    A Game Theoretic Robotic Team Coordination Protocol For Intruder Herding

    Intruder tracking and herding problems are crucial in several applications. In this letter, a game theoretic coordination protocol for multimobile robot systems is proposed to tackle both problems simultaneously. Defender robots move according to computed Nash equilibria to herd the intruder into a safe area while preventing its access to one or more protected areas. The concept of a virtual barrier is presented to induce defenders to automatically and uniformly deploy along the barrier in order to drive intruder away from the protected areas and toward the safe one. Simulation results are reported to validate the proposed approach

    NoStop: An open source framework for design and test of coordination protocol for asymmetric threats protection in marine environment

    NoStop is an open source simulator dedicated to distributed and cooperative mobile robotics systems. It has been designed as a framework to design and test multi–agent collaborative algorithms in terms of performance and robustness. The particular application scenario of a team of autonomous guards that coordinate to protect an area from asymmetric threat is considered. NoStop system is an integrated tool able to both evaluate the coordination protocol performance and to design the team of guards involved in the asymmetric threat protection. Moreover, NoStop is designed to validate robustness of coordination protocol through the use of a remote pilot that control the intruder motion to escape from the guards that monitor the area and accomplish its mission. The project core is a simulation server with a dynamic engine and a synchronization facility. Different coordination protocol can be designed and easily integrated in NoStop. The framework is fully integrated with the Robot Operating System (ROS) and it is completed by a control station where the remote pilot moves the intruder following the guards evolution in a 3D viewer

    Person re-identification (ReId), a crucial task in surveillance, involves matching individuals across different camera views. The advent of Deep Learning, especially supervised techniques like Convolutional Neural Networks and Attention Mechanisms, has significantly enhanced person Re-ID. However, the success of supervised approaches hinges on vast amounts of annotated data, posing scalability challenges in data labeling and computational costs. To address these limitations, recent research has shifted towards unsupervised person re-identification. Leveraging abundant unlabeled data, unsupervised methods aim to overcome the need for pairwise labelled data. Although traditionally trailing behind supervised approaches, unsupervised techniques have shown promising developments in recent years, signalling a narrowing performance gap. Motivated by this evolving landscape, our survey pursues two primary objectives. First, we review and categorize significant publications in supervised person re-identification, providing an in-depth overview of the current state-of-the-art and emphasizing little room for further improvement in this domain. Second, we explore the latest advancements in unsupervised person re-identification over the past three years, offering insights into emerging trends and shedding light on the potential convergence of performance between supervised and unsupervised paradigms. This dual-focus survey aims to contribute to the evolving narrative of person re-identification, capturing both the mature landscape of supervised techniques and the promising outcomes in the realm of unsupervised learning

    Design of an Indoor Autonomous Robot Navigation System for Unknown Environments

    In this work is presented a novel platform able to navigate autonomously in unknown indoor environments. The system has been designed as a framework with different interconnected modules in order to be able to apply the same navigation system to different robotic platforms. The proposed framework is a real–time system developed on board of the robot, without the need of external computing units. The entire system has been tested and evaluated on multi–rotors vehicles with different hardware configurations, evaluating the performance and the quality of the reconstructed map. Experimental results show a promising robust and highly accurate indoor navigation module

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Autonomous 3D Exploration of Large Areas: A Cooperative Frontier-Based Approach

    In this article a coordinated approach to 3D exploration of large uncluttered areas with a team of flying robots with constrained payload is proposed. Coordination is used as trump card for an effective exploration in feasible time and to overcome problems related to the limited computational power and autonomy of the robot platform. In particular, a 3D exploration strategy based on a combination of local and global information and a 4D motion planning are used for achieving 3D coverage of completely unknown environments
