Pribitzer S, Sajid M, Huelsmann M, Godt A, Jeschke G. Pulsed triple electron resonance (TRIER) for dipolar correlation spectroscopy. JOURNAL OF MAGNETIC RESONANCE. 2017;282:119-128.A new pulse sequence is presented for correlating dipolar frequencies in molecules with more than two paramagnetic centers. This triple electron resonance experiment (TRIER) is an extension the double electron-electron resonance (DEER) experiment, which is widely used for distance determination in the nanometer range. We use linear chirp pulses with smoothed edges to create a refocused observer echo, and two hyperbolic secant pulses with distinct excitation windows to excite two other subsets of spins. These pumped spins are coupled to the observed spin through the dipole-dipole interaction. A two-dimensional dipolar modulation pattern is recorded by variation of the position of the two pump pulses. By two-dimensional Fourier transform of the echo integral, a plot is obtained that correlates dipolar frequencies within the same molecule. Such correlation patterns can be used in conjunction with DEER, with which distance distributions are usually determined for several doubly labeled molecules with different spin-labeling sites. In the presence of two conformers, DEER traces give two distances and assignment to an individual conformer is not trivial and usually requires a trial and error approach. TRIER can potentially provide the missing connection between distances as correlations between dipolar frequencies. (C) 2017 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved

X-ray image analysis for dental disease: A deep learning approach using EfficientNets

Dental cavities are a highly common persistent dental problem that impacts populations across different age groups on a global scale. It is crucial to get a dental issue diagnosed as early as possible and with as much accuracy as possible to treat it efficiently and prevent any related issues. If a dental infection is not treated, it will eventually grow and cause tooth loss. Dental X-ray images are crucial and beneficial in the diagnostic process of dental diseases for dentists. By applying Deep Learning (DL) techniques to dental X-ray images, dental experts can efficiently and precisely etect dental conditions, including dental cavities, fillings and implants. The objective of this research is to assess the performance of DL-based methods for dental disease detection via panoramic radiographs. In this study, we evaluated the performance of all of the EfficientNet variants (e.g., EfficientNets B0-B7) to determine which one is the most effective model for detecting dental disease. Moreover, we utilized the Borderline Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) to cope with the issue related to the minority classes contained in the dataset. To assess the efficacy of the model, various metrics are employed, including recall, accuracy, precision, loss, and F1-score. As a result, the performance of the EfficientNet-B5 model was superior to that of the other EfficientNet models. The EfficientNet-B5 model achieved the following values for its metrics: F1-score, accuracy, recall, AUC, and precision: 98.37%, 98.32%, 98.32%, 99.21%, and 98.32%, respectively. The accuracy rates for the EfficientNet-B0, EfficientNet-B1, EfficientNet-B2, EfficientNet-B3, EfficientNet-B4, EfficientNet-B6, and EfficientNet-B7, are 91.59%, 94.12%, 93.28%, 85.71%, 94.96%, 96.64% and 90.76%, respectively. The results indicated that the EfficientNet-B5 model performs better than other EfficientNet classifiers, which supports dental professionals significantly in the recognition of dental diseases

An Adaptive Strategy for Wind Speed Forecasting Under Functional Data Horizon: A Way Toward Enhancing Clean Energy

An important issue in competitive energy markets is the accurate and efficient wind speed forecasting for wind power production. However, wind speed forecasting models developed for one location usually do not match the other site for various reasons like changes in terrain, different wind speed patterns, and atmospheric factors such as temperature, pressure, humidity, etc. Thus, introducing a flexible model that captures all the features is a challenging task. This paper proposes a functional data analysis (FDA) approach to forecast the site variant wind daily profiles with higher accuracy. Unlike the traditional methods, the FDA is more attractive as it forecasts a complete daily profile, and thus, forecasts can be obtained in the ultra-short period. To this end, the wind speed data is first filtered for extreme values. The filtered series is then divided into deterministic (Component-I) and stochastic (Component-II) components. Component-I is modeled and forecasted based on the generalized additive modeling technique. On the other hand, Component-II is modeled and forecasted using functional models such as functional autoregressive (FAR) and FAR with explanatory variables (FARX). For comparison purposes, forecasts from the traditional univariate autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA), seasonal ARIMA (SARIMA), SARIMA with exogenous information (SARIMAX), and neural network autoregressive (NNAR) models are also obtained. For empirical analysis, the wind speed data are obtained from the NASA power project for the site Canada located in Durham, England, and one-day-ahead out-of-sample forecasts are obtained for a complete year. The forecasting performance of different models is assessed through different accuracy measures, namely mean error, root mean squared error, mean absolute error, and mean absolute standard error. The results indicate that the functional models outperform the classical ARIMA, SARIMA, SARIMAX, and a deep learning model, NNAR. Within the functional models, the forecasting ability of the FARX is superior to FAR

This research aims to analyze community empowerment in a mosque based on the perspective of Maqosid Syariah. This study uses a single case study at a mosque, specifically KH. Muhammad Sajid Mosque. Several mosque administrators and the congregation became informants to understand the concept of empowerment in this mosque. This study formulates Maqosid Sharia-based empowerment that contains religious and spiritual values as a form of devotion oriented to God to create and distribute welfare and added value to the congregation, administrators, community, and surrounding environments. This research will integrate empirical data on empowerment with Maqosid Sharia concepts and theories. This concept can be applied to empowerment practices in various syariah-based social organizations. The concept of Maqosid Syariah-based Empowerment is a concept that is unique to syariah/Islamic social organizations in society, such as mosques, and zakat institutions, along with others
