Bias of Czech media: the image of Radovan Krejčíř and his activities in the contemporary press
Bachelor thesis Bias of Czech media: the image of Radovan Krejčíř and his activities in the contemporary press analyzes how chosen media informed about events during the escape of Radovan Krejčíř from the Czech Republic in 2005. The quantitative analysis aims to reveal potential journalism methods and working procedures, that could cause, at the end, bias on public. Theoretical part of these thesis focuses on defining the term bias and specifies defined terms, which this study contains. Theoretical concepts kinds of bias are introduced and monitored press is defined. Practical part of this study draws information form monitored periodicals in defined time table and emphasizes on following comparation of analyzed data. The main aim of this study is to find out, how media worked with information and confirm or refute potential bias
Tax Reform in Slovakia
The paper evaluates recent tax legislation in Slovakia, effected January 2004, according to principles of optimal taxation and optimal tax systems. The author evaluates Slovak tax reform with particular regard to personal income tax and commodity taxes. The adoption of a flat personal-income-tax rate and a uniform VAT rate is viewed as in line with the optimal taxation theory, and the projected lessening of administrative costs and degree of tax evasion is positively evaluated.tax reform; flat tax; Slovakia
The Role of Aging on Rheological Properties of Lime Putty
AbstractThe role of aging on rheological properties of lime putties was investigated by rotational rheometry, scanning electron microscopy and particle size distribution analyzes. Disaggregation of large clusters during aging and resulting microstructural enrichment of micron-sized particles was found to be one of the possible reasons for the continuous increment of plasticity and yield stress of lime putties during long-term aging. The extent of thixotropic and rheopectic behavior is affected by both calcination process and microstructure development during aging
Radovan Nikšić: Karlovac - Projects and Realizations; Luka Krmpotić, author of the exhibition
The exhibition under the title “Radovan Nikšić: Karlovac - Projects and Realizations” was mounted by the architect Luka Krmpotić on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of Nikšić’s birth. Radovan Nikšić, Ph.D., the university professor and member of Academy, born in Karlovac, was one of the renowned and most prominent figures of the 20th century Croatian architecture. This exhibition offered an overview of the relatively unknown segment of Nikšić’s architectural work, the one related to the architecture of Karlovac. A range of projects were displayed on this occasion: the designs for 11 residential buildings from the 1950s: residential buildings built for the needs of the Military Post, a residential complex in Kurelčeva St., the competition entry for the Gym Park (1953), a residential building (1954), the design for the Yugoslav Army Centre (1960) and the competition entry for the City Library “Ivan Goran Kovačić” (1971)
Ultramarine – Not Just a Pigment of Traditional Folk Architecture Plasters
AbstractUltramarine is a synthetic analogue of lazurite, so called lapis lazuli. It was applied first of all as a pigment of lime- and gypsum-based plasters of folk architecture. Ultramarine is still used as a pigment of building materials, and, it may act as a non-traditional pozzolanic material as well. The paper describes a laboratory synthesis procedure of blue ultramarine that is derived from historic formulas. Structural, and optical properties and phase composition of laboratory-produced samples were compared to the samples of folk houses plasters and to unused, contemporary and historic industrially-produced ultramarines. The means of powder X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and polarizing optical microscopy were used. The properties of the laboratory-prepared samples were very close to the industrial ones. In the market, the commercially available ultramarines are blue, pink and purple. However, based on published data, it should be possible to produce green ultramarine by the modification of the production process. These colors were not reached during the laboratory experiments, even when the published formulas were precisely followed

Radovan Karadžić ::architect of the Bosnian genocide /
Radovan Karadžić, leader of the Bosnian Serb nationalists during the Bosnian War (1992-5), stands accused of genocide and other crimes of war before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague. This book traces the origins of the extreme violence of the war to the utopian national aspirations of the Serb Democratic Party and Karadžić's personal transformation from an unremarkable family man to the powerful leader of the Bosnian Serb nationalists. Based on previously unused documents from the tribunal's archives and many hours of Karadžić's cross-examination at his trial, the author shows why and how the Bosnian Serb leader planned and directed the worst atrocities in Europe since the Second World War. This book provocatively argues that postcommunist democracy was a primary enabler of mass atrocities because it provided the means to mobilize large numbers of Bosnian Serbs for the campaign to eliminate non-Serbs from conquered land
