    Detection of the third innermost radiation belt on LEO CORONAS-Photon satellite around 2009 solar minimum

    We analyze variations of high energy charged particle populations filling various magnetospheric regions under, inside and outside of the Van Allen inner and outer electron radiation belts in May 2009. The study is based on the experimental data obtained from the STEP-F and the SphinX instruments placed close to each other aboard the low-Earth circular orbit CORONAS–Photon satellite. Data analysis of particle fluencies collected from the highly sensitive STEP-F device indicates the presence of a persistent electron belt at L ≈ 1.6, i.e., beneath the well-known Van Allen electron inner radiation belt of the Earth’s magnetosphere. Cross-analyses of data obtained from the STEP-F and SphinX instruments initially built for various purposes made it possible to detect the highly anisotropic character of the spatial electron distribution in radiation belts in both Southern and Northern hemispheres. We detected also the presence of low-energy electrons at all latitudes during the main phase of a weak geomagnetic storm.</p

    We investigate the SOL2022-02-15T1815 solar flare, accompanied by a failed eruption, finding an answer to the question: What is the nature of coronal HXR sources accompanying the event? The HXR emission sources related to the interaction between the eruption and the overlying magnetic field might be typical structures observed in all flares.     Solar flares with the most distinct pulses April 2020 - March 2022: STIX QPPs flare list

    This work aimed to conduct a statistical study of the periods and amplitudes of QPPs observed in quick-look light curves of the STIX instrument. The quick-look light curves recorded from April 14, 2020 (the beginning of the mission) to the end of March, 2022 were scrutinised. 129 flares with the most distinct pulses were selected, for which the periodicity analysis was carried out using the Lomb-Scargle periodogram and the autocorrelation method. This sample contained mostly weak B- and C-class flares. It was found that 70% of examined flares showed statistically significant oscillations. Longer periods occur less frequently than shorter ones. We also identified a relationship between the period and the duration in which the oscillations were observed.This dataset cotains two version of the list: zipped .xlsx version with formatted footnotes and RepOD-analysed version available for download in .tab, .rdata and .xlsx formats.</p

    This data set contains results of automated search in SDO/AIA data base. We performed the search in Lev1.5 data obtained with 171 Å filter. The automated algorithm (Mrozek et al. 2016) was constructed for searching of mass movement in the solar atmosphere. Therefore, we have found a variety of moving strucutres: small jets, mass motions inside closed loops, jets, oscillating loops, full and partial eruptions, a group of failed eruptions, and plasma draining after eruption.     Following the Neupert effect, we quantify the relative yield of X-ray emission in different energy bands. During 2021 September 20–25, the Solar Orbiter mission was closer to the Sun (∼0.6 au) and had a moderate separation angle (&lt;40°) from the Sun–Earth line. We analysed multiwavelength emission from ∼200 (mostly weak) flares, commonly observed by the Spectrometer Telescope for Imaging X-rays (STIX), STEREO-A, GOES, and the Solar Dynamics Observatory. We identified strongly nonthermal flares by associating hard X-ray fluence (12–20 keV) and soft X-ray flux (4–10 keV) with the peak soft X-ray flux into the QF factor.We provide STIX light curves and spectrogram data with estimated QF in the dataset for all 203 analysed flares with marked time characteristics (JPEG files). For 20 selected flares, we provide GOES light curves and Differential Emission Measure estimates based on AIA data (JPEG files). The spectral data (spectrum files, spectral response matrices and fitted parameters for thermal and nonthermal components) are provided in FITS format (https://fits.gsfc.nasa.gov/fits_utility.html).</p

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.
