Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) of Malaysian wild ginger Zingiber puberulum inflorescence
Study on bioactive compounds in essential oil of Malaysian wild ginger species, Zingiber puberulum was carried out. The essential oil was extracted from the inflorescence of Z. puberulum using SFE at 48 Mpa and 40°C of extracting pressure and temperature respectively. The oil was then analysed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) instrument. Twenty-one compounds were found in the SFE extract of Z. puberulum with fatty acids; i.e. palmitic acid
(65.7%) and oleic acid (15.9%) were the major constituents and small percentages of various terpenic compounds. The sesquiterpene compounds identified in the SFE extract of Z. puberulum were α-bisabolol, β-elemene and caryophyllene. It was found that SFE could be used successfully to extract a wide variety of important bioactive compounds in Z. puberulum but that the conditions may need to be optimized to ensure the optimum yield of the volatile compounds
Introducing Iqbal the Economist
The Iqbal Memorial Lecture was instituted in 1994 when the Pakistan Society of Development Economists (PSDE) celebrated the completion of a decade of steady progress. A brief announcement stated: “The Iqbal Memorial Lecture attributed to the national poet [Emphasis added], Allama Muhammad Iqbal has been included in the programme for the first time. Professor Ian M. D. Little is delivering that lecture” [Secretary’s Report (1994), p. 1472]. Iqbal, the poet and philosopher par excellence, has made incisive remarks or comments on economic and social issues in his poetry, philosophical writings, and in the course of his discourses as well as some famous letters, particularly those written to the Quaid-i-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. But these do not make Iqbal an economist. The Secretary of the PSDE was, therefore, careful in observing that the lecture commemorates our “national poet”. However, it will be of great interest to this largest national congregation of economists and other scholars concerned with development to know that the very first published book of Iqbal related neither to poetry nor philosophy, but economics. It was written in Urdu. He also taught the subject at undergraduate and Master’s level, even though he had not studied it as a student. At the Government College, Lahore, Iqbal studied English, Philosophy and Arabic for his B.A. and then completed the M.A. in Philosophy.

The research conducted is made to find whether the employees from India and Singapore have the behavior that the company wanted that is the Supportive, Smart, Courageous, Passionate and Reliable (S2CPR) behavior. This behavior will determine whether Scope International Malaysia has distinguished themselves among their competitor in the banking industry in Malaysia
Shoreline change analysis using geospatial approach at Tok Jembal Beach, Kuala Terengganu, Terengganau / Nor Suhaira Muhammad
The coastline is the boundary between sea water and land where it constantly changes dynamically and interact with each other, usually caused by erosion and accretion events. Coastal areas also one of the most crucial and important area in each country. Kuala Terengganu is one area which was subjected to the critical erosion. Erosion’s problem in Malaysia is due to the dynamic process, change in sea level and human activities. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor shoreline of Kuala Terengganu. Remote sensing data and GIS software will be very useful tools to analyse, visualize and map a change of shoreline. The objectives of this research are: 1) To detect the change pf shoreline at Tok Jembal beach between year 2016 and 2021 by using Landsat 8 imagery; 2) To define the rate changes of the shoreline at study area using the DSAS method; and 3) To produce the shoreline change map for year 2016 to 2021 for the study area by using ArcGIS. This study was intended about the shoreline changes analysis at Tok Jembal beach shoreline by using satellite imagery data and geospatial techniques to determine the rates of shoreline changes and to produce the map of shoreline changes at the study area. Digital image which is Landsat 8 OLI between year 2016 and 2021 will be used in this study for the statistical measurement by DSAS to estimate the rate of changes on Tok Jembal beach. ArcGIS extension which is Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) will be used to calculate the shoreline changes. The results of average EPR in 2016-2021, the average erosion value was -5.28 m/year and the average of accretion value was 12.35 m/year. Evaluation of soil degradation due to [GPR] amplitude wave and electrical conductivity of soil / Muhammad Nor Mustakim Sazalee
Soil contamination that affected by the present of hydrocarbon product is one
of the most popular environmental issues. The present of petroleum hydrocarbon in the
soil will change the soil physical properties, due to the penetration of hydrocarbon in
the subsurface through soil particle. Thus, the presence of hydrocarbon will replace the
position of the water in the subsurface material. As a consequence, hydrocarbon will
change the electrical properties of the soil such as the dielectric constant and electrical
conductivity, which this process also will change the image of subsurface. Hence, due
