Franchignoni F, Orlandini D, Ferriero G, Moscato TA. Reliability, validity, and responsiveness of the Locomotor Capabilities Index in adults with lower-limb amputation undergoing prosthetic training. Arch Phys Med Rehabil 2004;85:743-8. Objective To assess the reliability, validity, and responsiveness of both the standard and revised Locomotor Capabilities Index (LCI) in people with lower-limb amputation who undergo prosthetic training. Design Reliability and validity study. Setting Two freestanding rehabilitation centers. Participants Fifty inpatients with a recent unilateral lower-limb amputation. Interventions Not applicable. Main outcome measures The standard LCI and a new version with a 5-level ordinal scale (LCI-5) were tested for internal consistency, test-retest reliability, ceiling effect, and effect size. The construct validity of both versions was analyzed by correlation with the Rivermead Mobility Index, a timed walking test, and the FIM instrument. Results The Cronbach α of both LCI versions was .95. The item-to-total correlations (Spearman ρ) ranged from .50 to .87 (P<.0001 for all). The percent agreement and κ values for the item scores ranged, respectively, from 78.4% to 100% and .58 to 1.00 in the LCI, and from 75.7% to 97.3% and .54 to .96 in the LCI-5. The intraclass correlation coefficient (model 2,1) for the total scores was .98 for both versions; the Bland-Altman plot revealed no systematic trend for either version. Both the LCI and LCI-5 correlated with all criterion measures (ρ range, .61-.76), with the LCI-5 showing a larger effect size during the rehabilitation period and a lower ceiling effect. Patients with transtibial amputation were more independent in performing activities than were those with transfemoral amputation; their locomotor capability negatively correlated with age. Conclusions Both the LCI and LCI-5 captured the global locomotor ability of people with lower-limb amputation during prosthetic training. The new LCI-5 presents similar and sometimes better psychometric properties than the standard LCI

Tu Tu Tu - Ta Ta

Tu tu tu - Ta ta is a five-sound pattern produced by the Afro-Latin instrument known as clave. The clave serves as a fundamental rhythmic cell, integral to every Afro-Latin and Latin American traditional genre. This pattern forms the foundation and structure of the music, guiding the arrangement and direction of all other instruments. In this project, the author metaphorically uses tu tu tu - ta ta to represent the concept of home, symbolizing the key to one\u27s inner roots and the map to one\u27s own heart. Through this metaphor, tu tu tu - ta ta is explored as the sound of home, encapsulating the essence of belonging and identity.https://remix.berklee.edu/graduate-studies-cmat/1105/thumbnail.jp

ISDN Terminal Adaptor for circuit switched data (TA-csd)

    No full text
Applied SciencesElectrotechniekAutomatische Verkeerssysteme

Despite the fact that he is partly known with his works he performed in the field of literary history, the author also has a spirit of poesy which needs to be studied in detail.Although Sadeddin Nüzhet entered the literary life with poems he wrote in his student years, later he got further away from this genre and devoted himself to scientific research. Despite this, his poems which were published in newspapers and magazines such as Milli Mecmua, Yeni Fikir, Kervan and he wrote with syllable and syllablemetrics are works of art showing that his literary character is also strong. Especially his gazels he created under the influence of divan poetry provided to be accepted him as one of the last representatives of tradition. In this works, Sadeddin Nüzhet s life was studied as part of the identity of his sufi, composer, compiler, literary historians; his poetidentity and his poems are also emphasized. After giving general information about his works, the poems that were determined were examined as form and content, presented to the reader as a whole at the end of the work. Thus, by pointing to a different as pect of Sadeddin Nüzhet, who can not see the value he deserves in the literary community, his work has been tried to be shown in terms of the divan poetry tradition

