A Visionary of the Lagos Muslim Community: Mustapha Adamu Animashaun, 1885-1968
The development process of a society can be understood through the study of lives of its inhabitants either as individuals or groups. In this connection, Nigerian historians have produced considerable amount of works on the country\'s local and national leaders. Such works have continued to enhance our knowledge of their roles in, and relevance to the country. While such biographies cut across religio-cultural boundaries, it seems clear that biographies on Muslim personalities, most especially at the local level, deserve more attention. This is why this study is on Mustapha Adamu Animashaun, who influenced the lives of Muslims and non-Muslims alike in Lagos during the first half of the twentieth century. In this study, the birth and educational background of Adamu Animashaun are examined. His life as a publisher, editor and author also receives attention. Furthermore, Adamu Animashaun\'s participation in the crisis of the Muslim Community of the Lagos Central Mosque between 1915 and 1947 is analysed. In addition, the study pays attention to his involvement in the formation of a Muslim political party in Lagos in the 1950s. The study concludes that despite the servile antecedents of Adamu Animashaun, he moved across the social ladder to become a leading personality in Lagos society – a feat achieved through sustained struggle, determination and support of those who shared the same aspiration with him. The mediation of hiv/aids knowledge in the effect of media exposure on attitude and practice on the syndrome: a cross sectional study of dolescent Islamiyya girls in north- East Nigeria
mediation effect of HIV/ AIDS knowledge was verified. A survey was administered on a sample of 487 Islamiyya girls in Bauchi. The study finds that while mass media exposure is not a significant predictor of HIV/AIDS safe practice and favorable attitude, it is a significant predictor of HIV/AIDS knowledge. While HIV/AIDS knowledge is a significant predictor of both HIV/AIDS favorable attitude and safe practice. There was a significant mediation effect of HIV/AIDS knowledge on the effect of HIV/AIDS media exposure on HIV/ AIDS safe practice. It was thus concluded that media exposure is a necessary but not a sufficient precursor for HIV/AIDS safe practice
Fractional investigation of time derivatives airflow process in a rectangular building
Abstract: The study investigates the fractional time derivatives of air flow process across vertical openings in rectangular building by Caputo sense. Governing equations of air flow are solved analytically by Laplace transform technique and method of undetermined coefficient to obtain the solutions in Laplace domain. The solutions are inverted from the Laplace domain back to the time domain by the Riemann-sum approximation approach. The influence of the different flow parameters such as fractional order , Prandtl number , effective thermal coefficient and discharge coefficient are plotted in graphs. In the course of investigation, it is found that the increase or decrease in fractional order between the interval of the temperature profile and velocity profile will increase or decrease while the volumetric air flow and mass transfer will only decrease as fractional order increase.

Al-Mubadarat Al-Riyfia: an Islamic finance product for the underserved segment and the third sector of the economy / Adamu Ahmed Wudil and Rislanudeen Muhammad
This paper presents al-Mubadarat al-Riyfia, an innovative Islamic financing product designed to serve the marginalised segment and the third sector of the economy. This paper aims to address the disparity in Islamic finance by emphasising inclusiveness and collective economic well-being. Al-Mubadarat al-Riyfia adopts a group-based approach and focuses primarily on the real business sector, aligning with the principles of value-based intermediation (VBI) in Islamic financing. The primary objective is to provide sustainable financial services to households at low income levels, serving financial needs that often fall within the range of approximately RM500 to RM1000 (approximately US$125-250). The initiative seeks to reach an estimated 40 million households worldwide. This initiative not only addresses the pressing issue of financial inclusion but also contributes significantly to the evolution of Islamic finance. It represents a pioneering effort to integrate underserved populations into the economic mainstream while upholding Islamic finance principles. The study's unique contribution lies in its potential to reshape the landscape of Islamic finance, foster shared prosperity, and provide a model for sustainable development

Relationships between HIV/AIDS knowledge, attitude and practice and media exposure on HIV/AIDS: a cross sectional survey of adolescent Islamiyya girls in northeast Nigeria / Adamu Muhammad Hamid and Ezhar Tamam
Media exposure on HIV/AIDS among adolescents in the sub-Saharan Africa has been reported as low in the early 2000s but now given growth in infrastructure and development in technology and program appeal, there emerges a need for reassessment. Given that communication particularly through the media is considered as a major preventive strategy to addressing the spread of the epidemic, this study investigates the media exposure, knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of adolescent Islamiyya girls in Northeast Nigeria on HIV/AIDS as a predominantly Muslim society against the background of earlier studies which have shown that Muslim communities which were hitherto considered protected are now witnessing a rapid evidence of an advancing HIV/AIDS epidemic. And because of peculiar cultural and social practices women and girls are the worst affected. Media exposure on HIV/AIDS messages is considered a principal variable associated with safe attitudes and practice on the disease’s prevention which was mainly investigated among the girls as potential mothers. The main objectives of the study were to determine the girls’ patterns of media exposure and their KAP statuses in relation to HIV/AIDS through questionnaire survey. Based on Hierarchy of Effects model, hypotheses were posed to test the relationships between HIV/AIDS media exposure and HIV/AIDS knowledge, safe practice and safe attitudes among the girls, and relationship among the KAP variables. Survey will be administered on a sample of 487 Islamiyya girls in Bauchi. This study finds that while mass media exposure is not a significant predictor of HIV/AIDS safe practice and favorable attitude, it is a significant predictor of HIV/AIDS knowledge. While HIV/AIDS knowledge is a significant predictor of both HIV/AIDS favorable attitude and safe practice
