The present thesis examines the Greek traditional costume through its artistic depictions by Greek painters of the 19th century and its authenticity is based on the combination between folklore dress and painting. Its objective is to define the locality of the depicted dress with the use of a certain model. With this model, a comparison between the examined artwork paintings and the related available sources is achieved. The model is based on the triangulation of sources, with predefined criteria of the artworks selection, follows a specific methodology and it can be applied for a limitless quantity of examined artworks. Apart from the locality identification, by this application, remarks concerning the general ideological, economical, social and historical framework of that period can be concluded.429 σ

Der griechische Gelehrte Georgios Zachariadis und sein Beitrag zum slawischen Schrifttum im 19. Jahrhundert

Among the Greek scholars who lived during the 19th century in the north-eastern Balkans, and also in Central Europe, and by their work contributed to the spiritual development of the Balkan Slavs, pride of place must be given to Georgios Zachariadis. Unfortunately, however, no detailed monograph on Zachariadis exists. On this account the problems that arise concerning the life and activities of this Greek scholar are still many and varied. In his study the author tries to fill one part of this lacuna. At the beginning of the work the following are examined, on the basis of new historical evidence: the date and place of Georgios Zachariadis’ birth, his studies and tenure as teacher in the Greek school at Zemun, the Serbian school at Šabac, and the Greek school in Vienna. The author continues his study by analyzing the various works of Zachariadis, which are written on Old Church^Slavonic, and the translations this Greek scholar made from Greek into Old Church Slavonic. Finally, the extent of Georgios Zachariadis’ contribution to Slavonic letters is made clear

Among the Greek schools that existed in the Northwestern countries ofthe Balkans during the 18th and 19th cent., the Greek school at Zemun in Yugoslavia is of special mention. The fame of the school attracted not onlyGreeks but Serbian, Bulgarian, and students of other nationalities. The famous Serbian poet Sima Milutinovic-Sarailija had also attended that school. The author, based on new historical evidence, studies in this article thelife and works of Georgios Auxentiadis, one of the first teachers in this school, who was not well known up to the present. Also, in this article are discussedthe system of the school, its curriculum, handbooks used by the students, andthe Greek handbooks which were translated from the Greek into Balkan languages, for the use of the students of the various ethnic groups, attending theschool

A New Framework for the Citation Indexing Paradigm

    No full text
A new citation indexing paradigm is proposed: the cascading citation indexing framework (c2IF, for short). It improves the way research publications are assessed for their impact in promoting science and technology. Given a collection of articles and their citation graph, citations are considered at the (article, author) level. Each one article is uniquely identified by means of the Digital Object Identifier (DOI, http://www.doi.org). To identify each one author uniquely, a Universal Author Identifier (UAI) scheme is established. In addition to the citations directly made to a given (article, author) pair, citation paths that target each one citing article are also considered. The granularity of the paradigm is further increased by introducing the concept of the chord, whereby a citation path of length one co-exists with paths of length two or higher, involving the same source- and target- articles. The c2IF output emerges in the form of a medal standings table, analogous to the one that ranks teams at athletic events: when two (article, author) pairs receive the same number of (direct) citations, the one that is cited by more popular articles (i.e. articles that comprise targets to a larger number of paths in the citation graph), is assigned a higher rank value

When the skin barrier is perturbed, there is a possibility of microbial infiltration and biochemical damage. Ceramides, as essential components of the skin lipid layer, help to maintain the barrier integrity. Decreased content of skin ceramides in epidermis is connected with skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Previous findings of our research group proved that a ceramide analogue with similar steric and hydrophobic parameters to skin ceramides could selectively supplement the recovery of perturbed human skin barrier. The goal of this study was to design a convenient synthesis of ceramide analogues derived from L-serine with two long aliphatic chains. The first chain is amidically bound lignoceric acid and the second chain is either a 10 or a 14 carbon polyfluorinated chain conjugated with the rest of the molecule by an ester bond. Exploring a Mixed Method Approach: Simulation Games and Q Methodology

    No full text
In this paper we explore the possibilities to combine two research methods we regard as being very useful when interacting with stakeholders in complex systems. We discuss a mixed research methods approach, based on the Q methodology and a simulation game. In a game design process, translating the real or reference system into the game design is an intricate process and rather challenging due to the complexity of today’s societal systems. As shown by various studies, different data techniques are proposed in order to translate reality aspects. One of the proposed data gathering techniques in combination with simulation games is Q methodology. Q methodology is a suitable method to retrieve social perspectives of stakeholders on a particular topic. Yet it is still elusive how the results of a Q methodology can be used in a game design process. In this paper, we explore the possibilities how to combine the two methods and how to translate the results of the Q analysis into a game design concept. In the context of a case within the domain of transport and logistics, we discuss how such mixed research methods approach could look like. We conclude with a future outlook on our research.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Policy Analysi
