    The 14th Chinese bridge competition was held on 18th of May 2015 at ED 2. This is the 9th year this function has been held here at the university of Nairobi. The competition was attended by the four confucius Institutes that is; Moi university, Kenyatta university,Egerton university and Nairobi university, we were also pleased to have two colleges to join the competition those are Mahanain and CICC colleges. there were over 18 competitors presenting a speech in chinese and showing their talents. The winner was a student from Egerton University with the best talent, and the best performer from the university of Nairobi was Alex. The winners will represent Kenya in China for the International Chinese bridge competitio

    EMPIRICAL VALIDATION OF AN MICRO AND SMALL ENTERPRISES TYPOLOGY: IMPACT OF PERFORMANCE ON MICRO AND SMALL ENTERPRISES IN NAIROBI

    The Micro and Small Enterprises (SMEs) typology suggests competitive business strategies that MSEs can use to overcome the challenges they face and improve their performance. The typology combines strategic alliance (collaboration) and competency (differentiation and low cost) theories. The general objective of this study was the empirical determination of the extent to which the application of business strategies based on the MSE typology is associated with better performance. The study was carried out among Nairobi informal sector MSEs in the manufacturing sector. From the results, the ideal types captured in the typology were supported. In addition, there was partial support of better performance among four of the nine classes of strategies within the typology. These accounted for 64.8 percent of the sampled enterprises. None of the enterprises that did not fit into any of the classes, however, performed better than those that did

    In the dynamic business environment, organizations have implemented Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system solutions to gain competitive advantage and fasten service delivery for value realization. Despite their benefits, ERP solutions have not been fully embraced by SACCOs, and those that have implemented the ERPs are not able to justify the benefits of the investment. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to establish the value realizations for SACCO’s after the implementation of ERP solutions, Nairobi region. Specific objective was to establish the levels of ERP implementation and the value realized by SACCOs through ERP implementation. Questionnaires to the respondents were randomly given on a drop and pick basis. The data collected was to give both quantitative and qualitative results and it was analyzed using descriptive and regression model. It was found out that there was a strong relationship between the implementation level and the benefits of the ERP systems to SACCOs. The recommendation was that ERP systems should be implemented for customer relationship management; education, training and mentorship; monitoring and evaluation; and for research and development and for these reason, SACCOs should invest in the ERP systems

    UoN and Nyandarua County to set up University

    The University of Nairobi (UoN) and Nyandarua County Government will set up a university in Nyandarua. This was revealed when the Governor, Mr. Daniel Waithaka paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi on June 17, 2015. Prof. Mbithi welcomed the initiative noting that UoN will mentor the institution until it is a fully fledged university in accordance with the Universities Act 2012. Already, the university of Nairobi is mentoring Embu University College and Koitaleel Samoei University College towards becoming fully-fledged universities
