    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi apakah pemberian tilawah Al-Qur'an metode Jibril memiliki dampak terhadap peningkatan kemampuan konsentrasi. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas 8 di SMPI AL-Azhar 36 Bandung, dengan pengukuran yang dilakukan menggunakan tes Digit Span. Analisis data menggunakan statistik Mann-Whitney U-Test. Rata-rata skor konsentrasi subjek dalam kelompok eksperimen sebelum perlakuan adalah 9,4, dan setelah perlakuan meningkat menjadi 10,4. Sementara itu, pada kelompok kontrol, rata-rata skor subjek sebelum perlakuan adalah 9,8, dan setelah perlakuan meningkat menjadi 10,6. Hasil uji hipotesis Mann-Whitney U-Test menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam Kemampuan Konsentrasi Siswa antara Kelompok Kontrol dan Kelompok Eksperimen (Pemberian Tilawah Al-Qur'an).     مستخلص البحث الرسوم المتحركة هي وسيلة لعرض المحتوى تركز على تغير الكلمات والصور والأشكال، وهي تستخدم عادة في الأفلام وشروحات الفيديو والرسوم البيانية التوضيحية. وبالنظر إلى قدرتها على التركيز على تغيير هذه العناصر، فمن الممكن استخدام الرسوم المتحركة لتعليم قواعد الإعلال في اللغة العربية، وهي وسيلة جديدة ونادرة في مجال تعليم اللغة العربية. يهدف هذا البحث إلى: 1) معرفة عملية تطوير فيديو الرسوم المتحركة كوسيلة تعليمية لقواعد الإعلال في مدرسة نور الحُدَة الدينية بمالانج، 2) قياس مدى صلاحية فيديو الرسوم المتحركة كوسيلة تعليمية لقواعد الإعلال في مدرسة نور الحُدَة الدينية بمالانج، 3) معرفة مدى فعالية فيديو الرسوم المتحركة كوسيلة تعليمية لقواعد الإعلال في مدرسة نور الحُدَة الدينية بمالانج. استخدم هذا البحث منهجية البحث والتطوير باستخدام نموذج ADDIE الذي يتكون من خمس مراحل. وتم جمع البيانات من خلال المقابلات واستبيانات خبراء المحتوى والوسائل واستبيانات استجابة المستخدمين. ولقياس مدى صلاحية الوسيلة التعليمية، استخدم الباحث معادلة صلاحية الوسيلة وفقًا لإيكو بوترو ويدييوكو. ولقياس مدى فعالية الوسيلة التعليمية، تم استخدام اختبار (قبل وبعد التجربة) وتم تحليل النتائج باستخدام اختبار t المقترن. كانت نتائج هذا البحث كالتالي: 1) التطوير: تم تطوير فيديو تعليمي يتناسب مع احتياجات الطلاب بناءً على قواعد الإعلال المستخدمة. 2) نتائج التحقق من صحة المحتوى والوسائل: أظهرت النتائج أن المحتوى "مقبول" والوسيلة "مقبولة إلى حد ما". وأظهرت نتائج استجابة الطلاب أن 96.6% من الطلاب أعطوا ردود فعل إيجابية على فيديو الرسوم المتحركة كوسيلة تعليمية. 3) نتائج الاختبار قبل وبعد التجربة: أظهر تحليل ويلكوكسون وجود فرق ذي دلالة إحصائية (0.001)، مما يدل على وجود فرق كبير في الأداء. ABSTRACT Motion graphics is a method of content presentation that focuses on changes in words, images, or shapes, commonly used in films, explanatory videos, and infographic animations. Given its ability to focus on changes in these elements, there is a possibility that motion graphics can be used for teaching Arabic grammar, specifically the rules of i'lal. This is a relatively new medium and is still rarely found in Arabic language learning. The objectives of this research are: 1) To determine the development process of motion graphic videos as a learning medium for Qowa'idul I'lal at Madrasah Diniyah Nurul Huda Malang, 2) To measure the validity of motion graphic videos as a learning medium for Qowa'idul I'lal at Madrasah Diniyah Nurul Huda Malang, and 3) To determine the effectiveness of motion graphic videos as a learning medium for Qowa'idul I'lal at Madrasah Diniyah Nurul Huda Malang. This research employed a Research and Development method using the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages. Data was collected through interviews, questionnaires for material and media experts, and user response questionnaires. To determine the feasibility of the learning media, the researcher used the media feasibility formula according to Eko Putro Widiyoko. To determine the effectiveness of the learning media, pre-test and post-test were used, and the results were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results of this research are: 1) Development: A learning video was developed that is suitable for the needs of students based on the used i'lal rules. 2) Results of material and media validation: The results showed that the content was "acceptable" and the media was "fairly acceptable". The results of student responses showed that 96.6% of students gave positive feedback on motion graphic videos as a learning medium. 3) Pre-test and post-test results: Wilcoxon analysis showed a significant difference (0.001), indicating a significant difference. ABSTRAK Motion graphic adalah suatu cara penyajian suatu konten yang difokuskan pada perubahan kata, gambar, atau bentuk yang biasa digunakan dalam film, video penjelasan, dan animasi infografis. Dengan kelebihannya yang berfokus pada perubahan elemen-elemen tersebut, ada kemungkinan bahwa motion graphic digunakan untuk pembelajaran ilmu shorof salah satunya tentang kaidah i’lal. Hal ini merupakan media yang baru dan masih jarang ditemukan dalam pembelajaran bahasa Arab. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: 1) Mengetahui proses pengembangan video motion graphic sebagai media pembelajaran Qowa’idul I’lal di Madrasah Diniyah Nurul Huda Malang, 2) Mengukur validitas video motion graphic sebagai media pembelajaran Qowa’idul I’lal di Madrasah Diniyah Nurul Huda Malang, 3) Mengetahui efektivitas video motion graphic sebagai media pembelajaran Qowa’idul I’lal di Madrasah Diniyah Nurul Huda Malang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Research and Development dengan model ADDIE yang memiliki 5 tahapan. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dikumpulkan adalah wawancara, angket validator ahli materi dan media serta angket respon pengguna. Untuk mengetahui kelayakan media pembelajaran tersebut peneliti menggunakan rumus kelayakan media menurut Eko Putro Widiyoko. Sedangkan untuk mengetahui efektivitas media pembelajaran tersebut digunakan tes (pre-test dan post test) dan hasil tersebut dianalisis menggunakan paired sample t-test. Hasil penelitian ini adalah: 1) Pengembangan yaitu dengan mempertimbangkan materi kaidah I’lal yang digunakan, kemudian mengembangkannya menjadi video pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan pelajar. 2) Hasil validasi ahli materi dan ahli media dinyatakan layak dengan predikat “layak” dari segi materi dan “cukup layak” dari segi media. Dari hasil respon pelajar diperoleh total sebesar 96,6% yang berarti bahwa pelajar memberikan respon positif terhadap video motion graphic sebagai media pembelajaran. 3) Hasil pre-test dan post-test dihitung dengan uji Wilcoxon untuk menentukan efektvitas dengan hasil signifikansi 0.001 yang menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan

    Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
