Investigating teaching presence in online discussion forums / Aida Mustapha
The discussion forum is a vital component of online courses. Studies by Berge (1997), Gunawardena et al. (1997) and Garrison et al. (2000, 2001) showed that these asyrtchronous forums have the potential to promote critical thinking, meaningful problem solving, and knowledge construction. This case study investigated how four E-PJJ instructors at UiTM Terengganu Kampus Dungun used their online discussion forums to facilitate online students in their studies. In this study, the researcher looked into the aspects of teaching presence based on the instructors posted messages and compared them with Garrison & Anderson's (2003) teaching presence indicators. The study discovered the discussion forums were under utilized and they were used mainly for class management and assessments handling instead of academic discussions on course contents. This was mainly because online discussions were not .part of the students' assessments. It was also found that non-language forums were more active compared to language forums
The treads of the slavery that suffered a portion of the African population during the slavers’ trade arose since the conquer of America by the Europeans, can be apparent from different views. In the background of the Caribbean Studies, those treads can extend to the Colombian Pacific, place where this paper is focused. Aida Lucía Angulo Díaz is a baby girl born in Buenaventura, the most important commercial harbour over the Colombian Pacific region, and being the author named her godmother, this fact allows her to put in an analysis the multiplicity of elements that make complex the reparation processes of the African memory of the ancestors of her goddaughter and her social environment. The text is an analysis about how much is possible the African reparation in a population with a clear evidence of African roots, where also cultural elements of the societies that have excluded them, as the catholic baptism, are strongly established in them. Being the catholic baptism a cultural practice that belongs to the European societies, the text constitutes a game between the simple and the complex, between the immediate and the long terms’ processes, between the present and the past, between the academic and the quotidian, between the own interests and the somebody’s else. That’s because this is also a text of auto reflexive kind, being the author unavoidably immerse in all that complexity that she refers in her analysis.Pregrad

The angry, abusive and controlling men in K.S. Maniam’s short story ‘Mala’ / Nurhafizah Ali, Mazni Muslim and Aida Mustapha
The fight against sexism has been going on for decades. However, women in the present society still experience gender and social injustice, domestic violence, and sexual harassment on a daily basis. In many cases, conservative families with patriarchal values become a breeding ground for sexism and gender discrimination against women. The bitter reality of sexism and foul treatment experienced by women are exposed through Maniam’s short story ‘Mala’. This study seeks to examine the male characters’ behaviour, attitude, and treatment towards Malati, the main protagonist of the story – and how she deals with the treatment she receives from them. The analysis reveals that the female protagonist is suppressed by her father during childhood, emotionally abused and exploited for free labour by her husband after marriage and oftentimes harassed by her male clients at her workplace. The ill treatment, exploitation, and harassment she receives from men around her from a young age impact her mental health, thus in turn leave her with the feelings of numbness and unworthiness for the rest of her life
Application of Matrix Equations in the Aida Method
The article presents the problem of a decision-making process based on the method known as the analysis of interconnected decision areas (AIDA). Author described the basic assumptions of the AIDA method and the classic method of its implementation with the usage of a decision tree. Crucially, the new and innovative improvement in development of the AIDA method is connected with the replacement of the decision tree by the matrix equation to speed up the cost assessment of decision variants
