Muhammad Farooq
Muhammad Farooq was born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan. After finishing middle school, he moved to the United States. He is currently a senior at the University of Central Florida, pursuing his bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences and minoring in health sciences. His passion for medicine and making a difference in the lives of people motivates him to participate in various community services and medicine related extracurricular activities, such as shadowing and attending robotic surgery symposiums. Muhammad Farooq is currently studying the effect of growth factors in the tumor microenvironment and how that could impact esophageal cancer development-under the guidance of Dr. Claudia Andl. Sustainability, sustainable agriculture, and the environment
Sustainability has always been the paradigm of sustainable agriculture that has played and still plays a decisive role in the conversion of unsustainable management models and practices, while at the same time responding to the needs of a living planet despite the constant growth of the population. For these ambitious goals, the challenges of equity and efficiency as fundamental components must also aim to reduce the gap for healthy eating in order to live in a healthier environment. Therefore, Sustainability, Sustainable Agriculture and the Environment, represent the vertices of a strictly interconnected system on which the progress acquired has shown widespread criticalities at a global level, in particular in the translation from theoretical principles to the practices of application, monitoring and evaluation of results. The impact of climate change for which the Sustainability of Agriculture represents an important part of the solutions available in the short and medium term must be taken into high consideration on these aspects. In this perspective, the advanced study and educational program in the continuous search for innovations to be transferred to direct operators of Agriculture appear as the most important need on which to turn the attention of technical and political decision-makers, identifying coordinated multidisciplinary actions and multistakeholder approaches to support of environmental compliance programs and measures
An Analytical Review of Different Concepts of Riba (Interest) in the Sub-Continent
The traditional concept of Riba (interest) is an excess amount on loan, which creditor receives from debtor on the repayment of loan. There is almost a consensus on the sprit of this concept that it is traditional thought or school; but along with that some other point of views also exist, which present Riba, in somewhat different ways, will be termed as non-traditional approach in this paper. Both of these schools are agreed on the point that, Riba is just restricted to debt, and the increment on it is Riba; but the main difference among these is that: former approach claims that, each and every addition on loan, regardless of purpose and time duration of loan is Riba; but, the later approach demand’s some room for that on different grounds. Actually both of them do not have any sound base. When the concept of unearned income (the income, which is not the result of human labor), is a recognized fact in Islamic economics in different forms, like: ijara (rent), Mudoraba and Mazara’a (Share Cropping); then definitely no logical reason is left to avoid excess income on loan. Allelopathy is a naturally occurring ecological phenomenon in which the livingorganisms produce and release the biochemicals (allelochemicals) in the environmentthat affect the growth, development, reproduction, and survival of otherliving organisms in the surrounding environment. For field crops, the phenomenonof allelopathy can be exploited in the form of intercropping, use ofcover crops, mulching, crop rotations, and use of plant water extracts alone orin combination with reduced doses of herbicides to provide effective controlof the agricultural pests and diseases. For the control of insect pests (field andstorage insect pests), the use of allelopathic plant water extracts and the powderof allelopathic plants may be quite useful. The allelochemicals affect thegrowth of unwanted plants (e.g., weeds) through changes in the cell structure,inhibition of cell elongation/division, disruption of membrane structures, anddisruption of water and nutrient uptake and the process of photosynthesis. Thephenomenon of allelopathy is eco-friendly, and it may help significantly reducethe usage of pesticides. Thus, the phenomenon of allelopathy provides an attractiveecological alternative to pesticides for controlling the pests and diseases ofthe agricultural crops. In this chapter, we have discussed the mechanismof allelochemicals for growth inhibition in plants and the role of crop rotation,allelopathic mulches, allelopathic cover crops, intercrops, and allelopathic waterextracts (alone or with reduced doses of herbicides) in weed management. Therole of allopathic water extracts and allelopathic powders for managing the insectpests and diseases has also been described
H∞filtering on the unit circle
The problem of nonlinear H∞filtering on the unit circle is considered, and a solution is provided, which respects a given upper bound on the energy gain from disturbances and initial conditions to the estimation error. The proposed filter is simulated for typical conditions and the results are compared with the Extended Kalman filter and the minimum energy filter
Connecting Theory and Practice in LIS: The Training Model of the Information Resource Centers
The traditional LIS education is also essential as it provides the foundation for our profession. Also, the LIS theory explores the history and evolution of the librarianship in different era. The library science educators do review the LIS courses from time to time, because it isn’t one time job. As the nature of information sources changes, the sophistication of information technology advances, and the quantity of knowledge explodes; the job market of librarians itself demands revision and expansion in the curricula of the LIS.
Even if the curriculum of an LIS school is up to the mark, the institution is required to train its new information professionals. Every type of library (i.e. public, academic, or special etc.) has to impart a proper training to its employees for better performance and productivity.
At the same time, it is true that not all the libraries or their parent institutions can afford the expensive and sophisticated training model of the IRCs. However, if they put the professional training on priority and spend some resources and time on it, they can get best out of their employees. One way is to arrange the in-house training sessions at their libraries. Moreover, the libraries of the same kind or in the same region can coordinate training on different LIS modules. The Internet is itself a good learning, teaching and training tool. The information professional can improve the professional skills through reading the professional literature, becoming a member of professional association, and consulting the value added professional websites
