STUDY ON THE SOCIO-POLITICAL IDENTITY OF THE EUROPEAN UNION. THE TOTAL LAW APPROACH OF JOSEPH WEILER
The progressive process of erosion of the European institutional structure, which took place starting from the economic crisis up to the crisis resulting from Brexit, requires careful reflection on the process of European integration, in its historical, political and social conditions.
The research work conducted by the jurist Joseph Weiler, allows to draw a clear appearance of constitutive aspects of the European Community. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, which includes law, economic, political, social and historical sciences, the Author offers an organic synthesis of the origin and directionality proper to the process of European integration. Through the method called, the European Union defines itself through the multiformity of the aspects that compose it.
The present work will propose an analytical synthesis of the most relevant aspects of the Community construction as proposed by the works of Joseph Weiler. By focusing on the identity of the European Union, the ideals laid at the foundation of its institution will emerge as the key to resolving the present process of political and social disintegration. Finally, the legal approach will reveal a spectrum through which all political, social, cultural and historical aspects are expressed in a reciprocal dialogue. Constitutional tolerance becomes the juridico-political synthesis of the social and cultural identity of the European Union, through which it is possible to redefine the reciprocal relations between States and to decline the interest in the common good in a community perspective

Qualità dell’invecchiamento e capacità lavorativa: una mappa concettuale dei fattori chiave dell’equilibrio vita-lavoro in età avanzata
In this contribution, the authors examine the main factors that have prompted both the European Community and national institutions to monitor workers’ health with increasing attention. On the one hand, Europe is facing a demographic shift due to persistently low fertility rates and population ageing. On the other hand, the continued participation of older individuals in the labour market has become crucial for the sustainability of national economies. The dynamics underpinning this issue are multifaceted: labour market structures and welfare policies must evolve to accommodate the needs of an ageing workforce, transitioning from traditional economies of scale to so-called ‘economies of experience.’ Beyond employment, particular attention is placed on the role of the family and, more broadly, on non-working life, which impacts workers both organisationally and psychologically. This initial contribution seeks to provide a conceptual map of the factors that may influence workers’ decisions, with a particular focus on older workers. While not exhaustive, the framework offers a structured overview of what the literature reveals about work-life balance, as well as the personal and policy-level implications of workers’ choices to remain in or exit the labour market
Computational Engineering of Historical Memories
Nanetti outlines a methodology for deploying artificial intelligence and machine learning to enhance historical research. Historical events are the treasure of human experiences, the heritage that societies have used to remain resilient and express their identities. Nanetti has created and developed an interdisciplinary methodology supported by practice-based research that serves as a pathway between historical and computer sciences to design and build computational structures that analyse how societies create narratives about historical events. This consilience pathway aims to make historical memory machine-understandable. It turns history into a computational discipline through an interdisciplinary blend of philological accuracy, historical scholarship, history-based media projects, and computational tools. Nanetti presents the theory behind this methodology from a humanities perspective and discusses its practical application in user interface and experience. An essential read for historians and scholars working in the digital humanities
Trasmissione intergenerazionale e transizione dal lavoro al pensionamento
In this contribution, the authors will discuss the transition from work to retirement as a pivotal phase in the lives of senior workers, influenced by various individual, familial, and social factors. This study aims to thoroughly examine the dynamics that characterize this transition, with a specific focus on the significant role played by intergenerational transmission in retirement decisions. The primary research question revolves around the impact of intergenerational transmission in both anticipating the exit from the labor market through professional succession and retaining senior workers as experts and mentors. To delve deeply into this theme, 62 intergenerational dyadic interviews were conducted, involving elderly individuals aged 75 or older and their respective younger reference persons. The analysis focused on understanding various aspects, including the significance of work for the elderly, the factors that lead to labor market exit, the diverse retirement trajectories, and the effect of significant life events on retirement choices. This life course-based perspective provided a retrospective view of the subjects’ retirement experiences, emphasizing the importance of past life events in shaping retirement decisions. The results of the life story analysis reveal a complex and multidimensional transition to retirement. Various forms of work and retirement emerge, reflecting the flexibility of work and transition experiences in modern society. The analysis highlights key factors influencing retirement decisions, including economic support, family bonding, aging perception, intergenerational transmission, quality of professional relationships, labor market changes, work’s intrinsic value, and engagement in voluntary activities. Particularly, intergenerational transmission emerges as a dual lever, influencing both labor market exit through professional succession and retaining senior workers as experts and mentors. In summary, the multidimensional analysis of retirement choices underscores the pivotal role of intergenerational transmission, which complexly and ambivalently influences the transition from work to retirement. These findings provide a comprehensive overview of the dynamics involved in this critical phase of senior workers’ lives, with significant implications for policies and corporate practices. Based on the results obtained from the retrospective analysis, interviews and focus groups will be conducted to understand the perspectives on retirement of senior workers (over 55), with the aim of identifying which retrospective and prospective factors have the greatest impact on the perception of individual, family, and social well-being
European citizenship as membership: towards which model?
European citizenship poses a definitely problem: the status of European citizen depends on being citizens of one of EU member states. This dependence tend to mask the difference of the two forms of citizenship. The sense of national membership prevails, from a subjective point of view, with respect to the common membership to EU. Through relational sociological analysis of historical and cultural mold will locate the particular characteristics of European citizenship, surpassing the absorption identitarian particularistic model
AN EXPLORATORY RESEARCH ON FAMILY ASSOCIATIONS IN EUROPE
The family associations have a particular importance in the comprehension of those new social subjectivities that are emerging within an increasingly decentralized social fabric from a point of view not only institutional and economic but also epistemic and civil (Donati 1997, 2015). The research conducted so far leave the question open on the new ways of declination of family associations in a supranational horizon. The last few decades have encountered a process of change and differentiation that has affected on different spheres of the social. In particular, the family structure has been increasing complexity and hit by de-institutionalization processes (Di Nicola, Landuzzi 2004; Rossi, Bramanti 2012). At the same time, the spheres of civil society, with the intensification of multi-level and stratified (glocal) governance, have acquired an increasing weight, until to configure a new model of "social citizenship" (Donati 1993). The correlation of those two factors requires a reflection on the speed and quality of these changes. This paper intends to propose the most significant results of an exploratory research on the associative phenomenon of families in Europe, commissioned by the Institute of Anthropology for the culture of the family and of the person at the University Center for Studies and Research on Family (Catholic University of Sacred Heart, Milan). The research involved 100 family organizations, present in different European countries, through the administration of a questionnaire divided into five thematic blocks concerning: general news on the association, data relating to the compiler, the genesis and history of the organizations, the familiarity matrix of the associations, the value orientation of the associations and the responses fielded by the organizations with respect to the most recent challenges affecting the family. The methodology adopted in the analysis of the data is divided into a quantitative dimension (monovariate and multivariate analysis) and a qualitative dimension (content analysis). The results obtained have been reformulated and re-proposed adopting the guiding distinction: the matrix of the organizations' familiarity and the associative reticularity
Transnational Membership and the Fluid Boundaries of a Globalized World. Organized Civil Society and Public Institutions
The changes imposed by globalization on statehood require a rethinking of emerging social categories. Is it possible to identify specific forms of partnership in an increasingly de-contextualized and decentralized context? What role does statehood play in this dimension? In order to answer these questions, we will proceed with the analysis of a particular case – family associations – which intercepts at the same time: the sociality of the subjects involved, national regulation and globalization
