Analytical approaches to physicochemical characterization of colloid drug carriers
Der Einsatz von kolloidalen Trägern bei der Arzneimittelverabreichung wächst seit Jahrzehnten. Auf dem Gebiet der Pharmazie schaffte das einen Bedarf nach besserem Verständnis von physikalischen und physiko-chemischen Eigenschaften solcher, oft komplexen, kolloidalen Systeme. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist dieses Verständnis zu fördern und neue, einfache Techniken zu etablieren, die für die Entwicklung und Charakterisierung von kolloidalen Arzneimittelträgern nützlich sind. Kapitel 1 enthält eine kurze Einführung. Im Kapitel 2 wird ein neuer Ansatz zur Analyse potenziometrischer Daten vorgeschlagen. Solche Daten werden beispielhaft an Suspensionen von arznei-mittelbeladenen Lipidvesikeln erklärt und illustriert. Unser Model berücksichtigt erstmalig korrekt die elektrostatische, Coulomb’sche Wechselwirkung, die gemeinsam mit der hydrophoben Wechselwirkung für Verbindung zwischen Arzneimittelmolekülen und den Trägern sorgt. Kapitel 3 befasst sich mit der Transformation von Vesikeln in die Mizellen, die aus Phosphatidylcholin–Cholat-Gemischen bestehen, und zwar unter besonderer Berücksichtigung von Krümmungseffekten in der Lipiddoppelschicht. Das resultierende Bild der Vesikel-Mizellen-Transformation ist reicher und komplexer als zuvor bekannt. Im Kapitel 4 untersuche ich die Möglichkeit der Verwendung von UV/Vis Spektroskopie zur Charakterisierung von submikroskopischen Arzneimittelträgern, wie zum Beispiel Lipidvesikeln. Meine Ergebnisse implizieren, dass die experimentellen Trübheitsspektren ausreichende Information enthalten, um daraus schnelle, genaue und viskositätsunabhängige Charakteristika von submikroskopischen Teilchen ableiten zu können. Die fortschrittlichen analytischen Methoden, die im Rahmen dieser Arbeit entwickelt und untersucht wurden, eignen sich gut für die Anwendung in der pharmazeutischen Forschung und in der Qualitätskontrolle aber auch zur Charakterisierung von kolloidalen Trägern im Allgemeinen.von Mustafa Mohammed Abdelaziz Elsaye
The impact of positive psychological resources on career success among academic staff in Sudan / Mohammed Mustafa Mohammed Yousif Fadul
Career success is important in shaping individual vocation’s identity. Different individual will have various perceptions about their career accomplishment; whether they feel successful or otherwise. This research aims to investigate the impact of positive psychological resources on career success among academic staff in public universities in Sudan. This due to the importance of career success in contributing to both individual’s performance and organisational growth. The research is guided by protean career theory (PCT), conservation of resource theory (COR), and self-determination theory (SDT) for explaining the theoretical framework. On the other hand, the conceptual framework informed by protean career orientation (PCO) as an independent variable, career adaptability (CAA) and psychological capital (PsyCap) as mediator variables,
academics’ career success as the dependent variable, and Islamic work ethics (IWE) as a moderator. Data were collected from 398 academic staffs who work in public universities in Sudan using a drop-off and pick-up survey method. Data were analysed by using Smart-PLS and PROCESS macro software. The results revealed that PCO, CAA, and PsyCap were significantly related to academics’ career success. Additionally, the results emphasised that CAA and PsyCap mediate the relationships between PCO and academics’ career success. However, the moderated-mediation of IWE is not found in through the career adaptability path. This research provides implications both theoretically and practically including to the leaders in the universities to recognise PCO and psychological resources as important attributes to increase the level of academics’ motivation, and strength in order to determine their career success. Finally, the limitations of this research are discussed, and the directions for future research are suggested
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Generation of q-switched and soliton mode locked pulses with 8-hydroxyquinolino cadmium chloride hydrate and chromium aluminum carbide saturable absorber / Mustafa Mohammed Najm
This thesis describes the fabrication of new saturable absorber (SA) devices based on 8-Hydroxyquinolino cadmium chloride hydrate (8-HQCdCl2H2O) and chromium aluminum carbide (Cr2AlC) materials and test them in a ring-cavity Erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) for Q-switching and mode-locking applications. This study aims to develop an efficient and low-cost Q-switched and mode-locked fiber lasers operating in the nanosecond and picosecond regime, respectively using the newly developed SAs. The SAs are fabricated first using mechanical exfoliation and thin film methods, their physical, chemical, and optical characteristics are then investigated. The modulation depth of the exfoliated 8-HQCdCl2H2O on scotch tape, 8-HQCdCl2H2O thin film and Cr2AlC thin film are obtained at 11 %, 18 % and 3.2 %, respectively, indicating their suitability for Q-switching and mode-locking applications. Subsequently, the ring cavity is constructed using an Erbium-doped fiber as the gain medium, and the prepared SA is integrated and optimized into the laser cavity for Q-switched nanosecond and soliton pulse generations. Much time is then spent trying to optimize the cavity and utilize the 8-HQCdCl2H2O and Cr2AlC SAs successfully. The nanosecond pulse generation was successfully realized using the 8-HQCdCl2H2O or Cr2AlC film as SA. The Q-switched laser produced 726 ns pulses with a repetition rate of 150 kHz at pump power of 167 mW with 8-HQCdCl2H2O thin film. By optimizing EDFL cavity, mode-locked pulse train operating in 1.5 μm region with a pulse width within picosecond to femtosecond regime was successfully realized using the newly developed 8-HQCdCl2H2O and Cr2AlC SAs. These SAs successfully used to demonstrate different mode locked pulses in different EDFL cavities. For instance, femtosecond soliton pulses were obtained in the 33 m EDFL cavity. The laser produced a soliton pulse with the full width at half-maximum (FWHM) of 950 fs at a repetition rate of 5.6 MHz. These fiber lasers have many potential applications in various fields including biomedical imaging, material processing, and optical communication
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
