Our treatment strategy for CMC-1 osteoarthritis
Abstract: Osteoarthritis of the carpometacarpal joint of the thumb ( CMC-1) is a common problem and many patients will seek medical attention and may eventually need surgical treatment. As no treatment option has shown consistent superiority, a variety of surgical procedures have been proposed. In this review paper we present our algorithm for the approach of symptomatic CMC-1 osteoarthritis, supported by scientific evidence and our personal experience. It is primarily based on patient demands, status of CMC-1 disease and associated problems around the thumb. The selection of a successful surgical treatment plan with restoration of a pain free and fully functional thumb is the goal. We'll outline the pro's and con's of the surgical procedures and although trapeziectomy has long been the gold standard, the advent of reliable total joint arthroplasties with good short and long-term outcome reports has changed our treatment protocol completely

Custom-made triflanged acetabular components in the treatment of major acetabular defects. Short-term results and clinical experience
We report on the Belgian experience with the aMace® custom-made triflange acetabular component in revision total hip arthroplasty between September 2009 and November 2014. We focused on (1) the complexity of the preoperative planning and reimbursement procedure; (2) the surgical problems and operative experience; and (3) the early outcome. We collected 20 patients’ reviews and 22 surgeons’ reviews, with a mean follow-up of 25 months. The preoperative planning and reimbursement procedures were rated as time-consuming and cumbersome. In 6/22 cases, the operation was difficult or very difficult. Technical problems occurred in 8/22 cases, including problematic fitting in four. However, all aMace® components could be implanted successfully. The mean postoperative Harris Hip Score (HHS) was 68/100; patients’ satisfaction was high and most patients experienced no or mild pain. Complications occurred in 8/22 cases, half of them dislocations. The aMace® implant can provide a solution for complex acetabular revisions. As dislocations were common, the use of dual-mobility cups should be considered. Because of the high cost and the lack of bone stock restoration, we suggest using custom-made triflange acetabular implants only in cases with large cavitational and segmental defects, which would be difficult to reconstruct with alternative methods
Stardust: an Environment for Parallel Programming on Networks of Heterogeneous Workstations
This paper describes Stardust, an environment for parallel programming on networks of heterogeneous machines. Stardust runs on distributed memory multicomputers and networks of workstations. Applications using Stardust can communicate both through message-passing and distributed shared memory. Stardust includes a mechanism for application reconfiguration. This mechanism is used for balancing the load of the machines hosting the application, as well as for tolerating machine restarts (anticipated or not). At reconfiguration time, application processes can migrate between heterogeneous machines, and the number of application processes can vary (increase or decrease) depending on the available resources. Stardust is currently implemented on an heterogeneous system including an Intel Paragon running Mach/OSF1 and a set of Pentiums running Chorus/classiX. ON STARTING OF MONOCYCLIC MOTOR
The probrem in regard to driving of a monocyclic motor is how to choose a static phase converter allowing a satisfactory starting,acceleration and load characteristics. For an ideal operation,the static phase converter should be continuously varied with the velocity of the motor, but in practice it is common that the choice of the static phase converter is to be done when it is started, accelerated and it is being driven at the rated speed. Upon this,the author tried his analysis by means of symmetrical component theory,as shown in Fig. 1, on troque, unbalance factors and the phase current at the time of starting. The results thus obtained,being represented as functions of four parameters without any dimension,could be applied to given rated motors. Therefore the comparison of starting with various kinds of static phase converter became very simple and easy to be done. Among three kinds of combinations of L, C, and R as elements of static phase converter,
the combination where L and C were used was revealed to be most excellent, while a completely balanced state was observed when the impedance angle of the motor was 30°, y=1 and k=2.departmental bulletin pape

The aim of the work is to evaluate the financial situation of "Dambis TC Ltd." and elaborate proposals for improvement and development of the company's financial position. The tasks: 1.Collection and analysis of theoretical materials according to the research topic; 2.The company's operating characteristics; 3.Horizontal and vertical analysis of the company's financial statements; 4.Performing of analysis of the company's financial indicators and bankruptcy forecasting. According to the results of the study it was stated that the main problems in the company activities are concerned lengthy receivables non-payment on the balance and short - term liabilities increase to sole trader “Irisa Zausajeva”; proposals had been formulated for the company to improve these financial indicators in 2018. Analysis of Failing Prolog Executions
The result of a Prolog execution can simply be "no", when the programmer is expecting something else. This symptom is typical of Prolog, and especially requires the help of an execution tracer to get clues of what the problem can be. We present a solution which helps programmers to understand how unexpected failures have occurred. We first propose a hierarchy of failing goals. We argue that there is one kind of leaf failures which is interesting to track at the first place.
