More than ten years after the global financial crisis, the prospects for a sustained economic recovery remain in jeopardy due to the widespread failure of leaders and policy makers to implement the necessary reforms to support competitiveness and bring the necessary growth in productivity, according to the World Economic Forum. Competitiveness is generated at the macroeconomic level, at the country level and it becomes competitive when it manages to build an efficient development climate for each company, the environment in which they are able to survive and develop in any domestic economic environment, but especially international. The aim of this study is to identify impact factors on the comparative evolution of competitiveness by analyzing the two macroeconomic indicators Gross Domestic Product and Global Competitiveness Index in the two emerging countries - Romania and Poland, in 2015-2020, based on data provided by Eurostat and the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies, respectively by the global competitiveness reports. Gross Domestic Product is the most complex indicator calculated according to the same methodology in all European Union countries. Based on the National Accounts record system, the gross domestic product expresses an appropriate comparability. Also, calculating the gross domestic product per capita and purchasing power parity, there are obtained some indicators that ensure not only comparability to the size of development, but also express the standard of living, the quality of life in the states under analysis. In this study, the structural comparability of the Gross Domestic Product was performed after assessing the stage of economic evolution in each country. The article is accompanied by significant graphics, which highlight the conclusions drawn by the author. It is also analyzed the evolution of the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI), a comprehensive tool that measures the microeconomic and macroeconomic fundamentals of competitiveness. The GCI provides a detailed analysis of the productive potential of national economies

Starting with the 20th century, in Romania, an industry that was to perform, especially during the communist regime, became increasingly strong. The role of industrialization was to turn Romania from a rather agrarian country into a country with an industrial profile. We can say that the communist period was marked by a forced industrialization, which even created an industrial tradition that characterized the centralized economy of the country. Twenty six years ago, the entire industry was wiped out, and only now our country  is considered a Western competitor .Otherwise, we could not export Romanian products to Western countries. Only now people try to recreate the phrase "Made In Romania", a shadow of what was once. Today, after the period of the communist regime characterized by strong industrialization, Romania has become a powerful trade center. This research aims to highlight the evolution of trade activity in Romania, starting with the issue of de-industrialization of Romania and subsequently with the transformation of Romanian economy into a tertiary one, accompanied by the simultaneous development of the economy based on consumption. This article aims to analyze the dynamic evolution of Romania from an industrial perspective, to go through all the stages of evolution for a better understanding of the country\u27s special industrial environment, but at the same time it aims to analyze Romania\u27s dynamic attempt to become a functional body.Starting with the 20th century, in Romania, an industry that was to perform, especially during the communist regime, became increasingly strong. Regional disparities in labor productivity basically explain regions` divergent development path. Education and specialization of labor force are key factors, which are nowadays changing rapidly and have an impact on development. Improved education is usually regarded as a source of productivity increase. The specialization of regions in traditional activities, such as subsistence agriculture, keeps a higher employment rate, but low productivity. During the empirical analysis, we used a series of regression and correlation methods, econometric tests to highlight the link, degree of intensity, and the relationship between education and growth through the use of the Pearson correlation coefficient. Territorial analysis of the employment of less educated people compresses important issues regarding territorial disparities in economic welfare. In particular, the analysis of education in Romania comprises two aspects (in the territorial and European regional context), each of which is structured according to the indicators survey: education level, gross domestic product, adult participation in lifelong learning, employment and the salary level based on information from the Population and Housing Census by making statistical correlations and interpretations

    Education, the Economic Development Pillar

AbstractThe theme approached, starts from the idea that the economic value of education is depending on the degree in which school answers to the real life requirements, from the point of view of the quality of human resource, as well as human capital product. The paper proposes a conceptual-theoretical clarification of essential concepts necessary for direct and indirect understanding, between education and socio-economic development, and how it was shaped over time the economic role of education through human capital and how this was reflected in growth theory and economic development. The results we obtain will lead to the issue of strategies, solutions and measures that will contribute to the development of society and the increase in the quality of life for the population. The proposed analysis points out that investment in human capital have a significant impact on the economic growth of every country, thus we consider human capital to be more important than any natural richness that a nation can have

ANALYSIS OF THE ECONOMIC GROWTH TRENDS IN ROMANIA

Abstract The question: "Why some countries are richer than others?" is a crucial problem that many economists have proposed to answer. Firstly, it should be noted the fact that the economic development is a quantitative and qualitative concept with a much broader area than growth. It is good that we have economic growth and stability but it is not enough to have economic development. Why? While economic growth is measured by a small number of indicators, among which the most important is the growth rate of GDP, the economic growth implies a long-term dynamic equilibrium, a sustainable growth trajectory based on optimal use of all available resources, the continued development of innovative potential and human capital and the development of strong institutions in order to support economic growth. This study aims, by keeping the interdependence of the investigated aspects, to analyze and describe the following dimensions: GDP per capita and the average productivity per hour, the most important issues that have led to changes of GDP, where Romania is classified from the growth point of view. The study includes the results of research, statistical series and arguments about the evolution of GDP based on National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies and the National Bank over the last three years. Finally, the paper proposes a series of lines of action for further sustainable development of our country and reducing the disparities with the EU average

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE GEOGRAPHICAL DISPARITIES REGARDING THE LEVEL OF EDUCATION OF THE POPULATION AND THE LEVEL OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN ROMANIA AND IN THE REGIONAL PROFILE

Throughout this paper we undertook a research which goal is presented by the title, namely to elaborate a comparative analysis of the geographical disparities regarding the level of education of the population and the level of economic development in Romania and in the regional profile. Within the first sections of the paper we present the general coordinates of the framework components: regional economic and education level disparities. The problem of regional disparities has managed to become the most important economic policy in different regions of the EU, in the last two decades. Carrying out these general analyses of the territories in this geographical zone began, especially, after Greece, Spain, Portugal and then Romania joined the EU, states marked by significant regional imbalances, characterized by a low level of development in comparison with the other countries of the EU. Because in the developed countries, the structure of the economy is considered to be a basic condition, which must be taken into account in the process of economic development, we used these variables in order to evaluate the level of regional development and to understand the differences regarding the development between regions. The third section of the paper is presenting the comparative analyses of disparities regarding education in regional context in Romania. The analysis at the regional level of the employment of less educated people compresses important aspects  regarding the regional discrepancies in the economic welfare. Concretely, the analysis of the education in Romania comprises aspects, on the regional plan on the basis of the most representative indicators: the level of education of the population, the participation of adult population in lifelong learning, and the Gross Domestic Product per inhabitant, on a time horizon of 14 years, 2000-2014, by achieving correlations and statistical interpretations. The conclusions reflect that there are very big differences between the Bucharest-Ilfov region and the other regions of the country. Also the final ideas of the paper point out the serious problems the regional development confronts, by identifying these determining factors, they can be corrected more easily by implying massive efforts on a long time span
