Ingestion of multiple magnetic beads in a child
Foreign body ingestion is a common problem in children due to their tendency for exploring these objects in their mouth. Most ingested foreign bodies pass without any problems, but certain objects like pins and nails may be dangerous. The tendency of ingested multiple magnetic beads to attract each other results in significant morbidity and mortality even in the face of its high prevalence.Modes of presentation after multiple magnet ingestion vary, making diagnosis difficult, especially when there is no eye witness to the act of ingestion

Most of José Watanabe’ poetry is surrounded by the subject of the body. The idea of corporeality is presented, on the one hand, in the theme of the evanescence of life that shows a dissolute, ethereal, or volatile body; and on the other, in the mirror opposed to itself, that is, the persistent existence of the body as present matter, as a reality that occurs in a time and in a visible space. Taking this as a starting point, we want to make a thematic review through the poetic work of the Peruvian author, marking the emphasis on three of his books: Cosas del cuerpo (1999), Antígona (2000) and La piedra alada (2005).Casi la mayor parte de la poesía de José Watanabe está rodeada por el tema del cuerpo.
Switching to normal diet reverses kwashiorkor-induced salivary impairments via increased nitric oxide level and expression of aquaporin 5 in the submandibular glands of male Wistar rats
Kwashiorkor, a form of malnutrition has been shown to cause impaired salivary secretion. However, there is dearth of information on mechanism that underlies this complication. Also, whether returning to normal-diet after kwashiorkor will reverse these complications or not is yet to be discerned. Thus, this study aimed at assessing the mechanisms that underlie kwashiorkor-induced salivary impairments and to evaluate the effects of switching back to normal-diet on kwashiorkor-induced salivary impairments. Weaning rats were randomly divided into 3 groups (control, kwashiorkor, re-fed kwashiorkor) of 7 rats each. The control had standard rat-chow while the kwashiorkor group (KG) and re-fed kwashiorkor group (RKG) were fed 2% protein-diet for 6 weeks to induce kwashiorkor. The RKG had their diet changed to standard rat-chow for another 6 weeks. Blood and stimulated saliva samples were collected for the analysis of total protein, electrolytes, amylase, IgA secretion rate, leptin and ghrelin. Tissue total protein, nitric oxide level, expressions of Na+/K+-ATPase, muscarinic (M3) receptor and aquaporin5 in the submandibular glands were also determined. Data were presented as mean Âą SEM and compared using ANOVA with Tukeyâ s post-hoc test. RKG showed improved salivary function evidenced by reduced salivary lag-time, potassium, with increased, flow rate, sodium, amylase, IgA secretion rate, leptin, submandibular nitric oxide level and aquaporin5 expression compared with KG. This study for the first time has demonstrated that kwashiorkor caused significant reduction in salivary secretion through reduction of nitric oxide level and aquaporin5 expression in submandibular salivary glands. Normal-diet re-feeding after kwashiorkor returned salivary secretion to normal. The accepted manuscript in pdf format is listed with the files at the bottom of this page. Oral fetus-in-fetu: A case report
AbstractFetus-in-fetu is a rare condition, less than 200 cases have been reported. Its embryopathogenesis is linked to a monozygotic, diamniotic parasitic twin. The presence of a calcified vertebral column and other body parts are key to the diagnosis, and differentiate it from a teratoma. We report a case of a neonate who was admitted immediately after delivery by Caesarian section following a prolonged obstructed labor caused by a huge mass projecting from the hard palate. The mass had identifiable malformed body parts but was anencephalic. Intraoperative findings were a short stalk and cleft of the soft palate. He had excision of the mass and did well post operatively. Persistent mouth breathing and difficult nasal cannulation lead to request for post operative magnetic resonance imaging which showed patent nostrils and absent residual mass. Prompt and skillful anesthesia and surgical intervention assisted in the survival of this patient
No terceiro capítulo, o interesse é demonstrar que nesta extensa narrativa de Angela Carter, as representações estão presentes e produzem o clima de espetáculo, fazendo do romance um verdadeiro circoThe present work presents an analysis of the novel Nights at the circus (1984), by the English writer Angela Carter, above all approaching the main character, Fevvers. In the first chapter we briefly deal with the writer´s life and work, and also with the critical works produced about the novel. Still in this chapter, we try to analyze some of the terminology related to Carter´s production, such as magic realism, post-modernism and feminism, taking as reference studies already done. In the second chapter, we use theories about symbology. The interest is to analyze some of the symbols which appear in the novel and are important during the reading because they let implicit some of the meanings that the author wants to transmit. In the third chapter the interest is to demonstrate that in this long Carterian narrative the representations are present and produce the spectacle mood, turning the novel into a real circu
