Intrusion of Supraerupted Maxillary First Molar Using Modified TPA and TAD's - A Simple, Clinically Efficient Approach.
The orthodontist treating adult patients often encounters a dentition that was neglected after premature loss of posterior teeth. The adjacent teeth tend to tilt and rotate, and the occluding tooth can supraerupt. This early loss of posterior teeth and a delay in replacing the missing teeth results in over eruption of antagonist teeth. Overextrusion of maxillary molars usually results from early loss of antagonistic teeth. The elongated dentoalveolar process may induce problems such as functional disturbances and occlusal interference and cause great difficulty during prosthetic reconstruction. This case report demonstrates the efficient use of TAD's along with modified TPA in a patient with an supraerupted maxillary first molar in a 23-year-old girl. Treatment objective was to intrude the maxillary 1st molar to facilitate prosthetic replacement of lower 1st molar. The treatment mechanics involved: 0.022 x 0.028 MBT appliance for initial leveling & aligning followed by modified TPA with soldered hook for intrusion of first maxillary left molar. A section of Elastomeric chain was stretched from the mini-implant placed in the left buccal 1st molar region to the soldered hook on the Transpalatal Arch. Activation was done every 21 days. We preferred 150 g force to intrude the molar in this study. Intrusion was finished when tooth was leveled with the neighboring teeth. Amount of intrusion achieved was 3 mm in a span of 6 months and to avoid root resorption, intrusive force levels was kept optimal
Transatlanticité et extraterritorialité chez Alain Mabanckou : une esthétique de la langue d’écriture atavico-altéritaire
International audienceThis study looks at two novels by Alain Mabanckou, Petit Piment (2015) and Les Cigognessont immortelles (2018), to analyze how the author inscribes his writing in the popular parlersof Pointe-Noire. Through a language nourished by proverbs, African orality and localexpressions, Mabanckou valorizes a deep cultural rootedness while developing an aesthetic ofopenness towards the Other. His writing is both atavistic, faithful to Congolese memories, andalteritarian, open to cultural cross-fertilization, thus joining the Afropolitan dynamic. Drawing2on the reflections of Jean-Jacques Séwanou Dabla, Édouard Glissant and Achille Mbembe, this study shows that transatlanticity and exterritoriality mark Mabanckou's language: hewrites from “elsewhere” without severing his ties with his native land. His approachdeconstructs the fixed identities inherited from colonialism, by valorizing a mobile, hybridand creative identity. The analysis is structured around three approaches: poetics and stylistics(Gérard Genette), geopoetics (Édouard Glissant) and postcolonial criticism (AchilleMbembe). In this way, Mabanckou contributes to a decentered vision of the world andredefines notions of belonging, origin and literary space, creating a cross-border languagecapable of bringing Africa, Europe and the Americas into dialogue.Cette étude s’intéresse à deux romans d’Alain Mabanckou, Petit Piment (2015) et LesCigognes sont immortelles (2018), pour analyser comment l’auteur inscrit son écriture dansles parlers populaires de Pointe-Noire. Do high and volatile levels of public investment suggest misconduct ? the role of institutional quality
This paper investigates the impact of institutional quality on public investment levels over the period 1984-2008. Moreover, it studies how the volatility of public investment and the quality of infrastructure are affected by institutional quality, and explores the contribution of other critical factors. The findings suggest an inverse relationship between public investment levels and institutional quality, supporting the idea that governments use public investment as a vehicle for rent-seeking or to compensate for the fall in private investment due to the poor business environment. In addition, aid flows, revenues and abundance of natural resources contribute positively to the level of capital spending. The author also finds that high volatility of public investment is associated with a lower quality of governance. An increase in revenues is associated with a reduction in the volatility of capital spending, suggesting that proper macroeconomic management smoothes the investment cycle. Finally, the paper provides some tentative evidence of a positive relationship between institutional quality and the quality of infrastructure.Investment and Investment Climate,Debt Markets,Non Bank Financial Institutions,Public Sector Economics,Emerging Markets
Fiscal decentralization and fiscal performance
A resurgence of recent interest in fiscal federalism has been a source of concern among macroeconomic stabilization experts. They argue that a decentralized fiscal system poses a threat to macroeconomic stability as it is incompatible with prudent monetary and fiscal management. The author addresses these concerns by taking a simple neo-institutional economics with an econometric analysis perspective. His analysis concludes that, contrary to a common misconception, fiscal decentralization is associated with improved fiscal performance and better functioning of internal common markets. Fiscal policy coordination represents an important challenge for federal systems. In this context, fiscal rules and institutions provide a useful framework but not necessarily a solution to this challenge. Fiscal rules binding on all levels can help sustain political commitment in countries having coalitions or fragmented regimes in power. Coordinating institutions help in the use of moral suasion to encourage a coordinated response. Industrial countries'experiences also show that unilaterally imposed federal controls and constraints on subnational governments typically do not work. Instead, societal norms based on fiscal conservatism such as the Swiss referenda and political activism of the electorate play important roles. Ultimately capital markets and bond-rating agencies provide more effective discipline on fiscal policy. In this context, it is important not to backstop state and local debt and not to allow ownership of the banks by any level of government. Transparency of the budgetary process and institutions, accountability to the electorate, and general availability of comparative data encourages fiscal discipline. Fiscal decentralization poses significant challenges for macroeconomic management. These challenges require careful design of monetary and fiscal institutions to overcome adverse incentives associated with the"common property"resource management problems or with rent seeking behavior. Experiences of federal countries indicate significant learning and adaptation of fiscal systems to create incentives compatible with fair play and to overcome incomplete contracts. This explains why that decentralized fiscal systems appear to do better than centralized fiscal systems on most aspects of monetary and fiscal policy management and transparent and accountable governance.Banks&Banking Reform,Economic Stabilization,Public Sector Economics&Finance,Economic Theory&Research,Financial Intermediation
