an l-sized set of abstract stacks of maximal height h; the results of the analysis are then used to resolve the jump destinations at jump nodes. In our preliminary experiments, by fine-tuning the analysis parameters, EVMLiSA builds sound CFGs for all smart contracts where permanent storage-related opcodes do not influence jump destinations

No full textThe present study reports the on-field screening of a population of young soccer players in the pursuit of alterations in gait using a portable and low-cost gait analysis system composed of a Wii Balance Board and a webcam.Objective: The present study reports the on-field screening of a population of young soccer players in the pursuit of alterations in gait using a portable and low-cost gait analysis system composed of a Wii Balance Board and a webcam. Results: Recordings of motion of the lower extremities along with vertical ground reaction force (GRF) were used to quantify coefficients of symmetry for the overall GRF and the forces exerted by the quadriceps femori and acting on the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Data show that, in face of a quite homogeneous symmetry of GRF during left and right stance phases of gait, quadriceps and ACL exert and are subjected to left-right asymmetrical forces that might prelude, especially in young athletes, later alterations of gait

Our experiments show that, by fine-tuning the analysis parameters, EVMLiSA is able to build sound CFGs for all real-world smart contracts in the considered benchmark suite. Moreover, EVMLiSA successfully detects all reentrancy vulnerabilities in EVM bytecode smart contracts, while producing a small number of false positives
Does Independence Affect Regulatory Performance? The case of national competition authorities in the European Union
No full textDespite having always been assumed to be true, a relationship between the independence of regulatory agencies and their performance has never been formally tested. This paper aims at verifying whether formal regulatory independence affects the performance of national competition authorities in the EU member states. The author presents and discusses a statistical analysis which shows that greater formal independence leads competition authorities to investigate more cases and to issue more decisions

No full textIn this essay the author demonstrates that it is possible to reconstruct the figure of Caterina Colombini (1340?-1387) – Giovanni Colombini's cousin – through a group of texts: the hagiography of Caterina, the letters sent to her by Giovanni Colombini and, finally, Giovanni's biography written by Feo Belcari. The author divides his text into four parts: the first part analyzes the content of Caterina's hagiography; the second examines the linguistic form of the hagiographic text; in the third, the author analyzes the latent meaning of the window, a symbolic place where Giovanni and Caterina converse on divine topics; in the last part, to conclude, the teachings that Giovanni gives to Catherine and her spiritual daughters – the Gesuate – are analyzed
