Dimension of the harmonic measure of non-homogeneous Cantor sets
13 pages, 2 figuresWe prove that the dimension of the harmonic measure of the complementary of a translation-invariant type of Cantor sets as a continuous function of the parameters determining these sets. This results extend a previous one of the author and do not use ergodic theoretic tools, not applicable to our case
A new class of spatially homogeneous 4D string backgrounds
A new class of spatially homogeneous 4D string backgrounds, the X(d\rightarrow) according to a recent classification, is presented and shown to contain only five generic types. In contrast to the case of X(d\uparrow) (which contains as a subclass all possible FRW backgrounds), exact SO(3) isotropy is always broken in the X(d\rightarrow) class. This is due to the H-field, whose dual is necessarily along a principal direction of anisotropy. Nevertheless, FRW symmetry can be attained asymptotically for Bianchi-types I and VII_0 in a rather appealing physical context. Other aspects of the solutions found for types X=I,II,III,VI_{-1}, and of the VII_0 case are briefly discussed
On Brownian flights
International audienceLet K be a compact subset of . We choose at random with uniform law a point at distance of K and start a Brownian motion (BM) from this point. We study the probability that this BM hits K for the first time at a distance from the starting point
Positivity of energy for a class of scalar-tensor theories of gravity
It is shown that for a class of scalar—tensor theories of gravity, positivity of the total energy follows from the reasonable requirement that the gravitational coupling which they define is finite, positive and asymptotically constant. The result extends with difficulty to a related unified theory for gravity and the electroweak fields
Protection of patients’ data in e-Health systems: A concise review for Greece and Europe
E-health is a new reality in healthcare and medicine. It is a field that is starting to find application mainly in developed economies but not only. The complexity of modern systems poses new challenges in the management of information and also requires the development of legislation to safeguard citizens. This article highlights this need in a comparative approach setting Greece as a case study in the European environment. Being an ever-growing sector, it is deemed that this system will play a catalytic role in national economies in the following years. At the same time, this essay provides a presentation of current legislation concerning health data protection in Europe and Greece, presented both individually and comparatively. Finally, it examines if further supplements to the current legislation are needed, aiming for higher health data protection levels concerning millions of people involved, either voluntarily or not, in e-health.
