Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Development of a test method and analysis of the corrosion mechanism of hydrogen-containing atmospheres on refractory materials
Die politischen Ziele zur CO2-Reduzierung in industriellen Prozessen sorgen für einen technologischen Wandel im Bereich der Roheisenerzeugung. Anstelle des Hochofenverfahrens wird Roheisen zukünftig über Direktreduktionsprozesse erzeugt. Diese werden derzeit mit Erdgas betrieben und sollen zur Einhaltung der Klimaziele auf Wasserstoffbetrieb umgestellt werden. In dieser Arbeit wurde der Einfluss von wasserstoffenthaltenden Atmosphären auf derzeit verwendete feuerfeste Werkstoffe aus dem System Al2O3-SiO2 untersucht. Zu diesem Zweck wurde ein Experiment entwickelt, mit dem unter realitätsnahen Prüfbedingungen eine Auslagerung der Feuerfestmaterialien im Labor stattfinden konnte. Unter Berücksichtigung der Atmosphäre, der Temperatur und des Probenmaterials wurden vielseitige praxisnahe Auslagerungsversuche durchgeführt. Durch Anwendung einer umfassenden Analysestrategie konnten an den Materialien relevante Korrosionseffekte in Abhängigkeit von der Gaszusammensetzung beschrieben werden. Die Prüftemperatur lag dabei im Bereich von 716 °C < T < 1150 °C. Zur Untersuchung der Korrosionseffekte wurden physikalische und chemisch-mineralogische Prüfmethoden verwendet. Ergänzend wird die Intensität der Korrosionseffekte basierend auf den verwendeten Gaszusammensetzungen beschrieben. Insbesondere reine Wasserstoffatmosphären führten zu einer starken Gaskorrosion, das Vorliegen von Wasserdampf hemmt die chemischen Reaktionen hingegen. Durch die Mischung von Methan und Wasserstoff kann eine aggressive H2 / CO-Atmosphäre entstehen, bei der es zur Bildung von festem Kohlenstoff kommen kann. Dieses Phänomen verändert die möglichen Schadensursachen für das Feuerfestmaterial, auch der Kristallisationsdruck von Kohlenstoff kann im Gefüge der Feuerfestkeramiken zum Materialversagen beitragen. Des Weiteren konnte durch Kopplung von bildgebenden Analyseverfahren und Elementbestimmung die Folgen der Korrosionsreaktionen beschrieben werden. Es zeigte sich, dass es im Gegensatz zum Meinungsbild innerhalb des allgemeinen Standes der Technik, nicht zu einer ausschließlichen Abnahme des SiO2-Gehaltes kam. In den untersuchten, industriellen Materialien liefen mehrere Reaktionen ab, die lokal zum chemischen Angriff auf SiO2 führten (silikatische Glasphase) und parallel ein Auskristallisieren von Cristobalit bewirkten. Als primäre Korrosionsreaktion im Bereich von 716 °C < T < 1150 °C kann in reiner Wasserstoffatmosphäre der chemische Angriff von Wasserstoff auf die silikatische Glasphase definiert werden. Hinzu wurde die Reaktionskinetik in Abhängigkeit der Temperatur experimentell untersucht und beschrieben. Auf Basis dieser Analysen können Materialeigenschaften definiert werden, die sich für den zukünftigen Einsatz definierter Feuerfestqualitäten innerhalb von Reduktionsprozessen besonders eignen.The political targets for CO2 reduction in industrial processes are leading to a technological change in the area of pig iron production. In future, pig iron will be produced by using the direct reduction process instead of the blast furnace process. Direct reduction plants are currently operated with natural gas, this is to be replaced by hydrogen in the future in order to meet the climate targets. Within this work, the influence of hydrogen-containing atmospheres on currently used refractory materials from the Al2O3-SiO2 system was investigated. An experiment was developed to simulate the corrosion of refractory materials in the laboratory under realistic test conditions. Taking into account the atmosphere, the temperature and the sample material, a variety of practical corrosion tests were carried out. By applying a comprehensive analysis strategy, relevant corrosion effects on the materials were subsequently described as a result of the gas composition. The test temperature was in the range of 716 °C < T < 1150 °C. Physical and chemical-mineralogical tests were used to investigate the corrosion effects. In addition, the intensity of the corrosion effects was evaluated based on the gas compositions used. Pure hydrogen atmospheres in particular led to strong gas corrosion, while the presence of water vapor inhibited the chemical reactions. The mixture of methane and hydrogen can create an aggressive H2 / CO atmosphere, which also can lead to the formation of solid carbon. This phenomenon changes the possible causes of damage to refractory material; the crystallization pressure of carbon inside the structure of the refractory can also contribute to material failure. Furthermore, the corrosion reactions could be described by coupling imaging analysis methods and element determination. It was shown that, in contrast to the general opinion in the state of the art, there was not exclusively a decrease in SiO2-amount. Several reactions took place in the investigated, industrially used materials, which led to the local chemical attack of SiO2 (silicate glass phase) and caused a parallel crystallization of cristobalite. The chemical attack of hydrogen on the silicate glass phase can be defined as the primary corrosion reaction in the range of 716 °C < T < 1150 °C in a pure hydrogen atmosphere. In addition, the reaction kinetics as a function of temperature were experimentally investigated and described. Based on these analyses, material properties can be defined that are particularly suitable for the future use of defined refractory qualities within reduction processes

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
