    Beyond multimedia adaptation: Quality of experience-aware multi-sensorial media delivery

    Multiple sensorial media (mulsemedia) combines multiple media elements which engage three or more of human senses, and as most other media content, requires support for delivery over the existing networks. This paper proposes an adaptive mulsemedia framework (ADAMS) for delivering scalable video and sensorial data to users. Unlike existing two-dimensional joint source-channel adaptation solutions for video streaming, the ADAMS framework includes three joint adaptation dimensions: video source, sensorial source, and network optimization. Using an MPEG-7 description scheme, ADAMS recommends the integration of multiple sensorial effects (i.e., haptic, olfaction, air motion, etc.) as metadata into multimedia streams. ADAMS design includes both coarse- and fine-grained adaptation modules on the server side: mulsemedia flow adaptation and packet priority scheduling. Feedback from subjective quality evaluation and network conditions is used to develop the two modules. Subjective evaluation investigated users' enjoyment levels when exposed to mulsemedia and multimedia sequences, respectively and to study users' preference levels of some sensorial effects in the context of mulsemedia sequences with video components at different quality levels. Results of the subjective study inform guidelines for an adaptive strategy that selects the optimal combination for video segments and sensorial data for a given bandwidth constraint and user requirement. User perceptual tests show how ADAMS outperforms existing multimedia delivery solutions in terms of both user perceived quality and user enjoyment during adaptive streaming of various mulsemedia content. In doing so, it highlights the case for tailored, adaptive mulsemedia delivery over traditional multimedia adaptive transport mechanisms

    Situated Poetry Learning Using Multimedia Resource Sharing Approach

    [[abstract]]Educators have emphasized the importance of situating students in an authentic learning environment. By using such approach, teachers can encourage students to learn Chinese poems by browsing content resources and relevant online multimedia resources by using handheld devices. Nevertheless, students in heterogeneous network environments may have different requirements for the resource subject, type, size, etc. The central issue of this study is how to locate appropriate resources to support situated learning based on user context. In an attempt to solve the primary concern, this study proposes a context-based dialogue approach with which students may interact to retrieve adequate poems and multimedia resources. The Poetry Multimedia Resource Index is the basis for the retrieval, which consists of outer lexical resources, multimedia resource information, and Chinese poems. A prototype system has been conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the approach. The experimental group adopts the situated learning method by using this system, while those in the control group adopt the situated learning method by using textbooks. It is found that our approach can be significantly beneficial to promote students’ learning achievements. The majority of students are satisfied with the proposed system and the teacher participant showed a positive attitude toward this system

    User-author centered multimedia building blocks

    The advances of multimedia models and tools popularized the access and production of multimedia contents: in this new scenario, there is no longer a clear distinction between authors and end-users of a production. These user-authors often work in a collaborative way. As end-users, they collectively participate in interactive environments, consuming multimedia artifacts. In their authors' role, instead of starting from scratch, they often reuse others' productions, which can be decomposed, fusioned and transformed to meet their goals. Since the need for sharing and adapting productions is felt by many communities, there has been a proliferation of standards and mechanisms to exchange complex digital objects, for distinct application domains. However, these initiatives have created another level of complexity, since people have to define which share/ reuse solution they want to adopt, and may even have to resort to programming tasks. They also lack effective strategies to combine these reused artifacts. This paper presents a solution to this demand, based on a user-author centered multimedia building block model-the digital content component (DCC). DCCs upgrade the notion of digital objects to digital components, as they homogenously wrap any kind of digital content (e.g., multimedia artifacts, software) inside a single component abstraction. The model is fully supported by a software infrastructure, which exploits the model's semantic power to automate low level technical activities, thereby freeing user-authors to concentrate on creative tasks. Model and infrastructure improve recent research initiatives to standardize the means of sharing and reuse domain specific digital contents. The paper's contributions are illustrated using examples implemented in a DCC-based authoring tool, in real life situations.124176340342

    Abstraksi : Lembaga Pendidikan terbagi menjadi dua yaitu lembaga pendidikan formal dan non formal, kini makin banyak lembaga pendidikan non formal yang berdiri dan berlomba-lomba untuk mendapatkan calon mahasiswa, berkaitan dengan hal tersebut profil lembaga pendidikan menjadi salah satu instrumen penting yang ikut berperan dalam memperkenalkan keberadaan lembaga tersebut ke masyarakat umum.Berbagai macam cara digunakan untuk mensosialisasikan profil lembaga pendidikan dalam ini Akademi Kebidanan Mitra Husada Karanganyar. Teknologi informasi berbasis multimedia mempunyai peran penting dalam bidang pemasaran dan cara untuk mempermudah penyampaian informasi baik dalam bentuk audio maupun visual. Akademi Kebidanan Mitra Husada Karanganyar belum memiliki video profil yang berbasis multimedia sebagai media sosialisasi akademi tersebut. Tujuan yang ingin dicapai dalam skripsi  ini adalah untuk menghasilkan video profil Akademi Kebidanan Mitra Husada Karanganyar yang berbasis multimedia sebagai media promosi dan dokumentasi. Adapun manfaat penelitian ini adalah sebagai dokumentasi serta media promosi dan informasi tentang Akademi Kebidanan Mitra Husada Karanganyar.     Abstract : In Surakarta University, many Indie movies and many variants of video clip have been produced, but there is no research on the video clip production with multimedia-based multiplex concept. This presence of multimedia-based audio video clip production of song “Terlalu Lama” can increase the vocabularies of video clip produces by Surakarta University.The problem statement of research was that there was no video clip production with multimedia-based multiplex concept in Surakarta University. The objective of research was to increase the vocabularies of video clip references with multimedia-based multiplex concept in Surakarta University. The benefit of research was to give education touch to audio visual realm in Surakarta University to vary the vocabularies of literatures, to be the reference in producing video clip, and to improve Indonesian intellectuality. The research methodologies employed were library research, observation, interview, designing, implementation and documentation. The procedure of video clip production included Pre-Production, Production and Post-production process.The production of audio video clip of song “Terlalu Lama” with multimedia-based multiplex concept was expected to inspire and to be the reference in the production of video clip among civitas and clip maker generally. Abstraksi : Di Universitas Surakarta dapat dikatakan telah banyak  produksi film indie, video klip dengan berbagai macam varian, tetapi sampai saat ini belum ada penelitian tentang pembuatan video klip  berkonsep multiplex dengan berbasis multimedia. Dengan adanya produksi audio video klip lagu “Terlalu Lama” berbasis multimedia ini dapat menambah varian khasanah  pustaka video klip yang diproduksi oleh Universitas Surakarta. Masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah masih belum adanya produksi video klip berkonsep multiplex dengan berbasis multimedia di Universitas Surakarta. Tujuannya menambah khasanah referensi video klip berkonsep multiplex yang berbasis multimedia di Universitas Surakarta. Manfaat dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memberikan sentuhan pendidikan di dunia audio visual Universitas Surakarta agar lebih bervariasi khasanah dunia pustakanya, menjadi media acuan dalam membuat video klip,sekaligus untuk meningkatkan intelektual bangsa Indonesia.Metodologi penelitian yang digunakan adalah kepustakaan, observasi, wawancara, perancangan, implementasi dan dokumentasi. Perumusan langkah-langkah  pembuatan video klip terdiri dari proses pra produksi, produksi, dan pasca produksi.Pembuatan audio video klip lagu “Terlalu Lama”  berkonsep multiplex dengan berbasis multimedia diharapkan dapat menjadi inspirasi serta acuan untuk pembuatan video klip bagi kalangan civitas dan klip maker pada umumnya.Kata kunci : Multimedia, video kli