to evaluation the change of subsurface image, the use of Ground Penetrating Radar
(GPR) signal that controlled by the electrical properties of soil can be used to determine
the electrical conductivity of soil. In addition, the aim of this study is detect the presence
of soil contamination that affected by the hydrocarbon. In relation to achieved the aim,
the objective of this study is to analyses the GPR amplitude wave and electrical
conductivity of uncontaminated and contaminated soil, and to evaluate the accuracy of
electrical conductivity of soil using GPR. In this study, the method use is the
manipulation of radar signal, using the experiment collected by the GPR instrument. In
addition, the investigation site involved in this study is simulation site with the size (2.0
m X 2.6 m X 1.5 m) that is in uncontaminated and contaminated ground condition and
also the fuel pump station. The measurements for the data collection use the MALA
GPR that having the frequency 800 MHz for the both investigation site. The result will
be present to shows that the contamination of soil is effected by both GPR amplitude
wave and electrical conductivity. Consequently, the outcome of this study is the GPR
amplitude wave at contaminated area with the value -66 are difference with the
uncontaminated area with value -304. Besides that, it also represents the electrical
conductivity at contaminated area with the value 0.077420 mS/m are difference with
the uncontaminated area with the value 0.077500 mS/m

Geospatial analysis of road distresses and the relationship with the slope factor
A road is a medium that a person uses to move from one destination to another. A
good road can provide comfort and safety to users, however, poor maintenance of
a road might cause danger to them. Therefore, a road maintenance management
system needs to be carried out to ensure the effectiveness as well as the efficiency
of road maintenance itself. In this era, there are so many systems created in order
to help data storage and analysis. One of the systems is the Geographic
Information System (GIS). Other than getting the location of distresses, GIS also
can help to classify the severity level of distresses and to correlate the distresses
occurring in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) with the slope gradient.
Road distress data was collected using GPS applications supported by Supersurv 3
software. The study shows that the GIS method helps to produce a good spatial
database. The road gradient factor is related to the level of road damage
Solving of Lane-Emden Equation using Semi-Analytical Iterative method / Masitoh Mustafah, Nor Afif Muhammad Nor and Puteri Fatin Syazwani Mohamad
Lane-Emden is an equation that are commonly known in solving singular initial value problems that was formulated by using second order nonlinear differential equations. It is a type of equations that have significant applications in exploring mathematics, physics, astrophysics fields and technical world. Hence, most algorithms to solve Lane-Emden type of problems were usually be solved either in perturbation techniques or series solutions. Also, it was used as the core to verify new methods and able to attract many attention from many mathematicians and physicians to investigate more about Lane-Emden. Recently, many research about solving Lane-Emden equations have been done by using different type of methods but to solve using Semi-Analytical Iterative Method are still new and undiscover. In this research, Lane-Emden equation of index m and linear homogeneous Lane-Emden was solved by employed Semi-Analytical Iterative Method or also known as TAM. This method was popularized by Temimi and Ansari (TAM) for approximate solutions of differential algebraic eqauations that appear in many engineering and applied science applications. Aftermath, to show the result obtained was comparable, it was compared with the existing results from Adomian Decomposition Method (ADM) and Homotopy Perturbation Method (HPM). To prove the reliable and efficient of the result, the error between an existing result from ADM with the result of Lane-Emden equation of index m obtained from Maple software was computed. Drivers of capital structure in Malaysia Real Estate Investment Trust Funds (M-REITs) / Norhuda Abdul Rahim, Nor Aishah Mohd Shawal and Muhammad Hafiz Ali
This study investigates drivers of capital structure decisions of Malaysian Real Estate Investment Trust Funds (M-REITs) using 121 observations from 15 REITs companies listed in the Bursa Malaysia during 8 years study period of 2011 to 2018. Employing the panel data regression model, the result indicates that operating risk is significantly negatively related to leverage suggesting that M-REIT firms with higher uncertainty of earnings opt for low leverage as it reduces their risk of bankruptcy. Consistent with pecking order theory, profitability is reported to have significantly negatively related to leverage implying that M-REITs with higher (lower) profits have lower (larger) debt albeit this industry is expected to have low retained earnings. Contrary to the trade-off theory, the asset tangibility is significantly negatively related to leverage indicating that M-REITs with higher fixed assets opt for lower debt. The uniqueness of M-REIT regulation could be the justification for this result
