Intergranular percolation in granular YBCO/BaTiO3 composites
Ferroelectrics and high temperature superconductors are two promising materials for future electronic devices. Both being perovskite ceramic structures with similar crystal chemistry a set of samples were prepared from the composite of (1-x)YBa2Cu307–δ – (x)BaTiO3 (YBCO/BT). These samples were investigated with temperature dependent resistance, FTIR, X-ray diffraction and SEM-EDX analysis. It has been found that the critical exponent in the Tc0 (R = 0) region is in agreement with the percolation theory. A long-range superconducting order results from thermally assisted percolation process through weak-links between the grains. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Here is a genuine find in this sense: I found it without help on the shelves in this fine bookshop near St. Xavier's College in Kolkata. The picture on the cover, including a fox and some grapes, gave me the clue. It is my first book exclusively in Bengali; I have a bilingual copy of Fox Fables that has both Bengali and English. This book features about a dozen full-page black-and-white designs. Among the best of them are The Ethiopian and CW. I cannot give page numbers because those too are in Bengali! Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Causality Between Electricity Supply and Economic Growth in India: An Empirical Investigation
Electricity plays a crucial role in the economy of a country ,especially when the economy of a country is in its developing phase like India .In this study , an attempt has been made to investigate the causality between electricity supply and economic growth in India taking data from 1960-61 to 2006-07 . In order to find out the causal relationship, Granger causality model has been adopted to find whether there is bi-directional or unidirectional causality running from electricity consumption to economic growth or vise versa.
The direction of causation between electricity consumption and economic growth has significant implications. If, for example, there is a unidirectional causality running from economic growth to electricity consumption, it may imply that energy policies may be implemented with little adverse or no effects on economic growth. On the other hand, if unidirectional causality runs from electricity consumption to income, reducing electricity consumption could lead to fall income or vice versa and if there is ‘no causality’ in either direction, the co-called ‘neutrality hypothesis’ would imply that energy policies which do not affect economic growth. However , our results suggest that there exists a unidirectional relationship between electricity supply and economic growth in which electricity act as a catalyst for the further expansion of the economy . In this study , we have incorporated the idea of the existence of a hypothetical environmental Kuznet1 curve for electricity intensity . Our results reveal that there exists Electricity Intensity Kuznet curve in India during 1960-61 to 2006-07 period. The shape of this curve shows an inverted U-shape like Environmental Kuznet Curve ( EKC).
In addition, we have also tried to find out the relationship between electricity supply and economic growth in the major states of India by adopting panel regression model.
For this analysis ,the data for post- reform period from 1990 to 2004 have been used to find the relationship between electricity & growth. While adopting panel regression model across different states of India , it is established that inverse relationship between electricity supply and growth in the backward states, which in turn reduce the intensity, whereas the results are reverse in case of foreword states except Delhi for which the reasons are discussed in this study .
The entire study has been classified in four chapters. Chapter- 1 illustrates the significance of electricity in human life. It also sheds light on changes in the structure of power sector in India .In chapter-2 , the existing literature between electricity supply and economic growth has been thoroughly reviewed.Chapter-3 delineates the set of objectives of the study .In addition , it also discusses different methods which are adopted to accomplish our objective. Last but not the least, the estimated ,results and findings of the study have been discussed in detail in chapter-4
Theoretical considerations for viscoelastic characterization of biomaterials
The mechanical properties of biomaterials need to be known and standardised before design, construction and testing of processing and handling machinery can be undertaken. Since experiments in the past have proved the viscoelastic nature of biomaterials, it is necessary to characterize them in order to ascertain their response to handling and processing. For engineering materials, the application of the theory of viscoelasticity is now quite well knownbut this is not the case for biomaterials. In the characterization of biomaterials it will be necessary to modify the basic theory in the context of the bio-effects. The theoretical considerations are discussed in this study. The various bio-engineering terms are defined and viscoelastic representation with particular emphasis on bio-creep and relaxation is described. An attempt is made to show analogy with the mechanical models and their generalization. Barreleffect for viscoelastic materials of bio-origin is outlined. The shift-factors and their significance as a material property are also included
Model bin as a measuring element of grain pressures
The problems of measuring grain pressures in a grain bin are analysed. The difficulties in measurements in the past are critically studied and an attempt is made to minimise them in the present set-up. The important steps in instrumentation while fabricating and their effect on the results are indicated. The model bin with strain-gages affixed is examined for the measurement of grain pressures. Its use as a proper and convenient measuring element is evaluated. It is found that the electric resistance strain gages for measuring the horizontal and vertical strains in the wall of a cylindrical bin are useful in observing pressure changes of the grain pressures on the wall
