Novel centroid selection approaches for KMeans-clustering based recommender systems

    No full text
Recommender systems have the ability to filter unseen information for predicting whether a particular user would prefer a given item when making a choice. Over the years, this process has been dependent on robust applications of data mining and machine learning techniques, which are known to have scalability issues when being applied for recommender systems. In this paper, we propose a k-means clustering-based recommendation algorithm, which addresses the scalability issues associated with traditional recommender systems. An issue with traditional k-means clustering algorithms is that they choose the initial k centroid randomly, which leads to inaccurate recommendations and increased cost for offline training of clusters. The work in this paper highlights how centroid selection in k-means based recommender systems can improve performance as well as being cost saving. The proposed centroid selection method has the ability to exploit underlying data correlation structures, which has been proven to exhibit superior accuracy and performance in comparison to the traditional centroid selection strategies, which choose centroids randomly. The proposed approach has been validated with an extensive set of experiments based on five different datasets (from movies, books, and music domain). These experiments prove that the proposed approach provides a better quality cluster and converges quicker than existing approaches, which in turn improves accuracy of the recommendation provided

Quadcopter-Based Rapid Response First-Aid Unit with Live Video Monitoring

    No full text
Air transport is the fastest way to reach areas with no direct land routes for ambulances. This paper presents the development of a quadcopter-based rapid response unit in an efficient aerial aid system to eliminate the delay time for first aid supplies. The system comprises a health monitoring and calling system for a field person working in open areas and a base station with the quadcopter. In an uncertain situation, the quadcopter is deployed from the base station towards the field person for immediate help through the specified path using constant Global System for Mobile (GSM)- and Global Positioning System (GPS)-based connections. The entire operation can be monitored at the base station with a Virtual Reality (VR) head-tracking system supported by a smartphone. The camera installed on the quadcopter is synchronized with the operator’s head movement while wearing a VR head-tracking system at the base station. Moreover, an Infrared (IR)-based obstacle-evasion model is implemented separately to explain the working of the autonomous collision-avoidance system. The system was tested, which confirmed the reduction in the response time to supply aid to the desired locations

In sub-continent the concept of classes is part of its social life from pre-historic times. When we search its basis we cannot ignore the Hindu religion, which is main cause to increase it. In Hinduism the concept of sect and cast is under cover of religion. Hinduism divided it's followers under four divisions as Barhamin, Vaish, Kashtri and Achoot. The lowest cast in Hinduism is also called Harajin, Dalit, untouchable cast. Achoots are considered as un-human, uncivilized and dirty people. They have no respect in society. Now the modern times people are rising their voices against this act. This protest is in many forms like drama, film and other forms of literature and education with the impact of literature an awareness is rising among the people. Because of this awareness and protest Dalit people are facing many hurdles in society. But awareness is provoking in Indian society. This rticle is the auto-biography "Changya Rukh" by Balbir Madhoupori. It discussed many aspects like un-human customs against Dalit people. Their role in society, limited sources of education and jobs "Changya Rukh" is well read auto-biography which is translated in many languages as well

A Preliminary Study on the Effect of Short Fiber Content on Drafting Force and its Variability

    No full text
Fiber length is one of the most important factors affecting the drafting force and its variability. By analyzing the draftometer data, the interaction between the dynamic drafting force and its variability with respect to the short fiber content of carded cotton sliver is discussed. Two cotton slivers with similar physical properties, except for their short fiber content (i.e.8.8% and 5.3%) were tested. An increase in drafting force and a decrease in its coefficient of variance (CV%) was noticed for the sample with higher short fiber content. With back gauge increase (from 43mm to 51 mm), the drafting force decreased and its variability increased, irrespective of short fiber content. The inter-fiber cohesion generally decreased, with widened roller settings. It was shown that a broader distribution of fiber length in an assembly of fibers created, more contact points in the strand being aligned by the drafting process. The CV of drafting force increased as we moved from the smaller back ratch to a wider one, which also contributed to sliver irregularity

Pakistan is the world fourth biggest maker of the cotton and positions tenth in productivity. Many factors such as poor seed quality, primitive agronomic practices, improper use of fertilizers and pesticides, lack of access to modern machinery, slow adoption of modern farming practices and use of low Bt expression varieties can attribute to it. In this study focus was on the slow adoption of the advanced generations of Bt cotton and that the role of government institutions in endorsement of Bt Cotton in Pakistan and the prognosticating benefits of adopting it more widely. Bt cotton contains specific type of proteins that when consumed by a specific type of insect larvae, damage the insect gut walls by creating holes in it, which causes larvae to stop feeding and eventually die. The Bt gene is inserted in plants by genetic alteration in which the source code of the DNA is changed to produce the proteins / toxins which reduces the need for the application of insecticides. Brought in Pakistan during 2005 illegally and formally approved in 2010 the productivity increase in Bt cotton remains yet to be seen. This is more surprising when in India and throughout the world, the productivity of Bt cotton increased manifolds. Bt cotton’s main function is not to increase productivity but to check the role of the boll worms in decreasing productivity and through decreasing the pest attacks on the crops; Bt cotton serves to increase productivity by decreasing sub economic threshold levels damages and creating more reliable insect control in all weather conditions. This paper will consider Progress of government institutes, different companies and Government agencies involved that correlate directly to the production of the Bt cotton in Pakistan

Insights from Theory of Consumption Value to Access the Impact of Islamic Products, Islamic Marketing, and Corporate Social Responsibility on Customer Satisfaction: A Moderated Mediation Approach

    No full text
Customer satisfaction is the focal point of every marketing campaign, and various factors have been examined to enhance customer satisfaction among both Muslim and non-Muslim customers. Islamic marketing has emerged as a concept in both Muslim and non-Muslim countries. This research aims to elucidate the moderating role of corporate social responsibility in the relationship between customer satisfaction and Islamic marketing, while taking into account the theory of consumption value (TCV). To conduct this research, data were collected from online consumers using a Likert scale questionnaire. The Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) technique was employed to test the hypothesized relationships. The results reveal that the consumption value of Halal products plays a significant role in customer satisfaction, with the moderating effect of another value-added variable, corporate social responsibility. Furthermore, the study explains the impact of Halal products on Islamic marketing, moderated by corporate social responsibility. The study also provides practical implications that can be applied by marketers to achieve customer satisfaction goals. Based on the findings, businesses can effectively target Muslim consumers through Islamic marketing strategies
