Test cell for polarization and depolarization current test of transformer insulation oil

Polarization and Depolarization Current (PDC) analysis is normally used to determine the water content in the oil-paper insulation barrier and also oil conductivity inside the transformers. PDC measurement onsite was performed by injecting the DC Voltage at one side of the transformer and current measurement will be carried at the other side of the transformer, in which the transformers are required to be isolated from services to be tested. PDC test normally run up to 10000s for polarization and had to wait for other 10000s for depolarization measurement. Because of the long duration of the test, applications of this method to monitor transformer on service become less popular. In this research, a cell was designed and developed to perform PDC on insulation oil samples. The PDC pattern of insulation oil obtained by testing using the cell was found to have same pattern with the test done onsite. Predictions for transformers in service can be made by performing PDC tests on oil samples taken from the transformer tank and then comparing its pattern, conductivity level and measured capacitance value against a PDC fingerprint

High voltage stress distribution phenomena on liquid and solid insulation material using finite element method

    No full text
Electric field stress has been a major problem in high voltage phenomena that can lead to electrical degradation and thermal losses. Recent research found that with the development of existing liquid insulator (mineral oil, vegetativebased oils) and solid insulator (epoxy) will enhance the electrical, mechanical and thermal properties of high voltage insulation. This study investigates the properties of the electric field distribution, electrical potential and heat flow across the liquid insulating material (mineral oil, coconut oil, palm fatty acid ester oil and FR3) and solid insulating material (cross-linked polyethylene/XLPE, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and epoxy) using finite element method (FEM). The aim of this study is to get a better understanding on the electric field distribution including heat transfer under high voltage stress for research purposes. The study was carried out using liquid test cell (according to IEC 60897) and solid test cell (according to CIGRE Method II). The result from this study will give a better understanding to interpret the phenomenon of electric field distribution, electrical potential and heat flow as the increase of the electrical stress

The Fekete-Szego problem is a classical problem in complex analysis that concerns the properties of univalent functions. Specifically, there is limited method to find geometric properties of certain class of univalent function. This study is conducted to define new class of univalent functions and to find upper bound of Fekete-Szego problem for this class of functions using Hankel determinant

Developing a model for preaction dispute resolution for strata dispute management in Malaysia

    No full text
The Malaysian government has finally announced for the implementation of Strata Management Act 2013 with the aims to cater disputes in the management of strata titled properties. Among the most important aspect of the Act is to introduce Strata Management Tribunal as a platform to resolve disputes among the strata owners and all stakeholders in relation to strata management and maintenance. This research addresses the period prior to the adjudication process by the Tribunal and proposes a model for early dispute resolution before the hearing. The author argues that early dispute resolution or early conflict engagement is necessary despite the establishment of Strata Management Tribunal to address non-technical issues, which involve restoration of social relationship. The author highlights the practice of other jurisdiction, for example, Victoria, Australia as well Hong Kong. The findings of the research show that Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methods such as mediation or conciliation are suitable to be adopted within and outside Tribunal process

Evaluation of anti-diabetic activity of etlingera elatior flower (bunga kantan) aqueous extract in rat with type 2 diabetes mellitus induced by high-fat diet and streptozotocin

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a global public health concern that leads to multiple complications, including renal failure. Nowadays, the use of medicinal plants in\ud disease management is increasing exponentially due to their beneficial health effects. Traditionally, the flower of Etlingera elatior (bunga kantan) has been used as a supplement for diabetic management. However, very little scientific evidence on the efficacy of this plant in DM. This study aims to determine the anti-diabetic effect of E. elatior flower aqueous extract (EEAE) and improvement in renal damage on the type 2 DM rat (T2DR) model. The in vitro antioxidant, and in vitro anti-diabetic activity of EEAE were determined by inhibition of carbohydrate digestive enzymes. The T2DR model was achieved using a combination of high-fat diet (HFD) feeding and streptozotocin (STZ). Forty-nine male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were equally divided into seven groups; normal, obese, untreated-DM, metformin-treated, and EEAE-treated at 500, 1000, and 2000 mg/kg. All treatments were orally administered for 6 weeks. The fasting blood glucose (FBG) and body weight were measured weekly, while the systolic blood pressure (SBP) was fortnightly. At the end of the study, levels of biochemical parameters and antioxidant biomarkers were determined. The histology of the liver, kidney, pancreas, and aorta was assessed using haematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stain. The kidney tissue was further evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis and special staining; periodic acid Schiff (PAS) and Masson’s trichrome (MT). Furthermore, the levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) in kidney tissue were elucidated. There were significant in vitro antioxidant activities, and in vitro inhibition on α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes. In EEAEtreated T2DR, FBG and SBP were significantly lower compared to other groups. When compared to untreated-T2DR, EEAE improved lipid profile, renal and liver function tests, and significantly increased antioxidant biomarkers levels (superoxide dismutase/SOD, catalase/CAT, and glutathione/GSH). In addition, there was an improvement in liver, kidney, and pancreatic histology of EEAE-treated at low and medium doses. EEAE also decreased the level of IL-6, TGF-β, and CTGF in kidney tissue. In conclusion, E. elatior has anti-diabetic activity, which can be attributed to its antioxidant properties and reduction of the inflammatory process