Ocular morbidity in Sokoto State, Nigeria
Background: There is a paucity of population-based data on ocular morbidity globally. The objectives of the current study were to estimate the prevalence and magnitude of eye disorders and to determine the ophthalmic subspecialty requirements for the population of Sokoto state, Nigeria. The information generated may provide baseline data for planning of a comprehensive eye health services in the state. Materials and Methods: During an all-ages population based blindness survey in December 2005, persons selected through a multi-stage random sampling were examined for any ocular disorder using a magnifying loupe, penlight and a direct ophthalmoscope. Data was entered and analyzed by a statistician. Statistical tests were carried out using Epi info 6 software (Centre for disease control [CDC] Atlanta, Georgia). Results: A total of 4848 persons were examined which gave a response rate of 91%. A total of 943 persons of the sample had an eye disorder in at least 1 eye, giving an ocular morbidity prevalence of 19%. Children aged 0-9 years constituted the highest proportion (37.5%) of the examined subjects. About 57% of the study population were males. Disorders affecting the lens (9.34%) were the most common followed by conjunctival lesions (5.49%). The most common diagnosis was lens opacity (8.1%) followed by conjunctivitis (5.2%). The most common subspecialty requirements in the population are cataract microsurgery (41.7%), and cornea/anterior segment (33%). Conclusion: Our data demonstrates high burden of ocular diseases most of which are either preventable or treatable in the study population. We recommend provision of human resource and technology requirements to meet these demands
An Ecological (Re)presentation of Depravity and Environmental Depletion in Adamu Kyuka’s The Death of Eternity
The notion that the environment has always served as a thematic and aesthetic base for the production of texts in the literary enterprise, globally is inarguable. In attestation, of the afore claim, this paper draws cogent data from Adamu Kyuka’s The Death of Eternity to closely examine the natural world and the environment as underscoring the relationship between man and his environment. The paper is exponential in its portrayal of man’s symphonic interaction with the environment as a blessing or a curse. Going forward, this paper builds a composite philosophy around the intersection between literature and environment. Where it argues that Nigerian literature has become more conscious of issues arising from resource control, as it especially relates to the devastating effect it melts on the environment. In concretizing these arguments, the paper deploys Ecocriticism as its analytical/investigative mechanism to explore the selected text as a fair representation of the environmental degradation Nigeria suffers at large. Seemingly, the choice of Ecocriticism as the investigative tool identifies the selected author as keenly aware of the devastating effect of industrial pollution as portrayed in the text under study as an expression of the commitment of the course of environmental preservation. The paper therefore finds that, Kyuka’s The Death of Eternity is critical in its examination of the social injustices, greed, corruption, political crisis and economic setbacks as social ills which are inspired by the scramble for natural resources
Embedding 3-D Gaze Points on a 3-D Visual Field: A Case of Transparency
The paper seeks to demonstrates the likelihood of embedding a 3D gaze point on a 3D visual field, the visual field is inform of a game console where the user has to play from one level to the other by overcoming obstacles that will lead them to the next level. Complex game interface is sometimes difficult for the player to progress to next level of the game and the developers also find it difficult to regulate the game for an average player. The model serves as an analytical tool for game adaptations and also players can track their response to the game. Custom eye tracking and 3D object tracking algorithms were developed to enhance the analysis of the procedure. This is a part of the contributions to user interface design in the aspect of visual transparency. The development and testing of human computer interaction uses and application is more easily investigated than ever, part of the contribution to this is the embedding of 3-D gaze point on a 3-D visual field. This could be used in a number of applications, for instance in medical applications that includes long and short sightedness diagnosis and treatment. Experiments and Test were conducted on five different episodes of user attributes, result show that fixation points and pupil changes are the two most likely user attributes that contributes most significantly in the performance of the custom eye tracking algorithm the study. As the advancement in development of eye movement algorithm continues user attributes that showed the least likely appearance will prove to be redundant
Adopting an African Standpoint in HCI4D: : A Provocation
While studies in HCI4D have been advanced by the shift of perspective from developmental studies to a range of other discourses, current analytical concepts for understanding the sociality of society in Africa have arguably led to some misinterpretations of the place of technology. This provocation suggests that an ‘African Standpoint’ based on a combination of various standpoint positionalities and the Wittgensteinian approach of Winch can offer conceptual and analytical sensitivities for articulating social relations, transnational engagements and the conceptualisation of technological innovation. This provides an approach for seeing and accounting for things as they are – right here, right there and right now – and not some idealised conception of an African reality
