DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING FOR HISTORIC URBAN LANDSCAPE CASE STUDY: BUILDING IN VIA CARACCIOLO NAPOLI

Anticipating the rise and degenerate of the degradation processes for urban landscape, is an area of research that requires the deployment of analysis and forecasting, informed to the impacts induced by climatic and environmental pressures on settlements. Taking into account historic areas, the study focuses upon the need to set up a practice-based research, rethinking the processes of condition's relief, by integrating deterioration data with the prediction of the impact-induced by microclimate processes. The paper introduces as a case study, a nineteenth-century neighborhood in Naples, completed in 1869-80, with the reorganisation of the waterfront, filling the beach and constructing new buildings. The degradation reliefs, on sight and instrumental, carried out with the support of the infrared camera in three different moments of the building life cycle (2002, 2011, 2013), constitutes the knowledge base to relate degenerative phenomena with the constructive, morphological and dimensional characteristics and contextual conditions. The infrared remote sensing, long used through the two-dimensional display of the measurement of irradiation in order to evaluate the performance of the building (to detect insulation defects, thermal bridges, the heat loss through the windows, the humidity) is adopted to bind information about the phenomena taking place in location factors, climatic and environmental conditions. The observation of the related iterated and superimposed effects of decay allows the scheduling of control actions, with the intent to prevent an overrun of critical performance thresholds. A recursive approach characterizes the investigation procedure, based on forecast and verifiability

Built environment functional and technological decay, is often, at the origin of ancient settlements transformation processes. In order to promote sustainble developping and balancing processes, a maintenance approach can be assumed as the cultural premise to face anthropic landscape identity preservation problems. The paper deals with a research experience on built environment management strategies, aimed to the definition of a conceptual model, as a supporting tool devoted to maintenace. Referring to a multiscale approach, the model is based on the acquaintance of environmental and technological data and to their critical organization, in order to describe anthropic settlement identity. Investigating on natural and artificial transformative processes, achitectural characters, constructive traditions, the model gives back an integrated picture of landscape morphology, building typology, constructive lexicon

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Maintenance on measure for the monumental heritage

According to the to the European guidelines of the knowledge based society, rethinking the heritage management calls in cause the reorganisation of the activities of control, inspection, participation, through the redesign of tools and procedures. The paper deals with a heritage management model based on the integration between technologies for monitoring built environment in real time, sharing information and controlling decisions, accessing to degradated elements. Promoting the widening of the decisional approaches that subtend the maintenance participation for the monumental heritage, the paper introduces the idea of exceeding the traditional transfer of scientific disciplinary approaches from the industrial field, based on a corrective and episodic action, in order to assert a "case by case" approach. Taking into account the heritage identity characters, the paper faces with procedural difficulties due to the monumental sites complexity and the absence of information in matter of reliability and durability. Therefore, the study introduces a critical rethinking of the monumental heritage in terms of logistics, procedures of control, instrumentations, assuming the patrimony as a sort of maintenance permanent yard
