Ritual Raacho Dance to Prevent Harm from the Village

    No full text
I am Muhammad Shafi from Jalalabad. It has been 55 years since I came here to Barmas, and I have been living here ever since. In the old days, we had a tradition called raacho, in which we would play the drum for a man dance. We performed this ritual to prevent any harm from coming to the area and to ward off calamities. The day before, the boys would go and bring juniper and place it on a large rock. Then everyone would bring a mixture of different fruits ushaar from their homes and gather it in one place. One person would play the drum, and all others would dance together. After finishing this gathering, people would distribute the ushaar among the participants, and everyone would eat it. The next day, a spiritual healer danyal would come from the lower village, dancing all the way to the raacho rock and people would bring a sheep to be sacrificed. They would dance and sing, and everyone would enjoy. After that, they would place a target at a distance and shoot at it. Whoever hit the target would receive two portions of meat, and everyone else would get one portion each. One time, one of our relatives hit the target but refused to take the two portions. After completing this ritual, everyone would return to their homes.2.5.9.

DESCRIPTION OF BREVIBACTERIUM HANKYONGI SP. NOV. Brevibacterium hankyongi (hank.yong′ i. N.L. gen. n. hankyongi pertaining to Hankyong National University, Republic of Korea, where taxonomic studies of this taxon were performed). Cells are Gram-positive, strictly aerobic, non-motile and rod shaped (0.3–1.0 µm wide; 1.3–2.8 µm long). Colonies grown on R2A agar plates for 2 days are smooth, convex, opaque and milky-white to creamy in colour. Positive for catalase and oxidase activities. Growth occurs at 18–42 Ǫ C and pH 6.0–7.0 with 0–6.0 % NaCl (w/v). Does not grow at 15 and 45 Ǫ C. Optimum growth occurs at 30 Ǫ C and pH 6.5 without NaCl (w/v) supplement. In the API 20NE and ZYM kits, enzyme activity results are positive for alkaline phosphatase, esterase, leucine arylamidase and cystine arylamidase, and negative for nitrate reduction, indole production, glucose acidification, arginine dihydrolase, urease, b- glucosidas, a- galactosidase, b- galactosidase, b- glucuronidase, a- glucosidase, b- glucosidase, N -acetyl-b- glucosaminidase, a- mannosidase, a- fucosidase, trypsin, a- chymotrypsin, acid phosphatase, naphthol-AS-BIphosphohydrolase, valine arylamidase, esterase lipase and lipase. In the API 20NE and 32GN kits, positive assimilated compounds are: malate, citrate, phenyl-acetate, propionate, caprate, 3-hydroxy-butyrate, 4-hydroxy-benzoate, 5-ketogluconate, L- histidine, L- rhamnose, N - acetyl-D- glucosamine, sucrose, maltose, suberate, L- alanine, glycogen, 3-hydroxybenzoate and L- serine, and negatively assimilates: acetate, lactate, malonate, itaconate, D- ribose, inositol, L- proline, 2-ketogluconate, salicin, melibiose, L- fucose, D- sorbitol, D- mannitol, D- glucose, L- arbinose, D- mannose, maltose, gluconate, caprate and adipate. The quinones are MK-8(H 2) and MK-7(H 2), and anteiso-C 15: 0, anteiso-C 17: 0, iso-C 16: 0 and iso-C 15: 0 are the major cellular fatty acids. The major polar lipids is phosphatidylglycerol. The peptidoglycan of strain BS05 T contains the amino acid meso -diaminopimelic acid. 15: 0 The type strain, isolated from sea water, Jeju Island, Republic of Korea, is BS05 T (=KACC 18875 T =LMG 29562 T). The DNA G+C content of the type strain is 62.3 mol%.Published as part of Choi, Kang Duk, Siddiqi, Muhammad Zubair, Liu, Qingmei, Muhammad Shafi, Siddiqi, Durrani, Yasser, Lee, Soon Yeol, Kang, Myung-Suk & Im, Wan Taek, 2018, Brevibacterium hankyongi sp. nov., isolated from compost, pp. 2783-2788 in International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology 68 (9) on pages 2786-2787, DOI: 10.1099/ijsem.0.002886, http://zenodo.org/record/622380

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
