Comparative Leaf Anatomy and Micromorphology of Thunbergia erecta (Benth.) T. Anderson and Thunbergia laurifolia Lindl. in Peninsular Malaysia
Comparative leaf anatomy and micromorphology study was carried out on two selected species from the genus Thunbergia Retz. of Acanthaceae subfamily Thunbergioideae. These two investigated species were T. erecta and T. laurifolia from Peninsular Malaysia. The leaf anatomical study involve several methods such as cross-section using sliding microtome on the petioles, midribs, lamina and marginal, leaf epidermal peeling, leaf clearing and observation under a light microscope. The leaf micromorphology method involve the observation under a scanning electron microscope (SEM). This study aimed to investigate the taxonomic value of leaf anatomy and micromorphology characteristics of genus Thunbergia. The results have shown that there were five common characteristics present in both species studied and several variable characters that might be useful for species differentiation of T. erecta and T. laurifolia. The five common characteristics recorded were the presence of raphide, sinuous anticlinal walls, diacytic stomata, majority opened and minority closed venation in lamina and the presence of peltate glandular (unicellular terminal) trichome. The variable characteristics included were petiole, and marginal outlines, types of vascular bundles, the presence of druse, marginal venation, stomata occurrence, types of wax, cuticular sculpturing and types of trichomes. In conclusion, findings in this study showed that leaf anatomical and micromorphological characteristics possessed taxonomic value that can be used in the species identification for the genus Thunbergia specifically for T. erecta and T. laurifolia
Side-Scan Sonar Coupled with Scuba Diving Observation for Enhanced Monitoring of Benthic Artificial Reefs along the Coast of Terengganu, Peninsular Malaysia
Since the 1970s, artificial reef (AR) deployment has been one of the common approaches to augment the local production of coastal fish in Malaysia. However, there is a lack of strategy to assess and evaluate the success of pre-deployed AR. Realizing the need for an effective qualitative and quantitative monitoring and evaluation of AR, this study proposes side-scan sonar coupled with scuba diving observation for the enhanced monitoring of pre-deployed Bioceramic Korean (BK) AR along the coast of Terengganu, Peninsular Malaysia. This method employs an integrated side-scan sonar with a data acquisition system for the detection of the precise location of the BK AR which were deployed at Tukun Telaga Batin off the Terengganu coastline in 2003 by the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (FDAM). Following the determination of the exact location of three BK AR areas, a scuba diving team was sent to survey the physical conditions of the AR and assess the feasibility of the AR as an artificial habitat for marine life. The scan sonar images were compared with the captured photographs and videos acquired during the scuba diving session for a comprehensive value-added assessment. The collected data from the scuba diving session were also processed to measure the fish diversity, the fish biomass, and identify the fish community surrounding the AR. Based on the results, the BK AR remained in extremely good condition, physically intact, without significant breakage or damage, and with no major subsidence into the sediment after 19 years of deployment. A total of 108 BK AR modules were detected in three large groups using the mosaicked sonar images. Following cross-examination to validate the AR measurements using the AR’s shadows on the seafloor, the height of the BK AR consistently ranged from 1.7 m to 1.8 m. In addition, 34 species of fish from 14 families and 26 genera were identified, with most species classified as reef-associated (RA) fish with a biomass value of 1173.31 ± 1136.69 kg m−3, indicating the successfulness of the BK AR as fish-aggregating devices (FADs). The growth of hard corals on top of the bioceramic plate of the AR module further supported the diversified community of marine life surrounding the BK AR. In conclusion, the side-scan sonar coupled with scuba diving observation demonstrates an effective qualitative and quantitative technique for the monitoring and evaluation of pre-deployed AR. This strategy is recommended to be utilized to determine the success of pre-deployment AR

She has always been fond of influencing people with her fashion, so in January 2021, she used this skill to turn her account into a business account that sells surprise boxes that will satisfy every customers’ unique preferences.
As she started gaining attention and customers, she made it her mission to spread happiness using her artistic service and to bring a smile to others faces with surprise. A couple of months after the business began accepting orders, while also helping her persevere through the pandemic, her business gains attention and starts to prosper among young adults in Malaysia. This is especially true for female audiences and is hugely influenced and thanks to the online phone application, TikTok and soon it is possible for this to be her main income.

A palynological study of six species of Pterospermum was conducted to investigate variation in pollen micromorphological characteristics. The studied species were P. diversifolium, P. elongatum, P. jackianum, P. javanicum, P. lanceifolium and P. subpeltatum. Pollen was subjected to acetolysis, single-grain techniques and dehydration series, and observed using light and scanning electron microscopy. The results reveal some common characters shared by all the studied species, namely: echinate-granulate exine ornamentation; porate pollen class; and circular amb. Variation was found in the ratio of exine thickness, pollen size, and average spine length, outline, shape, measurements, spine size and the presence of an annulus. These characters proved to be valuable for identifying and differentiating the studied species. This study shows that morphological characteristics of Pterospermum pollen have taxonomic value, especially for the identification and differentiation of species of the subfamily Dombeyoideae and even other Malvaceae s.l

Padimedical: Medical Image Sharing Portal with DICOM Viewer – User Experience
Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine (DICOM) is a standard medical imaging format for medical imaging information and data. Availability to access DICOM files remotely using smartphones has shown to improve healthcare systems especially for communication between doctors fromdifferent centres. Most of DICOM files need to be viewed using conventional institutional DICOM viewer. We developed software which allows medical personnel to access DICOM images remotely from their smartphone. This newly created software platform is named Padimedical. This pilot study aims to evaluate users’ satisfaction and usability. Practising medical doctors from a radiology department in a tertiary referral centre were chosen as correspondents in this study. The survey form was sent to over 30 doctors via email. A total of 24 out of 30 respondents completed the survey. The survey showed that Padimedical DICOM viewer was easily accessible (100%), compatible with OS operating system (100%), user-friendly (87.1%), and high signal to noise ratio (100%). All respondents (100%) agreed that the image viewing was smooth and responsive. All respondents would recommend to their peers (n=24). A total of 18 respondents suggested that the quality of images was high (76%) and 23 respondents suggested that the contents in this newly created platform were easy to share (96.15%). All the participants were able to make the correct diagnosis using Padimedical. Overall, the rating of our platform is 4.3 out of 5. Conclusion: Based on this pilot survey, Padimedical software was easily accessible remotely using smartphones, compatible with OS operating system, viewing images were smooth and responsive, produce high-quality image, and easy to share DICOM contents.Keywords—DICOM, images, software
