Author of his own fate? The eighteenth-century writings of Ayuba Sulayman Diallo
The life of Ayuba Sulayman Diallo (also known as Job ben Solomon) receives a fresh examination in this article, based primarily on his own writings. The son of an Imam from Bundu in Senegambia, Diallo was enslaved in 1731 and transported to America. He survived to gain his freedom, make his mark in London society, and return to Africa in 1734. This article offers an analysis of documents from the British Library, including items that have not been previously analysed and are here translated into English for the first time. In addition, they bring together what is known of his archive, including the letters he wrote before, during, and after his time in London, the Qur'ans he scribed there, and the scraps and snippets created as he discussed the Arabic language with friends. A close analysis of Diallo's writings reveals new information about his life history; his relationships with the elites in both Bundu and London; his scholarly abilities; and the history of Bundu itself. Diallo used the technology of writing to direct the course of his own life and career, converting a disastrous course of events into favourable opportunities for himself
Introduction et enseignement/apprentissage de l’anglais à l’école primaire au Burkina Faso : représentations sociales et obstacles
Résumé: La réforme curriculaire en cours au Burkina Faso depuis 2013 veut donner plus d’efficacité au système éducatif. Plusieurs innovations ont ainsi vu le jour. Au nombre de celles-ci, il y a l’introduction et l’initiation à l’anglais à l’école primaire, compte tenu de l’importance de cette langue étrangère. Cette innovation suscite la question suivante : quels sont les enjeux de l’introduction de l’enseignement/apprentissage de l’anglais à l’école primaire ? La présente étude a pour objectifs de déterminer les atouts et les obstacles éventuels à l’introduction de l’anglais à l’école primaire, et, de proposer des stratégies pour réussir son enseignement. La méthodologie adoptée a permis d’effectuer des recherches documentaires et des investigations de terrain sur la didactique de l’anglais à l’école primaire. Les résultats des investigations révèlent des entraves liées à l’introduction de la langue anglaise, comme le manque de formation initiale et continue en anglais, ainsi que le manque de matériel et documents didactiques. Des suggestions ont été faites, afin d’en faciliter la réalisation. Il s’agit principalement de la formation et du suivi des enseignants en anglais, et, de la dotation des écoles primaires en matériel et documents didactiques en anglais.

This work is about the roles of Author, Publisher and Bookseller in Book development in
Nigeria. The paper started by delving into the history of Book Publishing in Nigeria after
which it proceeded by defining who an author, a publisher, and a bookseller is and
expatiated on the indispensable roles of these key actors in Nigerian Book Industry and in
the emerging Information Society. Furthermore, the various constraints to book
development were identified while the paper advised on how the Book Industry can be
further promoted in Nigeria. However, the paper concluded and made recommendations
on how the Book sector can help in enhancing scholarship in the country
Preparing a class in the context of Computer Assisted Language Learning: addressing the critical aspect of syllabus design
This article discussed the place of syllabus design in CALL classes. It emphasized that designing a CALL syllabus is a complex process that requires careful consideration of students’ needs, learning objectives, materials and resources, learning activities, and evaluation methods. Through the steps presented, we have suggested a practical step-by-step process for designing a syllabus that is effective, engaging, and relevant to students when it comes to CALL. As a reminder, designing a CALL syllabus is not a one-time process, but rather an ongoing cycle of analysis, planning, and evaluation that can help continuously improve teaching practice.

Tetranuclear copper(II) complex of 2-hydroxy-N,N '-bis[1-(2-hydroxyphenl)ethylidene]propane-1,3-diamine
The title molecular structure, namely, (μ3-acetato)(μ2-acetato)bis(μ3-1,3-bis{[1-(2-oxidophenyl)ethylidene]amino}propan-2-olato)tetracopper(II) monohydrate, [Cu4(C19H19N2O3)2(CH3CO2)2]·H2O, corresponds to a non-symmetric tetranuclear copper complex. The complex exhibits one ligand molecule that connects two copper CuII metal centres via its ethanolato oxygen anion acting in a μ2-mode and one ligand molecule that connects three copper CuII metal centres via its ethanolato oxygen anion acting in a μ3-mode. One bridging acetate group acting in an η1:η1-μ2-mode connects two copper(II) ions while another bridging acetate group connects three copper(II) ions in an η1:-η2-μ3-mode. A chair-like Cu3O3 structure is generated in which the two CuO4N units are connected by one μ2-O ethanolate oxygen atom. These two units are connected respectively to the CuO3N unit via one μ3-O ethanolate oxygen atom and one μ2-O atom from an acetate group. The μ3-O atom also connects one of the CuO4N units and the CuO3N unit to another CuO3N unit, which is out of the chair-like structure. Each of the two pentacoordinated CuII cations has a distorted NO4 square-pyramidal environment. The geometry of each of the two CuNO3 units is best described as a slightly square-planar environment. A series of intramolecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds is observed. In the crystal, the units are connected by intermolecular C—H⋯O and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, thus forming sheets parallel to the ac plan
Synthesis and characterization of the 2-(-(2-(-2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylideneamino)propylimino)methyl)-6-methoxyphenol dimanganese(III) complex containing μ(O,O’)-nitrito-aqua ligands
Single crystal of new nitrito bridged Mn(III) dinuclear compound {[Mn(L)(H2O)](μ-NO2)[Mn(L)(H2O)]}.(ClO4) has been synthesized in the absence of nitrite source. The compound was characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and single crystal X‑ray diffraction. The compound crystallizes in the triclinic system in the space group P‑1 with a = 12.4175(3)Å, b = 13.6360(4) Å, c = 12.8207(5) Å, α = 74.876(3)°, β = 89.064(2)°, γ = 85.361(2)°, V = 2159.39(11) Å3, Z = 9, Dc = 1.489 Mg m-3. Each of the two ligand molecules encapsulates one Mn(III) ion in tetradentate fashion through two phenolate oxygen atoms and two azomethine nitrogen atoms. The two methoxy oxygen atoms of each ligand molecule remain uncoordinated. In the structure, each manganese(III) ion is situated in a N2O4 inner. The environment around each Mn(III) cation is best described as a distorted square pyramidal geometry, in which the equatorial plane is occupied by the atoms from the ligand molecule and the axial positions are occupied by one oxygen atom of a coordinated water molecule and one nitrito oxygen atom. The two Mn(III) ions are bridged though one μ1,3-nitrito group. Numerous intermolecular hydrogen bonds, established between water molecules as donors and phenoxo or methoxy oxygen atoms as acceptors, connect the dinuclear units into three-dimensional network
