How can agile practices minimize global software development co-ordination risks?

    No full text
The distribution of project stakeholders in Global Software Development (GSD) projects provides significant risks related to project communication, coordination and control processes. There is growing interest in applying agile practices in GSD projects in order to leverage the advantages of both approaches. In some cases, GSD project managers use agile practices to reduce project distribution challenges. We use an existing coordination framework to identify GSD coordination problems due to temporal, geographical and socio-cultural distances. An industry-based case study is used to describe, explore and explain the use of agile practices to reduce development coordination challenges.Emam Hossain, Muhammad Ali Babar, and June Verne

Towards a framework for using agile approaches in global software development

    No full text
As agile methods and Global Software Development (GSD) are become increasingly popular, GSD project managers have been exploring the viability of using agile approaches in their development environments. Despite the expected benefits of using an agile approach with a GSD project, the overall combining mechanisms of the two approaches are not clearly understood. To address this challenge, we propose a conceptual framework, based on the research literature. This framework is expected to aid a project manager in deciding what agile strategies are effective for a particular GSD project, taking into account project context. We use an industry-based case study to explore the components of our conceptual framework. Our case study is planned and conducted according to specific published case study guidelines. We identify the agile practices and agile supporting practices used by a GSD project manager in our case study and conclude with future research directions.Emam Hossain, Muhammad Ali Babar and June Verne

Using scrum in global software development: A systematic literature review

    No full text
There is a growing interest in applying agile practices in Global Software Development (GSD) projects. The literature on using Scrum, one of the most popular agile approaches, in distributed development projects has steadily been growing. However, there has not been any effort to systematically select, review, and synthesize the literature on this topic. We have conducted a systematic literature review of the primary studies that report using Scrum practices in GSD projects. Our search strategy identified 366 papers, of which 20 were identified as primary papers relevant to our research. We extracted data from these papers to identify various challenges of using Scrum in GSD. Current strategies to deal with the identified challenges have also been extracted. This paper presents the review’s findings that are expected to help researchers and practitioners to understand the challenges involved in using Scrum for GSD projects and the strategies available to deal with them.Emam Hossain, Muhammad Ali Babar, Hye-young Pai

E-catalogs: how can brain hemisphericity relate to online shoppers' preferences?

    No full text
This study explores the relationship between online shoppers’ brain hemisphericity and their preference for electronic catalogs (e-catalogs). e-Catalogs provide information on online products and services and can be presented in various forms, including text-oriented catalogs, audio-enabled catalogs, 3D catalogs, virtual trials, and custom animated catalogs. It is proposed that Web shoppers’ brain hemisphericity can provide a basis for personalization of e-catalogs. Data were collected using two survey instruments. A verbalizer–visualizer questionnaire was used to measure participants’ brain hemisphericity. Participants’ preferences for different features of e-catalogs were measured using an e-catalogs questionnaire. Data were collected from a total of 1,087 respondents. ANOVA and multiple regression analyses were conducted to test the hypotheses. The findings suggest that participants’ verbal and visual scores provide a basis for customization of e-catalogs. The personalization of e-catalogs can facilitate and improve Web shoppers’ online shopping experience and assist their decision-making process for online purchases.A.B.M. ABSTRACT : 18th Century Bengal witnessed the stage from prosperity to decline , as per the statement of prominent historian Sushil Roy . This period saw the socio – economic condition of the people of Bengal under Mughal puppet emperors, next by independent Nawabs and later on by the colonial East India Company and in this socio-economic background the emergence of a great philanthropist Haji Muhammad Mohsin. In this paper the role of all these ruling classes including the role of colonial British East India Company in spreading Education and philanthropy has also been discussed critically. The role of Haji Muhammad Mohsin in this regard is highlighted and a comparative study of the Indigenous and colonial ruling class in case of spreading Education has been discussed. Attempts are also taken to find out the fact whether Haji Muhammad Mohsin was supported by the Colonial ruling class or interrupted by them in case of his continuing philanthropic activities. Apart from this , the role of contemporary wealthy persons and the role played by Haji Muhammad Mohsin’s regarding philanthropy has been discussed here. Haji Muhammad Mohsin longed for spreading Anglo – Persian Education . Secular characteristics of Haji Muhammad Mohsin and his contribution regarding the promotion of Education has been highlighted here.THIS DATASET IS ARCHIVED AT DANS/EASY, BUT NOT ACCESSIBLE HERE. Risk identification and mitigation processes for using scrum in global software development: a conceptual framework

    No full text
There is growing interest in applying agile practices in Global Software Development (GSD) projects. But project stakeholder distribution in GSD creates a number of challenges that make it difficult to use some agile practices. Moreover, little is known about what the key challenges or risks are, and how GSD project mangers deal with these risks while using agile practices. We conduct a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following existing guidelines to identify primary papers that discuss the use of Scrum practices in GSD projects. We identify key challenges, due to global project distribution, that restrict the use of Scrum and explore the strategies used by project managers to deal with these challenges. Our findings are consolidated into a conceptual framework and we discuss various elements of this framework. This research is relevant to project managers who are seeking ways to use Scrum in their globally distributed projects.Emam Hossain, Muhammad Ali Babar, Hye-young Paik, June Verne
