Effects of Social Behaviours in Online Video Games on Team Trust
In competitive multiplayer online video games, teamwork is of utmost importance, implying high levels of interdependence between the joint outcomes of players. When engaging in such interdependent interactions, humans rely on trust to facilitate coordination of their individual behaviours. However, online games often take place between teams of strangers, with individual members having little to no information about each other than what they observe throughout the interaction itself. A better understanding of the social behaviours that are used by players to form trust could not only facilitate richer gaming experiences, but could also lead to insights about team interactions. As such, this paper presents a first step towards understanding how and which types of in-game behaviour relate to trust formation. In particular, we investigate a) which in-game behaviour were relevant for trust formation (first part of the study) and b) how they relate to the reported player's trust in their teammates (the second part of the study). The first part consisted of interviews with League of Legends players in order to create a taxonomy of in-game behaviours relevant for trust formation. As for the second part, we ran a small-scale pilot study where participants played the game and then answered a questionnaire to measure their trust in their teammates. Our preliminary results present a taxonomy of in-game behaviours which can be used to annotate the games regarding trust behaviours. Based on the pilot study, the list of behaviours could be extended as to improve the results. These findings can be used to research the role of trust formation in teamwork.</p
Machine Learning for Software Refactoring: a Large-Scale Empirical Study
Refactorings tackle the challenge of architectural degradation of object-oriented software projects by improving its internal structure without changing the behavior. Refactorings improve software quality and maintainability if applied correctly. However, identifying refactoring opportunities is a challenging problem for developers and researchers alike. In a recent work, machine learning algorithms have shown great potential to solve this problem. This thesis used RefactoringMiner to detect refactorings in open-source Java projects and computed code metrics by static analysis. We defined the refactoring opportunity detection problem as a binary classification problem and deployed machine learning algorithms to solve it. The models classify between a specific refactoring type and a stable class using the metrics as features. Multiple machine learning experiments were designed based on the results of an empirical study of the refactorings. For this work, we created the largest data set of refactorings in Java source code to date, including 92800 open-source projects from GitHub with a total of 33.67 million refactoring samples. The data analysis revealed that Class- and Package-Level refactorings occur most frequently in early development stages of a class, Method- and Variable-Level refactorings are applied uniformly during the development of a class. The machine learning models achieve high performance ranging from 80\% to 89\% total average accuracy for different configurations of the refactoring opportunity prediction problem on unseen projects. Selecting a high Stable Commit Threshold (K) improves the recall of the models significantly, but also strongly reduces the generalizability of the models. The Random Forest (RF) classifier shows great potential for the refactoring opportunity detection, it can adapt to various configurations of the problem, identifies a large variety of relevant metrics in the data and is able to distinguish different refactoring types. This work shows that for solving the refactoring opportunity detection problem a large variety of metrics is required, as a small set of metrics cannot represent the complexity of the problem.http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4267824 Appendix: Data Analysis and Machine Learning Experiments ShowEdit http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4267711 Appendix: Refactoring Data Set ShowEdit https://github.com/refactoring-ai/Data-Collection Repository link Refactoring Mining Tool ShowEdit https://github.com/refactoring-ai/Machine-Learning Repository link Machine Learning PipelineComputer Scienc
""We developed an optimal protocol for studying molecular DNA-protein complexes using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). This technique has been used extensively for the study of biological molecules like DNA. It has a high spatial resolution and analyses performed does not require staining or coating samples. In this work, we used Uracil-DNA glycosylase (UDG), a model protein, and reviewed different sample preparation protocols establishing an optimal protocol for visualizating DNA (λ DNA and plasmids) and DNA-protein complexes. These molecules were deposited onto two substrates, mica and APTES-modified mica (AP-mica). Two methods were used deposition: the conventional method and the method of spin-coating. We conclude mica is a favorable substrate for the obtaining extended and isolated DNA molecules, unlike AP-mica. In regards with the deposition techniques used, the conventional method resulted in inhomogeneous samples and we observed the formation of different DNA superstructures on mica. Inhomogeneities were resolved by spin-coating technique, which allowed us to observe λ DNA-UDG complexes in a reproducible manner. In our experiments, the use of formaldehyde as a crosslinking agent increased the number of λ DNA-UDG complexes observed by AFM. Preliminary results obtained in this work suggest that the mechanism of λ DNA recognition by UDG does not occur by deformation of DNA (a mechanism proposed for other DNA-repair proteins).

This essay aimed at presenting a pedagogical proposal for the work Fantasia de Concerto by Meneleu Campos - a Brazilian composer, born in Bélem do Pará. A study of the work paved the way for a comparison with the standard violin repertoire, thus establishing common technical issues which in turn served as the starting point for the pedagogical proposal. The comparison with the standard repertoire was based on the article “Ousadia e convenção do Segundo Concerto para violino e Orquestra de Camargo Guarnieri” Alvarenga (2000). The pedagogical proposal was based on the book “Practice” (2004) by Simon Fischer. This author offers suggestions on how to work and solve problems found in the standard violin repertoire. Therefore, once the technical difficulties of the Fantasia de Concerto were identified, exercises of a similar nature were devised
