Modelling And Analysis Of Optical Packet Switched Networks In Mesh Topology

    No full text
In this work we develop a performance evaluation for Optical Packet Switching Network (OPSN) Architecture and Optimized Mesh Topology with (OMT) comprising 2x2 optical bufferless nodes configuration. The analysis is carried out with analytic modeling and simulation methods using as basis for comparison the Manhattan Street topology with 16 nodes (MS-16). This work comes to validate our simulation methods, the search for optimized topologies, and the analytic modeling comes to clarify some important conceptual aspects of packet switched network operation. Besides the performance analysis, we have conducted an estimate of Packet Delay based on average number of hops, which contributes to QoS evaluation. © 2006 SBrT.632636Bonani, L.H., Rudge Barbosa, F., Moschim, E., Fully Optimized Mesh Topologies for Optical Packet Switching Architecture Networks (2006) Proceeding of the 13th International. Influence Of Topological Connectivity For Transport In Optical Networks With Amplified Photonic Switches

The present work analyzes the performance of optical networks with architecture based on mesh topology and photonic switching. We describe the analytical calculus based on theory concepts to estimate the standard performance and results of computer simulation to validate our expectations. The main adopted parameters for this analysis are the packet loss fraction (PLF) and average number of hop (ANH). We observe that the combination of these elements leads to a consistent account of performance, in terms of network traffic and packet delivery for optical packet and burst switching (OPS/OBS) metropolitan networks. Results show that combination of highly connected mesh topologies having an ingress e-buffer present high efficiency and throughput, with very low packet loss and low-latency, ensuring fast data delivery to the final receiver. © 2014 IEEE.Develder, C., Stavdas, A., Neri, F., Solé-Pareta, J., Sauze, J., Demeester, P., Benchmarking and viability assessment of optical packet switching for metro networks (2004) J. In this paper we study the behavior of traffic in Metropolitan Optical Packet Switching Networks, using computer modeling and simulations. We analyze network performance and the impact of node failure compared with the impact of link failure and normal operation. Mesh topologies are chosen with node configurations (2x2, 3x3, and 4x4, input-output) and parameters packet loss fraction and average number of hops are adopted for performance metrics. We observe that node failure is only slightly more damaging than the more loaded link failures we have previously considered. © 2011 IEEE.714718Develder, C., Stavdas, A., Neri, F., Solé-Pareta, J., Le Sauze, N., Demeester, P., Benchmarking and Viability Assessment of Optical Packet Switching for Metro Networks (2004) J. Future-proof Photonic Switched Optical Networks For Metropolitan Access

Photonic Switching for traffic optimization in Metropolitan Access Optical Networks using technologies of optical packet/burst switching (OPS/OBS) seems to be a future-proof solution considering high-capacity and the highly variable traffic in these networks. In this study we propose and analyze through computer modeling and simulations network performance of OPS/OBS distributed switching networks and the impact of link failure when electronic buffering at ingress (client input) to optical network is also included. Mesh and ring topologies are chosen as more suitable topologies and the parameters packet loss fraction and average number of hops are adopted for performance metrics. Minimum electronic buffering is included at node ingress (client side) to improve lossless access to the optical layer, yielding high throughput and low latency. It is further observed that optical buffering is not necessary for adequate network performance. © 2012 IEEE.IEEE Photonics Society,IEEE Wuhan Section,Optics and Photonics Society of Singapore,Wuhan University,Beijing Jiaotong UniversityDevelder, C., Stavdas, A., Neri, F., Solé-Pareta, J., Le Sauze, N., Demeester, P., Benchmarking and Viability Assessment of Optical Packet Switching for Metro Networks (2004) J. Optical Packet Switching Access Networks Using Time And Space Contention Resolution Schemes

    No full text
Optical packet switching offers the possibility of increased granularity and more effective use of bandwidth in large capacity systems, on a scale of Tb/s. The natural integration of optical packet switching in photonic technology opens up the possibility of packet switching in transparent optical channels, where the packets remain from end-to-end in the optical domain, without the necessity of optoelectronic conversion. Therefore, the optical switching must be robust enough in order to provide conditions to solve the contention between optical packets in access networks, where the traffic is less aggregated. This work presents alternative schemes of contention resolution between optical packets to be used in access networks, without using the already established, but more expensive, wavelength conversion of WDM systems. © Springer-Verlag 2004.3124272281Bannister, J., Touch, J., Willner, A., Suryaputra, S., How many wavelengths do we really need? Performance Evaluation Of Advanced Wdm Networks With Optical Codes And Photonic Switching

We propose and evaluate performance of an innovative hybrid technology using wavelength and optical code division multiplexing (WDM/OCDM) for optical burst switching (OBS) advanced WDM networks. An architecture for the edge routers with fast optical circuit switching and virtual optical code/wavelength paths (VOCP/VWP) is described. We consider burst blocking probability (BBP) as a function of traffic load and various delays. Simulation results indicate that increasing the number of optical codes per wavelength considerably decreases BBP and latency, and also increases network throughput. © 2007 IEEE.187190Jue, J.P., Vokkarane, V.M., (2005) Optical Burst Switched Networks, Springer Science, , Boston, cBattestilli, T., Perros, H., An Introduction to Optical Burst Switching, IEEE (2003) Optical Comm, pp. 510-515Duser, M., Beyvel, P., Analysis of Dynamically Wavelength-Routed OBS Network Architecture (2002) J. Improved Method For Evaluation Of Network Throughput And Protection In Future Optically Switched Metropolitan Networks

In this work we investigate the performance of optical packet/burst switched (OPS/OBS) architectures connected as mesh and as ring topologies, for future optical metropolitan networks. Network throughput and protection to link failure under uniform traffic distribution for all nodes is investigated in order to evaluate the sensitivity of OPS/OBSN performance. Our results are based on analysis of simulations and comparison between various mesh (Manhattan St. type) and ring topologies. We also consider the detailed traffic distributions over the network links and the impact caused by failure of more or less loaded links, thus providing a way to select links that require protection.. © 2008 IEEE.243247IARIAYoo, S.J., Optical Packet and Burst Switching Technologies for the Future Photonic Internet (2006) J. A recent proposal suggests that four-wave mixing may be used to generate quaternary amplitude optical packets. We consider the reception of these packets and determine the optimal power level spacing that minimizes the bit error rate under the dominance of signal dependent noise. Results indicate a sensitivity of -23 dBm for a 12.5 GBaud optical packet. ©2009IEEE.4246Ghani, N., Lambda-labeling: A Framework for IP-over-WDM using MPLS (2000) Opt. Optical Switches For Advanced Photonic Networks

    No full text
In this work we present optical switches based on acousto-optical (AO) and semiconductor amplifier (SOA) devices, implemented in photonic switching optical nodes. Two basic situations are highlighted. One, a fully operational optical packet/burst switching (OPS/OBS) distributed control optical node is presented, using AO switches, with complete input-to-output switching time of ∼2μs, independent of packet/burst length. The other, a practical application for a centralized control situation is also presented, involving SOA devices, which have better performance and faster switching, with overall switching times of less than 200ns. Detailed operation and other applications are also considered. ©2009IEEE.678681Blumenthal, D.J., Optical signal processing for Optical Packet Switching Networks (2003) IEEE Optical Communic., p. 523. , FebScott Hinton, H., Erickson, J.R., Cloonan, T.J., Tooley, F.A.P., McCormick, F.B., (2000) An Introduction to Photonic Switching Fabrics (Applications of Communications Theory), , 2nd.
