Nahida Ruth Lazarus Collection 1894-1904
The collection contains the handwritten manuscript for Nahida Ruth Lazarus's autobiography Ich suchte dich, which was published by Verlag Siegfried Cronbach in 1898. Also included is a handwritten and signed postcard from Lazarus to Arnold Tänzer regarding the health of her husband Moritz Lazarus; a handwritten and signed postcard from Lazarus to Arnold Lazarus with mention of a new book about her husband Moritz Lazarus entitled Lazarus, der Begründer der Völkerpsychologie; and handwritten and signed letter from Lazarus detailing a lecture tour on which she embarked.digitizedNahida Ruth Lazarus was born in Berlin in 1849. She was married first to Dr. Max Remy, who died in 1881. In the late 1880s, she started studying Judaism with Professor Moritz Lazarus. She later converted to Judaism and married Lazarus in 1895. She contributed many essays on history, art, and theatrical criticism, and sociology to the feuilletons of the Vossische Zeitung, Monatszeitung, Westermann's Monatshefte, and other publications. She died in 1928.Arnold Tänzer (also Aaron Tänzer) was born in 1871 in Pressburg, Hungary. He studied at the Pressburg Rabbinerschule, and Oriental philology and history at the University of Berlin (PhD 1895). In 1896, he was called to Hohenems as chief rabbi of Tyrol and Vorarlberg; since 1904, he was rabbi of Meran (Tyrol). He died in 1937 in Göppingen.Arnold Lazarus was born in Breslau in 1877, where his father was principal of the Jewish Theological Seminary. Lazarus passed his rabbinical examination at this seminary while simultaneously studying at the University of Breslau. After teaching religion in Breslau, he was summoned to Frankfurt in 1904, practicing there alongside Rabbi Caesar Seligmann and later with Rabbi Georg Salzberger. He was a field chaplain in World War I. He died in 1932.The original German-language inventory is available in the first folderProcessed for digitizatio
Nahida: In-Band Distributed Tracing with eBPF
Microservices are commonly used in modern cloud-native applications to
achieve agility. However, the complexity of service dependencies in large-scale
microservices systems can lead to anomaly propagation, making fault
troubleshooting a challenge. To address this issue, distributed tracing systems
have been proposed to trace complete request execution paths, enabling
developers to troubleshoot anomalous services. However, existing distributed
tracing systems have limitations such as invasive instrumentation, trace loss,
or inaccurate trace correlation. To overcome these limitations, we propose a
new tracing system based on eBPF (extended Berkeley Packet Filter), named
Nahida, that can track complete requests in the kernel without intrusion,
regardless of programming language or implementation. Our evaluation results
show that Nahida can track over 92% of requests with stable accuracy, even
under the high concurrency of user requests, while the state-of-the-art
non-invasive approaches can not track any of the requests. Importantly, Nahida
can track requests served by a multi-threaded application that none of the
existing invasive tracing systems can handle by instrumenting tracing codes
into libraries. Moreover, the overhead introduced by Nahida is negligible,
increasing service latency by only 1.55%-2.1%. Overall, Nahida provides an
effective and non-invasive solution for distributed tracing
