The past scene of hospitality ethics: A citation analysis perspective

    No full text
The literature on ethics research in hospitality has significantly expanded in recent years. The objective of this study is to present a comprehensive overview of ethical research in the field of hospitality literature. This will facilitate insight into future developments by examining the past. A two-step approach is employed, comprising citation analysis, a bibliometric analysis technique, and a systematic review. The former is used to identify themes, which are then discussed in the latter. The citation analysis revealed five main themes of the domain: environmental concerns, organisational citizenship behaviour, reputation management and ethical leadership. Environmental concerns were examined from two perspectives: the viewpoint of hotels and the environmental behaviours of tourists and consumers. Subsequently, a systematic review was conducted using the TCM framework (theory/context/methodology) with the objective of identifying the most prominent theories, contexts, and methodological issues associated with each theme. The issue has predominantly been discussed using quantitative analysis and social-based theories. Research has been mainly conducted in the US and the EU. Environmental ethics is likely to remain a significant area of concern in the future. This study offers a perspective that can aid researchers in developing future studies on ethics and help practitioners enhance the ethical climate of the industry. © The Author(s) 2024

Polat Dede, Nurten (Arel Author), Ayrancı, Evren (Arel Author)The purpose of this study is to test the claim that the top manager family members’ altruism and trust with regard to other family members should be connected with these top managers’ spiritual leadership feature. Data are collected from the top manager family members, who are in charge of their family businesses in Beylikduzu Organized Industrial Zone. Many instruments’ items are used for spiritual leadership, altruism and trust. The scope of spiritual leadership is wider than those of altruism and trust; besides references to the family, spiritual leadership also includes references to the participants, their subordinates and their businesses. The participants’ spiritual leadership factors are powerfully and positively related with their altruism and trust with regard to other family members. If altruism and trust are posited to affect spiritual leadership factors, this effect is partly achieved. Only some items of altruism and trust can affect spiritual leadership feature. The literature points out that spiritual leadership is suitable for family businesses on the grounds that intra-family altruism and trust can be related with spiritual leadership feature. The current study proves this relationship. Such knowledge can be used for family business succession, mentoring and coaching applications in family businesses, conflict management towards the issues related with both the family and the business, and structuring family’s involvement in the business

Author identification takes an important place in Natural Language Processing (NLP). Each written document carries the trail of its author. In this study, we aim to realize the author identification via the traces belonging to author be retrieved from the text. A raw dataset was created with 25 columnists and randomly selected 2024 texts from different newspapers in the Turkish language. A dataset with character and lexical features with natural language processing methods were prepared over the raw dataset. The feature selection process was realized with the combination of the Chicken swarm optimization and the ensemble learning algorithms on the prepared dataset. The results were evaluated before and after the feature selection method was applied. The highest success rate with 93.99% was achieved when Adaboost with J48 algorithm was applied after the feature selection process carried out

TRACKING THE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNATIONALIZATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN TURKEY: A BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS

    No full text
This study aims to discover the general trends, the structural characteristics of the knowledge base, and developments in the field of internationalization of higher education (IHE) in Turkey. In this respect, the studies published in journals indexed by SSCI, SCI-Expanded, ESCI, and AHCI in Web of Science (WoS) between January 1, 1975, and November 20, 2021, were analyzed. The dataset included 260 articles. We administered descriptive analysis reflecting the topographical features and the dynamics of the related literature through Excel and the WoS analysis tools. We conducted bibliometric analyses to shed light on the current view of the literature and reveal the intellectual structure of the knowledge base and topical foci. The volume of the research in the field of IHE in Turkey and their yearly distribution suggests that this area of research is still in its infancy; however, there has been a rapid growth in the number of publications recently. Author co-citation analysis reveals four distinct schools of thought labeled as “Higher Education Policy Studies in EU,” “Global Socio-politics and Economics of IHE,” “Socio-cultural and Psychological Dimensions of Internationalization” and “Language Studies.” Finally, topical foci in the knowledge base emerged as “International Student Mobility,” © 2024 by Cahit Erdem and Mustafa Polat

Legal, economic, economic, geographical and demographic analysis of the acquisition of Real Estate by foreign nationals in Turkey

Polat, Zeynel Abidin (Arel Author)Real estate acquisition by foreign nationals in Turkey has been an issue of intense debate for a long time and has been subject to frequent legislative changes. The rights of foreign nationals with respect to real estate in Turkey were initially addressed in Land Registry Law No. 2644, which was passed in 1934, with additional amendments made to the law in subsequent decades. The aim of this study is to analyse the legal, economic, geographical and demographic impacts of real estate acquisition by foreign nationals to determine how a policy on this type of real estate acquisition should be implemented in Turkey. For the purposes of analysis, statistical data obtained from the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre (GDLRC) and the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) are used. The author will also make reference to the most recently issued legal regulations. Regulations introduced at various points in time have facilitated the acquisition of real estate by foreign nationals and brought in some $41 billion in revenue to the national economy since 2003. When the geographical distribution of the real estate acquired by foreign nationals is considered, one can observe that the most popular cities are coastal (Istanbul, Antalya, Bursa, Aydin, etc.). Additionally, foreign nationals originating from almost every country in the world have so far acquired real estate in Turkey. The majority of those who have done so are Arabs (from Iraq, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia), Europeans (from Germany, the United Kingdom and Sweden) and Asians (from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan). Based on this analysis, suggestions are put forward regarding the policies that could be followed in Turkey when considering the acquisition of real estate by foreign nationals