The Questions of Hermeneutic TA: Towards a Toolbox

    No full text
The present chapter begins by exploring whether the project of a hermeneutic technology assessment (TA) squares well with some of TA's most fundamental presuppositions and commitments including, for instance, to provide assessments that are relevant for policymakers and can guide the shaping of emerging technologies in a responsible manner. If – as will be shown – the hermeneutic idea can be coherently established within TA, we must ask what does an understanding of emerging technologies in their guise as futuristic narratives entail? Which questions do we have to ask, to gain a better understanding of future technologies in their manifold present representations? The present chapter approaches these questions by examining the cases of nanotechnology and “Slaughterbots.” This will result in a demarcation of various dimensions and a list of questions about the origins and guise of those narratives that can be posed at other narratives of this sort. Taken together, this chapter makes some major steps towards a toolkit for applying the hermeneutic research lens to various socio-technical visions and narratives.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Ethics & Philosophy of Technolog

Hybrid test bench for evaluation of any device related to mechanical cardiac assistance

    No full text
Hydraulic mock circulatory systems have low flexibility to allow tests of different cardiovascular devices and low precision when a reference model must be reproduced. In this paper a new bench is described. It combines the computer model of the environment in which the device will operate and the electro-hydraulic interfaces by which device and computer are connected. A models library provided with basic functions allows implementing many layouts of the bench, which in turn depend both on the device properties and the desired experiment. In case of an apical LVAD evaluation, the bench can reproduce right and left ventricles, pulmonary and systemic circulations, inlet and outlet LVAD cannulas. An interface forces the instantaneous calculated flow at the VAD input and feeds back the measured pressure to the computer; another interface works in a similar -but complementary- way at the VAD output. The paper focuses on the operating principle of the electro hydraulic interfaces which represent a relevant component of the bench, on the RT-Linux-based software architecture, on the models of the basic elements of the bench. A patent is under preparation. At the moment, only a portion of the bench has been developed. It consists of a piston-cylinder mechanism, which mimics the elastance-based mechanism of a natural ventricle, and a hydraulic circuit representing the arterial load according to a modified windkessel model and the venous return according to the Guyton's model. The pump is driven by a real-time simulation of the cardiovascular system. This preliminary layout allowed testing the piston-cylinder mechanism, its control, and the software. This electro-hydraulic interface has been used to reproduce a pulsatile pump working in different modes. The hybrid model approach can support the development of new cardiac assist devices from their computer model to their manufacture.<br/

TA 4-SCC versus CEA Sensitivity for Lung Cancer

    No full text
The sensitivity of a new tumor marker, TA 4-SCC, for lung tumors is examined and compared with the performance of the already established CEA. TA 4-SCC sensitivity is only moderate (30 %), and it presents no significant differences among the various histologic types of lung cancer. In addition, unlike CEA, TA 4-SCC is present in large amounts in the serum of many stage I and II patients. In fact, its sensitivity in still curatively operable tumors reaches 30 % compared to 10 % with CEA.</jats:p

Synthesis and oxidation behaviour of Ta-Al-C MAX phases

    No full text
MAX-phase materials, a class of ternary carbides and nitrides that combine favorable properties of metals (conductivity and toughness) and ceramics (high temperature strength) have been shown to autonomously heal micro-cracks by high temperature oxidation. The investigation of Ta and Al containing MAX phases (Ta2AlC & Ta4AlC3) could render self-healing materials at lower temperatures. Mixed (Ta2AlC and Ta4AlC3) and pure dense bulk Ta2AlC MAX phase was synthesized by spark plasma sintering (SPS) of elemental powders. The oxidation reactions of Ta-Al-C MAX phase powders were studied with differential thermal analysis (DTA). The oxidation kinetics of dense bulk Ta-Al-C MAX phase was studied by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The microstructure and composition of the MAX phase materials and its oxides was characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray microanalysis with electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Linear oxidation kinetics, inward oxide growth and formation of mainly porous Ta-oxides were observed for isothermal oxidation of dense bulk Ta2AlC and mixed MAX phase. Based on the results obtained in this work, the oxides scales formed in the 600 – 800 °C temperature range are believed to consist of various metastable and/or amorphous oxides. Full oxidation of the MAX phase above 900 °C results in the formation of Ta2O5 and ternary TaAlO4. It was found that TaAl-C MAX phases cannot self-heal microcracks by formation of a protective oxide scale at elevated temperatures.Mechanical, Maritime and Materials EngineeringMaterial Science and Engineerin
