Investigations on the Polarimetric Behavior of a Target Near the Soil
The polarimetric behavior of the diffracted field from an object located close to the ground is investigated for a varying incidence angle. Here, the field is described by the geometrical theory of diffraction in accordance to its asymptotic formulas. As a result, a ray system composed of 13 different rays was implemented for the monostatic case by applying the principle of Fermat. The different spatial and creeping waves give a physical insight in the mechanisms involved in the entire scattering process. By varying the angle from perpendicular to grazing incidence 0°–90°, geometrical surface shadow boundaries are present for the backscattered field. At such boundaries, the spatial waves are replaced by their corresponding creeping waves, leading to a strong attenuation. The diffracted field for look angles related to the transition zones has a characteristic polarimetric behavior, which can be represented on the PoincarÉ sphere. The typical locations on the sphere can be exploited to get information about the geometrical parameters of the target and its height above the ground

Have you considered writing or editing a book? Sharing lessons learned from publishing the book Designing Engaging and Interactive Synchronous Online Class Sessions
These are the slides from a talk for the Center for Asian Pacific American Women’s Educators Compassion Circle.
Session description:
At our Educators Compassion Circle on February 16, 2023, Matthea Marquart will share about the process of publishing the book Designing Engaging and Interactive Synchronous Online Class Sessions. She co-edited this book with colleagues Lia W. Marshall, Rebecca Y. Chung, and Kristin Garay.
For folks who are thinking about future book-publishing, Matthea will share about:
** The road from thinking about & wanting to write a book, to publishing it
** Deciding on the modality of the book (print vs ebook)
** Choosing a publisher
** The costs of publishing
** Doing a market scan to gauge what books are already out there
** Copyright issues and what you will & won’t be allowed to share freely after publishing
** Collaborating with co-authors or co-editors
** Inviting and working with chapter contributors
** Easing your way into book publishing by becoming a chapter author
** Your responsibilities and options around marketing
This will be an interactive session, with lots of opportunities to share your own experiences with publishing, and to ask questions.
The slides include quotes from Lia W. Marshall, Aparna Samuel Balasundaram, and Christine D. Holmes, and include slide content from Suzan Koseoglu, Royce Kimmons, and Jennifer Ramsey; used with permission.

Perceptions of Members of the American Association of Cereal Chemists Regarding Production of Whole Grain Foods
This study assessed knowledge, attitudes, and normative and barrier beliefs of members of the American Association of Cereal Chemists about the production of whole grain foods. A total of 212 returned questionnaires were used in the analyses. Respondents had a fair knowledge of whole grain foods and positive attitudes about consumer-health and personal/company benefits. Scientific findings provided important normative influences for respondents from academia, while consumer needs and interests were influential for those in industry. Barriers included issues regarding consumer needs as well as beliefs about cost and product quality. Industry respondents may need to see stronger consumer demand before promoting production of whole grain foods.Food Consumption/Nutrition/Food Safety,
STOIC
Stoic is a non-fiction childhood trauma memoir. The theme of loss is explored through the manuscript as the author delves into the family dynamics prior to a devastating car accident and the stark realities afterward. The mother is left a paraplegic as a result of the accident. The story takes place in the 1960s and early 1970s. This is one family's tragedy as told from a child's point-of-view. Set in a post-WWII suburban community, the comparison of relative prosperity and the loss of normalcy are detailed. The author incorporates both her Norwegian and German heritage as the family struggles to cope with an invalid mother. Issues of faith are interwoven throughout the text. Stoic is the story of a loving father and his four children as they care for a paraplegic.</p
